I am so easily annoyed at my retail job lately. And I keep getting in trouble for things I've always done before that weren't a Big Deal like they are now.

And I need to vent. I'm sure other people need to vent about work too, right?

Haha, ooohhhh the work vents.... I had 3 jobs in high school college and had AWFUL managers for almost the entire 7 years. So my last semester in college I'm a student teacher, my fiancee makes just enough to support us both so I get to quit that whole minimum wage, awful hours, terrible boss crap and focus on student teaching. At the beginning of the semester I was totally psyched. As student teachers, we're supposed to full time teach for 3-4 weeks of the 16 week period we're there. The rest of the time we should teach a few classes and still have time to observe, journal and work on the 2 MASSIVE projects we have to turn it. Next week will be my last week there and I will have taught full time for no pay for 15 weeks. My cooperating teacher hasn't taught me anything and I haven't done any observing. It made my projects 1000x more stressful. I will be so happy to be done after this week and on to my own classroom (hopefully) soon.

Sorry about your work situation springerlover. I feel like people in retail get super abused... my aunt works in a department store and my fiancee worked in customer service for years and they have some serious horror stories that beat my delivery driver nonsense.

We had 5 dogs in the store at once today and NOBODY fought. It was kind of amazing.

I work here for fun and perks. When the fun is gone the perks don't seem worth it.

I shouldn't have to feel like I'm begging for breaks during this super busy weekend with super needy customers. Or be the only one willing to ask for a break because everyone else just complains to me.

I'm getting burned out of boarding pretty quickly, but my only real vent is customers who are breeding crappy dogs and telling me about it.

Or keeping dogs who have HD on no pain meds and very overweight.

Venting about work is pretty much all I do now. LOL 6 months ago my company sent me on a 10 month assignment 2 hours from home. Now this second company has purchased us, and there is a chance I will be here permanently. I hate it so much though. I'm expected to work 10 hours a day and be on call 24/7 (I'm salaried, so this sucks). The first 5 months I had a great boss, but now I have the worst boss I've ever met who texts each of him employees 5-10 times per weekend, including Thanksgiving at dinner time. I have zero work life balance, especially because I am barely home so I feel like I have no life.

I have 4 months left and I just want to go home permanently, but my husband is pushing for us to stay up here because it will be better for his career. He's not even working here right now, he's back at home, which is also really hard. Honestly it will be better for my career long term too, but I just cannot deal with this anymore. I'd like to go home for a year or two and then consider coming back up here, but I won't know what's happening until they tell us in January. I did tell them I would quit if they made me work for this manager, but I don't want to be put in that position where I'm looking for another job.

Only 4 more months! I just keep hoping this will all be over in 4 months.

I have a lot of sympathy for all of you who work in retail or with other people's dogs! Working directly with customers every day can be so stressful and I know I couldn't deal with other people's dogs day in and day out.

I used to be a people person until I started working retail (service). My all-time favourite comments that I hear umpteen thousand times a day ~ "Oh, that's too expensive, do you know anywhere close by where I can get this done cheaper?" ~ "Do you price match?" ~ "Do you accept competitor coupons?"

No

No

Did I mention this is a service, not a physical product store? And that answering "yes" to any of the above would likely get me at the very least disciplined (and the first one would get me fired)?

I invest weekly in a Lotto retirement plan. When it finally comes through I'll spend the rest of my days playing with my dogs and spending time with my family.

Oh man. I have so many. And then I forget them instantly because I can't handle dwelling on them.

But, most recently...

If you walk into my office, and I'm very obviously holding a phone to my ear, speaking to someone on the other end of it, and typing, please don't say, as loud as you can, "Hello! How are you today?"

wtf. I can't reply to you. I can smile and nod, but c'mon. That's rude. And I already have hearing problems, now I have to make that client repeat what they just said because I couldn't hear them.
