wiping the face

since Coco is a pug, and has a lot of folds on his face, it needs to be wiped every day. our vet gave us some undiluted chlorhexidine that he instructed us to dilute, and wipe his face with it. only problem is, Coco goes crazy when I try to do it. he doesn't let me go near his face. I tried giving him a toy to occupy him, but he drops it as soon as he sees he trying to touch his face. any suggestions on how I could keep him still so I could wipe his face?

I'm not sure exactly what Chlorhexidine is, so I did a search and didn't like what I found. IMO wiping a dogs face with this everyday is too much, and especially not knowing the potency. Does he have [or had] any bacterial infections in the folds on his face? I would personally use a warm, damp wash cloth, especially if there isn't a problem with his face right now.

You actually do WANT to use chlorhexiderm on your pug. They need a somewhat antiseptic cleanser and drying agent to prevent infection and yeast. They have very deep folds, so using a damp cloth alone could lead to yeast or bacterial growth. As far as him going crazy when you try to do this well, he is being a pug! Make him behave!!!!!

Brattina, since Coco didn't let us wipe his face in the beginning, it became a bit irritated, so the vet instructed us to us the chlorhexidine.

I know, showpug, I know! I always knew that pugs were crazy, I just never knew HOW crazy... all thoughts of behaving are out of his mind when he sees the cotton ball.

Hide the cloth or whatever you are using in your fist, approch him with a toy, and start to play with him. Then, when he is settled down, put him in your lap and take the toy with you. Slowly unfold your hand and slowly go near the back of his head when he is still occupied with the toy in your lap.Slowly go over his head the the cottom ball of whatever, and try to get one of the wrinkles. Keeo doing this every day until he gets used to it. (It may not work)

I have never had the privilege of meeting a pug so i dont know how deep deep is, but is it simular to a boxers face? and could this be used on a boxer?

Gallien Jacks, all dogs, even within the same breed, have different types of folds. Coco's folds actually aren't THAT deep, but they are deep enough. I think that a pug's folds are slightly deeper than a boxers, but I suppose that there is definitely a similarity. I think that the chlorhexadine could be used on boxers. the vet said that it is a general disinfectant, and that you could use it even if you get a cut or something. the vet instructed to dilute it, 6 drops for 1 cup of water.

sheba, thank you so much! I did what you advised, and although it took some time to get Coco used to the idea of a wet cotton ball touching his face, I was able to do it.
