Tallulah does that, Foxy :)

Heheh . . . maybe that's the reason so many breeds with nekkid bellies have such a high tuck -- it developed from sucking it up to keep it off of the ground

LOL foxy.. though that would likely get you E'd in obed. And cold or wet tables in agility are problematic. There was this manchester terrier (soo cute) who had a very nekkid belly. He had many issues with downing on less than soft or warm things.

A toy poodle. Love the breed, want one badly any way, and when I do get one I do plan on agility and/or rally-o with it.

The alternative would be, don't laugh, a basset hound. Can you imagine how awesome it would look to see a basset hound doing agility? Strider's OB trainer did it, that dog wasn't fast, but she was VERY accurate. :)
I'll have to get a video if I can of Sophie, the basset in our agility club. Darn dog does better then most, knows more fun tricks then most as well, smart as a whip. totaly blows my mind as when I think of bassest I think "Lazy, slow and stubborn" she is opposite lol.

That is a really good description. My JRTs are not busy at all. Even Kat (who is crazy) is not busy. They are hard, and tenacious. The whippets can be busy, you are right its a whole different energy.

(Dekka lies around and sleeps 99% of the time)
I wish mine slept most the time, lol! We have some sort of 5 way wrestling match going on in my floor at the moment. Rose is pretty low key though most the time.

I love my cousin's JRT so much, she's a neat neat little dog. She's also the only well bred Jack I've ever seen. If all well bred JRTs are like her, then there's definitely one in my future most likely.

I so wish more of us athletic-basset-owners existed so more people could see this side of them... Daisy is the opposite of lazy and stubborn... tho at 10 she's starting to slow, lol

A Mudi is a Awsome "small" agility dog.

How do you define small? Mudi's are ALOT of dog, energy wise though

At my old dog park, there was a basset (I think named Daisy as well) that was the most energetic dog I think I'd ever met. Her owner would let her out and it would be a non-stop hour long session of zoomies. She would just be FLYING. Obviously she was quite trim; I loved watching her run!

I must say, now that I have two Paps, I am noticing that a lot too. They are just ALWAYS on the go.

Travis and Riley will only start settling down at around 9.30. It is tiring just being in a room with them. I don't know how you do it with 5!!!

Lots of breeds would be great. Personally, I'd be inclined to pick a miniature Poodle...quick to learn, agile, zippy and apparently, very willing. If I ever get another dog, it will be a Poodle or perhaps another Chi. Love those guys too!

I will definitely agree that corgis are medium dogs with their legs hacked off :p
I will also agree that they can make awesome sporting dogs!

Wow. This thread is actually making me think that I may not want a pap, and may want a basset! Didn't expect that :lol-sign: I like a dog that is active but not busy in the sense that it is being used here. I really need to start going out and actually spending time with these breeds...

Q for people with athletic bassets. Is it more about finding lines/individual dog that is athletic, or do you think most would be athletic but people just tend to assume they aren't so they just act lazy out of boredom?

Sorry for trying to derail the thread a bit!

Desensitization, I think! :lol-sign:

Get a Rose lol. Rose is so good. She often just looks at me with these eyes that are like 'Why do we have these other four loons?'

Yesterday I played about an hour of ball with them. A while later, Mia brought me a ball and put it down next to me. Then she went in the corner of the room and crouched down, waiting for me to throw it. I didn't because I was busy. She started slamming her feet on the ground and almost chirping. Then I'd look back at her and she'd crouch down into her ready position. I'd ignore her. Eventually she started shrieking at me. It's her go to when she's frustrated.

The others aren't nearly so bad, but Nard, Mia, and Beau together basically ends up in a never ending game of wrestling. Summer is pretty lazy though, as is Rose. Rose is very chill and sane though and Summer is very in your face and kind of crazy. They're all (minus Rose) about 10x more in your face than my shelties were.

Izzie must be part Papillon... That's EXACTLY what she does plus kicking her feet back. However she also plays "keep away" when she gets the ball and whines and and fusses that i'm not throwing it for her but she'd not giving it up.

*sigh* I own a busy pug... possibly the only one in the world.

I'm sure some Bassets are more active by nature and the owners restrict their activity based on their expectations, but my aunt's Basset was lazy all by himself. She would try to take him for walks and he would plant himself on the ground and refuse to move before they even got past the curb. He spent most of his life on the couch. Very cute dog, but not much of an exercise buddy. :p
It was very nice to meet an energetic, fit basset for the first time a few years ago. She was a cool dog.

I also am a huge Chihuahua lover. I'd consider one for a small dog for sure.

I have seen that with a lot of bassets, lol. Most I see are overweight though, maybe that has something to do with it? If I got a basset it would be from a rescue though, so I would have a lot better change of getting what I wanted. I love seeing bassets with waists! I often wonder if they just haven't filled out yet though. I don't really know all that much about the breed.

Ive met one active Basset and he was a hoot. He was on the go but some how mantained the Bassest mellowness. All the others were couch cushions. So it just depends on the dog I suppose
