I need some veterinarian-authored articles/publications/sources I can cite when explaining to my employers why it's not such a great idea to be pushing dogs into a sit. I have plenty of reasons, but I need some medical sources to back them up.

Medical reasons would be most useful. I've been gently nudging them away from force training for a while, but I get a much faster response when I can say "vets say not to do this, see?"

*Have* their been any medical studies done, though?

I mean...at the clinic, we push dogs' butts down in to a sit (while simultaneously lifting their head up to rock them back) all of the time when we need them in a certain position for blood draws (although we are 15x happier when the dog will sit itself with a command or light pressure).

Now, behaviorally it isn't a sound practice, but medically, i don't know if it matters?

Maybe there are veterinary behavior journals you could search through?

It puts a ton of unnecessary pressure on the lumbosacral area. I always scoop from the rear when handling dogs into a sit.

A gentle nudge probably really isn't a problem. But really cranking a PUUUSSSHHH, yea... not great for the lower back.
