RD made me think. If your dog could lead a more happier life with someone else, would you give him or her up? Pepe I could give up. Since he's friendly overall with anybody and would adapt easily. Didi is another story. She doesn't warm up to a lot of people. And is miserable without me. I went on vacation for 2 months and all she did was hide under the bed the whole time I was gone :( She'll probably have a harder time adapting.

Well, I've done it, but I wasn't as attached to that dog than I am with the boys. Hopefully we will never have to though...

I don't know.

If it was in Bodhi's best interest, probably, but it would kill me to do it.

We have had to give up dogs and other pets in the past due to divorce or other problems to where we knew it was in the best interest of the animals to go to a different home.

So I can't say I would never give up Disney (Tucker isn't mine he is my moms and Dozer is my dads so really I have no say in those 2). I really really really would try my hardest and work every option before I got to that point. But if it came down to his quality of life wasent so great with me and I knew he could be happier with someone else I would give him up for his own sake. It would be a last resort but I know if he wasent happy with me I would want him to be happy with someone else if he could be. Or if I couldn't afford to take care of him the way he should I knew someone who could yes I would give him up.

It doesent mean I love him any less if anything it shows how deeply I do love him.

There is no way I could ever give up Andy. I have given at JRT away though. I rescued him as a puppy and had the intention of keeping him, but I just couldn't stand the energy lol. Plus he was incredibly stubborn and even aggressive at times. He is now living with a great couple who go hiking every weekend. It was still hard to give him up, but it was the perfect home for him. :)

nope. not unless i was in a place where i could not physically care for them. i wouldn't give up a dog because he would be "happier" with somebody else. instead i'd change what i was doing so that he'd be that happy with me. (although i'm surprised mushroom hasn't packed his bags and moved in with his grandma of his own volition. he WORSHIPS her.)

neither of my dogs has worked out as a sport dog, and sometimes that frustrates me. there's so much i want to do and can't because my dogs aren't of the right temperament, but i got them as friends and family members first and working dogs second, and i feel it would be utterly wrong of me to "replace" them.

Only if I was too ill to take care of them or homeless would I give up my two fur-babies. The live a pretty spoiled life now so it would be hard to find someone that can give them better than what they have now. I dont want to embarass myself by telling you all the things I do for them, haha.

Only if it was beyond my control to 'fix' things. I would not give them up because of a new baby, unless is was tragically obvious that the baby's life was in immediate danger if the dog stayed.

But I will move, hire a behaviorist, take up a nomadic lifestyle (maybe) if that's what is needed to keep my dogs happy and with me. Although if it's painfully obvious that the dog just is not happy or the right dog for me, then I will do what is in the dog's best interest.

I could never give Casey up as I know she is happy with me. I know I give her the life which she wants so there is no reson to ever give her up. No matter what Casey will be with me till the day she dies.

However if I were to have another dog in the future which wasn't happy with me then I would consider rehoming it if it was in it's best interest.

Honestly I dont think I could just give up Riot. He would find it extremely hard Im sure, wonder where mommy was. I'm sure I wouldn't be able to even visit him because he'd be wanting to come back with me lol Even though i'd want to see him as much as possible.

Its happened with two of the dogs I've babysat though. I babysat a friends Lab for 4 months while they went away to England. She found it VERy rough, she almost died actually i had to rush her to th vets about a week afterwards b/c her immune system went down and her white blood cell count was extremely low. She pulled through though :) When her family came back she was happy to see them, yet soo confused. She wasn't sure who she should go to lol

Then I babysat a friends Dalmation for a few weeks and she didn't even want to go back with her original owners lol

I could not give up Tira. She is happy with us. She gets depressed when Tony leaves for work and is the first one to greet him when he gets back (besides me of course). She loves us and we love her. I've only had Gunner 2 months but I don't think I could get rid of him either. He's so funny and bouncy. More of his personality comes out everyday. He makes us laugh and Tira likes him too. The only way we'd get rid of them would be if we were both dying and absolutely had to.

Would I ever rehome a dog? Yes, if it were in the dog's best interest and would improve the dogs life.

If it were up to me alone, I would rehome Shiloh. As a matter of fact one of my best friends' parents would love to have her. She is house broken, great with kids, and already trained. They would provide her with an excellent one dog family. The only problem is my husband. She is his hunting dog and very loyal to him. She is dog aggressive to other females that is why our home is not the "best" home she could ever have. I do love her, and have had her since a pup, but I can also see a better life for her, now just to convince my hubby.

Now Charlie and Rocket fit our family and lifestyles perfectly, and that just intensifies the love I have for them. I truely believe there would be no way anyone else could improve their lives. I would never agree to rehome them.

We had to do that once. Our neighbors started complaining about our dogs barking all the time, which is downright lie. I mean, how'd they know it was our dogs when they were behind a privacy fence, and there were atleast 25 other dogs in a 3 block radius? So since they couldnt get us for dogs barking, they decided to get us for having one dog over the limit. Couldn't they just wait 2 more months when we wouldnt even live in the same county anymore????
So we had to give up JoJo, a dog we had for 8 YEARS! It was one of the most difficult, heart wretching day of my life. Was it one of the huskies, or my first dog, a dog I had practically grew up with? I kept the huskies, as tough as the decision was, I knew I could never live without them. We gave her to the humane society. Thankfully they're a no-kill shelter, take everyone for walks, play time, teach basic obediance if they dont have any, etc. Rescued from a shelter only to go back to one... They also screen new homes pretty closely too. So we know she went to a good home. But thats the hardest part- knowing she's (hopefully) out there somewhere, have no idea where, have no idea how she's doing now. Is she even alive? She would be 10 now. Does she get to play ball everyday anymore? Or does she even get the cookies she loved so much? Do they let her sleep in the bed, under the blankets? They dont know she had parvo as a pup, and was never quite the same from it. They dont know she loved to pull even though she was only about 15 pounds. They dont know she was my first "sled dog" and would run and pull when I said "Mush!" They dont know my dreams I had for her to be in flyball and agility. They dont know her real name is actually suppose to be "Jolene".
She would have loved it up here, places to run, ground squirells to chase, birds to bark at, finally have enough space so I could start agility and flyball with her...
This was a year and half ago and I'm sitting here crying as I type this...I miss her so much...I'm done now....

I could never give up Sawyer. I don't think he would make it, but I might be flattering myself. But I believe he is my heart dog and I just couldn't part with for anything short of death. Aubrey I think could adjust to whoever would let her on the couch and feed her. Virgo I'm going to have to give up anyway, so while it'll be tough as I've gotten sort of attatched already, I know where she's going and I know that I'll get to see her again.

Never. I couldn't part with Charlie, no matter what the situation. He is my best friend. If I was having issues with him, I wouldn't give up on him, no matter how long it would take to make things better. I do not feel he would be happier somewhere else... Sure, somewhere else he could have better food, more space, more toys, but he wouldn't have me. I just feel that a dog is for life, if you think it would be better off some where else in the first place, I wouldn't get the dog. I love my Charlie boy. :D

I did that once thinking it was the right thing to do. That was my Charlie and i wrote what happened in the rainbow's bridge.
Never again will i sell short their capacity for love
Never again will i think that someone will love them and care for them as i will
i should have waited, things got better. I will forever regret my decision.
There are bonds that should never be broken.

Absolutely not. Never. Not even up for discussion. I can't even bring myself to board him for a vacation!

Buddy is my heart and soul, we do everything we can for him and I know that we provide in the best way for him. There isn't anything we wouldn't do for him and there hasn't been anything that we haven't done, if that makes any sense.
We have spent thousands of dollars on his health care since we've had him and will continue to do so if needed as long as he lives (a lot of money, not everyone has that to dish out for "just a dog"), he will have the best life possible with us. I firmly believe that no one can ever love Buddy like we do. There will never be a time in which we are not able to take care of Buddy... our pets come first.
