I recently realized when I'm interacting with my dogs I tend to call them their most commonly used nickname more often than their actual name, especially when playing.
They both have lots of nicknames, but I use one more than the others. I call Millie "Mimi" (mee-mee, emphasis on second syllable) and Fable, "Fabelina" lol.
They know their given names and I didn't really start to think about it until someone thought Millie's name was Mimi.

Am I the only one who uses a particular nickname so often?

Summit is usually just "Bud". I just tend to call most males that for some reason.

Kili is often Baby, BeBe, Puppy Willow, Dumb Dumb Face, Doofus, Dumbass.... Lol.

Meg is definitely Smeggles more often than anything else.

Gusto is ToTO! quite a bit, but probably still Gusto more than anything.

Both have a laundry list of nicknames, some more logical than others.

Gambit responds well to Das Coy.

Shaman is currently coming to Sir Possum Mouth of Fungus, but maybe I should quit with that one.

Most of the time, I think I do call Morgan by his given name.

He does have a few nicknames, the most commonly used being "Diggy". If any of his nicknames rival his given name in terms of frequency... it would be that one.

I rarely call Watson by his given name. His most common nicknames are Wortle, Monkey, Buddy, and Stinky. I will also add "Bear" as a suffix to any of those. I've had people think his name was Buddy before.

Once at a training class I said "Come on you wild child" and someone standing nearby said "That's a cute name". I guess she thought his name was Wild Child? It would be appropriate.

I call him Crosserton, Cross or Crossy more than Crossbone. Sometimes Boner.

We were at a dog event and someone wrote Crossbone's name on the whiteboard as Cross and Ken went over and corrected her. He likes his full name--he doesn't like people to call him shortened versions or add an "s" on the end. Lol I'm not too picky.

Bentley is usually called Benny Bug or just Bug. Harley is my LiLi Bear or Little Bear. I almost always call them by their nicknames instead of their full names.

Not at all. A lot of times I'm saying "Read, Monkey?" or "Ready, Sh*thead?" when we're getting set up to work. Cracked our Nosework instructor up when she heard "Sh*thead" last week.

I probably use nicknames more than their real names. Although most of their nicknames are some at least semi-recognizable variation of their names.

DH has a whole list of nicknames for Harlow. I normally call her babydog, squishy face, or buttnub. Rider is called Little Man quite frequently. Sometimes Riderman Jones as well.

All are variations of their actual name. I think Gabby has the most because she can hear... :rofl1:

Gabbo
Gabberuski
Gabbalicious
Gabzou
Pumpkin +/- Pie
Girlfriend

And lots of variations of that. Sometimes I wonder how she actually knows her name, haha.

I've had a lot of strangers think Boone's name is Bubba because I call him that just as much as, if not more than, his actual name.

Tempie and Raja are usually Temp and Raj, so pretty close to the real name, though everyone thinks I'm saying Rush.

I think the only one that really goes by their name is Murphy. Mu is Mamu, Mumu, OY, and small black dog. Tipper is McGee, Monster, orange thing, barky butt, and Tipper SHUT UP.

And we call Falon "the baby" more than Falon. Or Zuzu. I like nicknames.

Traveler pretty much just get's called Traveler. Sometimes I'll say Trav but mostly he just get's called his name.

Didgeridoo, well she gets called Didgie a lot though more so online than in person, I call her Didgeridoo all the time. Ridgy Didgie, DidgieDoo and half the time I just go around saying "DidgeriDOO, where are YOU"

"I'm gonna kill you!" is also a nickname they both have.

Tempie and Raja are usually Temp and Raj, so pretty close to the real name, though everyone thinks I'm saying Rush.
And she would get called Temporary if she was ever bad, but since she's perfect it never happens.

Gwen gets called Bean a lot. Or Jelly Bean. And Pretty Pretty Princess for bath time.

Otherwise it's variations of her name. Gwenie, Gweners.
