Your Dog/s Bedtime/Wakeup Time

Night Owl? Morning Bird? What is your dog's sleep schedule like?

It's 10:40 pm where I'm at, and I'm in the dining room while Leo has gone by himself to my room to sleep in his dog bed. This is the only time of day that he will voluntarily go into and stay in a different room from me. He will generally start sleeping pretty soundly by 9pm just whereever I am at, but after 10pm he'll take himself to our room.

During the night, he sleeps pretty soundly or at least doesn't move around much when/if he is awake. I am a super light sleeper so he'll sometimes wake me by licking himself, but he stops when I say his name.

In the mornings, he will be up and staring at me by around 6:30am (granted 5 days a week by alarm goes off at 6am), but will happily continue sleeping if allowed onto the bed to curl up next to me. He starts getting antsy to go outside by around 8:30am, but I also rarely sleep longer than that anyways.

He is pretty chipper about waking up at pretty much anytime. When I hiked Mt. Whitney with him, we woke up at 1am (went to bed at 7pm) and he was completely happy to get up. Definitely not a grouch about waking up.

Bedtime: About two hours before I go to bed, the boys are passed out in a pile on the futon.

Wake-up Time: Whenever Glitch starts ringing the potty bell and I drag myself down from the loft looking like the bride of Frankenstein after a kegger. Ok, sometimes I just lay there and hope he goes back to sleep. Then I climb back up into bed.

2nd Wake-up Time: About 3 hours later, when I'm ready to get up. Dogs are generally again asleep

Rara is Leo. She has a self-designated curfew of around 12am when she will just go upstairs by herself to lie down in her bed, whether we're still downstairs or not. She'll sometimes wait for us to an extent, before she still gives up and goes up anyway.

Lancer is a velcro lump and will wait for me downstairs no matter how long it takes, even if he's dead asleep and I'm just being a night owl until 3am.

Lancer and Rara both think that licking my face and making weird dog noises at 7:30am~8am every morning is necessary, until I actually get mad and shoo them away.

Sam just kinda hangs out and sleeps unless were doing something. He'll follow me from room to room if I call him, otherwise he hangs out wherever the most people are currently. After about nine he doesn't want to leave my room anymore if that's where we are and he puts himself in his crate.

Wilson is the exact opposite. He's not capable of being in a different room from me if there isn't a door between (not SA, just very velcro). He goes to sleep when I tell him it's time to go to sleep, otherwise he's pretty busy. He's also ready to get up and go any time of the morning, but he's pretty good about not bugging me until he notices that I'm actually awake. I usually let them out at five in the morning and feed them, then I go back to sleep if I don't have school or work, and they're both pretty good about going and laying back down and being quiet until I actually wake up.

We always joke that Crossbone and my husband are the same---they go to bed early and are definitely morning "people". Pox and I are the opposite.

Crossbone would like to go to bed between 10-11pm, but we now keep our door closed so he'll bark and spin in circles when he thinks it's time. We have a terrible habit of all falling asleep on the couch, which reeeeally annoys Crossbone. If he finds a comfy spot to sleep on the couch, he'll sleep there until 1-2am until he starts barking in our face to move to bed.

Pox is the night owl/late sleeper. Ever since he was a wee puppy, his breeder would send me videos of him still up exploring while everyone else was sleeping. He won't ever go to bed on his own.

There are mornings where we go on our 4 mile walk and Ken jumps up at the first alarm and whispers to Crossbone that we're going and he jumps up super excitedly. Pox and I bury deeper in the blankets, groaning.

Unless there's a bunch of people over Hank will put himself to bed around 10-10:30. They all wake up on the dot at 5:30 am when my alarm goes off but on the weekends will let me sleep till it gets light. then they get antsy.

The dogs go to bed when we go to bed....so, around 9pm. If for whatever reason we stay up really late, they tend to fall asleep around 11ish.

They get up when we do in the mornings, too. Abrams is wide eyed and bushy tailed anytime after 4am - he gets up when Michael does at 5am. Cynder is more than happy to sleep in later - she's normally ready to get up by 8am, but gets up during the week at 6:30am when I kick her outside. When we sleep in on the weekends, Abrams is MORE than ready to go outside by 7:30-8a.

Juno pretty much always sleeps unless we're doing something. She'll go to her bed in my bedroom usually after dinner which is anywhere from 5-7pm. She'd be up and at em if I wanted her to be but yeah she's content to sleep.

Sawyer is usually down by 10-11pm. Can be as early as 8pm if we had a busy day. He'll either go in his crate or just lay on the bed in the living room.

Both of them would probably like to wake up early but they are fine waiting till I get up. That can be as early as 5:30am or as late as 11am.

Chloe is 12.5 yrs old, and pretty much sleeps all the time.

Louis (16 months), is asleep for the night around 9pm. He wakes in the morning whenever I get out of bed. Usually 7am, and he hangs out until I head downstairs (7:30am). This morning I slept until 9am, and so did he. He has been this way since we got him at 10 weeks.

Nola sleeps when I sleep and is up when I'm up. No matter if it's bed at 10pm or 3am, up at 6am or up at 930am, she's ready to go. So long as she's let out to potty before sleep, she won't wake me up unless she's sick.

Pike is early to bed, early to rise, ugh. He's gotten a bit better at it, but he's definitely my early bird. He's asleep for the night by 8pm.

Livvy goes to sleep early (about like Pike), and will happily sleep until 9-10. She's lazy as hell.

Roxie is more like Nola, though she's okay to sleep more if we're up before 730am.

Mostly what this thread is teaching me is that I'm a loser who is asleep for 4 hours or more before some of you turn in!

My dogs go to bed when I do and get up when I do, although obviously they sleep on and off during the day and evening as well. We are generally in bed by 9:30 or 10 at the latest. My workday alarm goes off at 5:25, and they will get up to go out, eat, and then go back to sleep for another hour or two after I leave until the rest of the house is up.

On weekends where I can sleep in, Gusto generally awakes around 6:30 or so, although he will usually curl up and go back to sleep after a little cuddle, while I watch TV or mess with my phone until 7 or so. He has saved me from being (too) late to work a few times when I've turned my alarm off and fallen back asleep. It would be a rare day he will stay in bed past 7:30. I suspect Meg would stay in bed much later if I did, but she gets up when I do.

Dragging them out of bed at 2:30 or 3 am to leave for agility trials essentially requires a crowbar.

With the time change, DH and I are often in bed by 8:30 and asleep by 9:30. Which gives us a full 8 hours of sleep before getting up in the mornings (or, sometimes 6 hours of sleep if I'm having a rough night).

If I get up in the middle of the night (aka, before 4am) to pee or grab an icepack for my back, they (including the cats!) don't even move. Haha I get blearly looks like "What the heck, mom, don't you know what time it is?!" and then they go back to bed.

Crystal is asleep ~75 percent of the day, haha. She's only awake if we're actively doing something like training or playing. She'll usually sleep where we are in the living room until around 9 or 10 pm, and that's when she'll head upstairs. She won't wake up/come downstairs until like 8 am, even if I've woken up at 5 am. If I'm sleeping in during the weekend, she'll lick my face to wake up around 9 or 10 am.

AFAIK none of the dogs has a preferred bed or wake up time. They might be snoozing in the evening, but are wide awake when I move.

I usually go to bed around 11p and they are happy to go out for a potty break and then take over dog beds in the hall outside our room right before I hit the hay. They know better than to wake me up in the morning, so we sleep until whenever I need to get up and then everyone is raring to go, whether it's 4:45a or 10a.

When Squash was wee, I used to put him and Maisy upstairs to bed around 9pm so I could have a few hours of peace in the evenings. They always got/get a bedtime stuffed Kong. When Toast was wee I started doing the same thing with him. So now around 9 pm or so, Squash and Toast both start to get antsy for bedtime. Squash especially can become quite insistent. It is not good enough to snooze downstairs - there is no bedtime Kong downstairs.

If I ignore them, they will eventually just lay down somewhere and sleep, but since Maisy and Pip can snooze downstairs happily until I actually go to bed it's actually some nice quiet time to spend with them after the youngsters are tucked into bed.

Usually they will get up whenever I get up, but if I'm not up by 7 or 730 Toast will usually start getting antsy.

Both boys usually fall asleep on the couch with us around 8 or 9pm, as long as they've been walked and fed. Henry wants to be touching one of us, and Rhys wants to be cuddled in someone's arms or lap. They sleep until we go to bed, and then I put them to bed in their respective spots. Rhys gladly goes into his crate for a cookie, and Henry waits for me to go into our bedroom and fluff his blankets on his bed for him. Then they're both out until we get up. During the workweek, Roy gets up before I do, and as soon as he gets in the shower, Henry gets up in bed with me.

Mornings they'll sleep until whenever. Very flexible doggies.

It's highly dependent on my schedule and Jackson pretty much works around whatever fine. If I let him out late, he can hold it later in morning naturally. So yeah sometimes if I let him out for last potty break around 9pm, he will sleep until at least 9am. Generally I'd say overnight he's good for 12 hours.

But in general, he is not an early riser. He doesn't need to be taken out right away. He usually stays in bed after I get up, go to the bathroom, brush teeth, etc, and doesn't want to move. On my off days when I can sleep in (which generally isn't past 9 or 930 these days), my mom comes in my room to grab Lola and take her out around 8:15 to get my little sister on the bus (sister is in 2nd grade, likes her doggy to be out there with her) and Jax just stays in bed with me lol.

There are some days he doesn't go out for the first time until 1030-11am. But that's also usually with being let out around 1130pm-midnight.

So yeah he will gladly sleep in on almost all occasions.

Mine sleep most of the time that I am home with them, and probably when I am not. But they just go to bed when I do and wake up when I do. Doesn't matter if bed time is 9pm or midnight, or if we get up at 5am or 10am. They'll all sleep for as long as I want to, be it 5 hours or 12. When we do get up in the morning they're ready to begin their day immediately, because they're always super excited for breakfast. And then after breakfast, they follow me around the house or have another nap haha. They're very easy to live with in that regard.

Hugo is a pretty good sleeper. He'll put himself to bed at about 10pm even if we're still up. He might be asleep at 8 but he'll stay in the living room with us until about 10. Then he'll take off for our bed. He wants to wake up at about 5:30 to go to the bathroom but then he'll come back to bad for awhile.

The funny thing about him is that he'll wake up ready to do whatever we want at whatever time. Once we got up to start packing and leave on vacation at 3am and he jumped up ready to do anything.
