Without the scarcity they likely wouldn't have gotten the attention that's now caused everyone to want one. I'm sure they'll pump out more before Christmas now that there's a huge market.
Yup, exactly. Basic economics... supply and demand. Low supply, high demand. High supply, low demand. The fervor being whipped up means that they are going to be snapped up the second they hit the shelves rather than just sitting there looking rather forlorn for weeks.
I can't remember the numbers they said they were going to crank out before Christmas (this was two weeks ago, I've slept many times since then!) but it was approximately a metric buttload... they think a lot of people will be able to get one.

and in my experience hamsters BITE! these cant bite!
Ha! Finally someone says they bite! People tell me they dont.... ya whatever I've had like 3 hamsters and when they are new they sure as heck bite!

LOL, I don't know where you guys live but they don't seem to be that big of a fad here. I've seen them in the mall in the display halls and no one is cramming to get them...I guess only normal people live in So Cal :rofl1::rofl1: ......not!

Hmmm...

Interesting.

It seems like something I would've really, really liked as a kid. I went through a hamster phase when I was 5, and at the time it was difficult to find any hamster toys.

:lol-sign: @ the furby.

I am glad that maybe people won't get real hamsters and get rid of them like they are 'disposable pets'. I thought they were "interactive" like the furby, but they don't seem to be?

I don't understand getting into a fight at a store over a $10 cat toy :rofl1:

What I don't get is that if it's such a hot toy, why are the supplies so limited?
Because they are made by a small company in the mid-west with a whopping 16 employees. It has nothing to do with marketing, and everything to do with them not realizing they had the next big thing on their hands until the last minute!

I'll be honest...there is a Zhu Zhu pet sitting a few feet from me, along with the car, the hamster wheel, the slide and...something else. I forget what.

My mother is like the Michael Jordan of shopping, so when a woman I work with mentioned her daughter wanted one for Christmas, I told my mom to keep an eye out for them. She found them within about 15 minutes .. Only after I gave them to the very grateful woman did we realize what a huge deal these things were.

Which only inspired my mother to look for more. She picked up the additional pieces mentioned above for my brother's son. They are sort of cute, and if they weren't so hard to find right now, I'd buy one just to play with it. I think Meg would love them as well!

:rofl1::lol-sign: omg I about died when I read that.

someone bought me a furby and it annoyed the heck out of me... mine lived in a dresser drawer because I was afraid if it saw light it would talk... the talking really really annoyed me... I liked nice quiet toys.

I managed to snag 5 for nieces. If you really want one, keep a browser window open to zoolert.com. It lets you know when the big toy places get them in at regular prices (ToysRUs, Amazon, Target).

I never had a furby either, all by friends did though. Mum didn't like them so she never got me one.

I've never heard of these hamsters until now and i've gotta say...

I REALLY want one! hahaha they make me smile kinda like when tamagotchi pets came back (i bought like 4 of those when they came back a couple years ago) :)
