Word usage - Pet peeves

LMAO I think that's why I do it too. Or I'll be typing and I'll go off on a slight tangent so I'll (SUCH AND SUCH) and then I end up with like six things in parenthesis in one paragraph. Obviously I just have too much to say.
Here's one that drives me crazy: "WALAH!" It's voila. Voila. It's French.
I'm sure I drive people nuts because I ALWAYS spell out "et cetera" instead of "etc." I don't know why I do. I just do. AND I ALMOST PUT DOTDOTDOT IN THERE.

I am from south louisiana and they have their own unique brand of incorrect grammar. Personally, i think its cute and I still talk that way unless I intentionally turn it off. lol.
I think things like that, that are native to your area and even ebonics are acceptable when used in a casual setting as long as you are educated enough to turn it off when it's inappropriate.
I think bad grammar has its place in culture. I like how different parts of the country have their own incorrect grammar thats unique to their area. Part of what makes visiting another part of the country interesting.
I use things like: ya'll, ain't, etc cause its acceptable around here and its part of living in the south. "ya'll" is about the only thing I have trouble turning off but even superiors at our company use that one. It's pretty much considered a real word in the south.
Guess I'm not much of a grammar snob, lol.

One thing that does annoy me is people who seem to have the inability to say certain words! lol. I have an aunt who always says "sequence", as in an order of events, instead of "sequins", as in small, shiny accents that you sew onto clothing and such. A few years ago sequins were really popular on shoes and purses, you know all that bohemian/gypsy stuff that was on style. I could hardly stand to be around her at that time, lol.

I feel even the word "annoyed" is too strong, but I generally feel confused(I guess?) when really simple words are just spelled incorrectly, like "feel". But for all I know the person simply made a typo or, like I sometimes do, I put together letters & words incorrectly and then not seeing it later. So I try not to care too much, but I guess that would be my word-usage pet peeve.
Oh and, using words like "tard" and "retard/ed" is a really big pet-peeve. I generally just hate the word and I find it to be rather unimpressive that a person couldn't find a better word to use to describe something. I just think it makes them look uneducated and frankly, not very caring of other peoples feelings. There are tons and tons of other words that can easily be used instead.

I'm not from the south but I have a lot of family and friends in the south AND I listen to quite a bit of Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, etc. So as far as I'm concerned...All ya'll don't know diddly squat. Anyhow on to the subject of the spelling an grammar Nazi's, the only way I could make this post look good is to put it in word and correct everything. I used to be much worse though. Before I started doing RPG's online my grammar and spelling sucked however a lot of people couldn't understand what I was saying so I had to fix that and I worked hard to be more...uh...literate?

You also have to take into consideration that it may not always be that someone intentionally does things to irk you. There are people like me who had hell in school and other things because of learning disabilities and still, like me, have issues.
That said, I use preggo and Preggers all the time, it's fun, it's unique and different. I am myself, therefore I speak the way I do to be unique. If someone doesn't like it, oh well. That's there problem and if they correct me? I'd probably give them a nice little knuckle sandwich. By the way? Have you ever took a close look at the English language? It in itself is not grammatically correct.

I HATE when people don't pronunciate their words. It's usually those who use slang as a language. Yes, to me slang is a completely different language. It usually involves me screaming "WHAT?!" about 5 times before I just say screw this and walk away.
One phrase that p!sses me off is "I ain't got none". :yikes:, makes me want to choke the crap out of them.

(He could have said, "can," since it's in quotes, but he too, needs a grammar nazi.)
He said to the bar tender does not stand alone as one sentence. It needs to part of the first part of the sentence. It's all one sentence. "He said to the bar tender" by itself is an incomplete sentence. He said to the bar tender what? What did he say to the bar tender?
Or you could write, "He said to the bar tender, "May I have a drink please?" The M is capitalized, even though it's not the first word of the sentence. It is the first word in a quote, so you capitalize it.
I agree. Although I am not perfect in my grammar and positively the worst speller, I don't see anything wrong with trying to preserve the English language. To call someone a grammar nazi for this is....well....I don't have words. :rofl1:
