A bit of a poll after an offline debate. Do you have multiple dogs that have, or have not fought over something? I think most people I've talked to have had some sort of incident at least.

Mine have, over food/objects, though not recently. Apparently being 8 and 9 does settle them a bit. Buster did have the edge of his ear split, you can still feel the region if you know where it is.

I have four bitches, one of which is a pit bull. My answer is yes.

Most of it was Bloo being insecure and confrontational. Nothing serious, since I don't leave her alone unsupervised.

I only have one dog right now, but growing up we had two pairs of schnauzers and none of them ever fought. They weren't best friends or anything, and the male in the first pair actively disliked the female, but they never fought or even came close. They just ignored each other most of the time.

Mine have yelled at each other once or twice over a dropped piece of food, but no contact and nothing that has ever required a human to break it up. Just noise. I don't consider it fighting, but some may.

Other than that, no. I made some very deliberate decisions regarding dog 2 and what I was willing to bring into the house with Meg, and then I got really lucky and it worked as planned.

Quke and Ivy have never fought...they have snarled a bit but always work it out. Ivy did send Marley to the vet once and would go after him a bit over food (marley was a huge begger)...he never fought back though. (He went to the vet because she nipped him for growling at Quke when he was a baby and caught his ear JUST right so that it ripped:/). Ivy and my foster bull terrier fought but again, nothing too serious as I was able to separate them and just tossed them outside (it was over the cat) and they were then fine. My previous pack, yes, the chow mix and husky mix fought. Never totally out of control, only one requiring vet attention for a puncture that was right on Ed's shoulder and it pulled funny.

Not Gambit and Gimmick. They are best buds. That said, when the puppy comes I will have two intact males in the home, so we'll see what happens.

I actually picked another whippet over a few other breeds specifically to try and avoid DA within the home

Traveler and Fergus have fought and before that Hannah and Kaylee had fought. Fergus is going through a adolescent buttface stage and taking it out on Traveler.

Didgie could chew Traveler or Fergus's face off and they wouldn't stop her.

Yup. Ickky and Kastle got into a couple of times when we first moved in with DH (Kastle has since been neutered). Limit and Kastle got into it numerous times when Limit was younger any time there was a big change (a trip, a move etc etc) to our lives. No issues since those couple, and they were more noisy snarky nonsense than "real" fights. No blood or wounds. But, more than we like. Luckily, the pack has since balanced out. We'll go ahead and throw that off by adding another intact male this summer

All of mine have probably fought with each other at some point in their lives. Only one major fight when Stryder and Charlie put holes in Lincoln.

Lincoln commonly starts fights over the water dish but that is managed and monitored. Nimbus and Kiba are always at each other, but even though Kiba has permission to put holes in her to get her to stop, she still hasn't taken me up on the offer.

Yes they have. My current two hated each other. They've bloodied each other and both have scares to prove it. One time I had to pick one up, kick the other off and toss one over a fence once separated.

Needless to say, most of the neighbors didn't let their kids come over and play with them after that, which I was actually thankful for.

But they get a long great today, lots of work went into it. I never thought they'd ever be more than just tolerable of each other. Today, they lay together and play like crazy. I still keep them separated when i'm not around and always watch their interactions, but I never thought I'd see a day where they interact like they do now. But I will always be watchful. The day of their "big one", they had been doing very well together for a few months. I have a picture of them laying on the same dog bed together, cool as can be about an hour before it happened.

Jack was picking fights with Crossbone on a daily basis to the point where Crossbone had many scabs on his neck and new scars on his face. When Jack would go after him, Crossbone would lay on the ground and scream. I'd expect him to fight back, but he loooooves Jack so much. I am not able to keep them separated to prevent fights, so Jack is now happily living with my dad. It was a win win for them and made sense.

Crossbone & Pox are just beginning their relationship and so far and are doing well together.

My two have had disagreements. It happens when Watson gets worked up and pushes Menchi past her limit of tolerance for his pushiness.

They are monitored and we have not needed a vet.

My current dogs, no. Fiona can be a raging bitch to Skye when she wants to but it hasn't resulted in an actual fight. We've had two total small scuffles, one over a chew I didn't pick up and one I think was over licking the plates in the dishwasher.

Fiona did start to want to fight with Shelby the Collie last year...no vet trips but they weren't playing.

Romeo used to fight with other boys, he's an overexcited/redirecting fighter. Him and another intact male started fighting about that and it was bad. The last fight before we separated them did require a non emergency vet trip for antibiotics (puncture wounds/limp). That fight I also got bit on my thigh, no skin breakage but serious bruising. Even now when Romeo gets overexcited he gets his hackles up and might run into the girls and bark/yell, but no fighting.

I put yes.

However, I wouldn't say my girls have ever gotten into too serious of a fight. I trust them completely being left along unsupervised while I am working, even with access to all their toys that they are allowed to have regularly (the only things I don't let them keep is things they are way over the top obsessed about and annoy me with, or would chew apart).

My girls do guard things with each other fairly frequently, and also play games of keep away (mostly Chloe and she will turn her head taunting Angel with what she has to try and get Angel to chase her). Most of their guarding involves both of them standing stiffly around whatever they are wanting. Either Angel will put her body on something and not let it move, or she will stand above it stiffly while Chloe will have her head under Angel's with stiffness as she reaches for the toy and takes it away.

Very rarely have they really got into it (like maybe once a year), and when they did I just have to say "Hey!" or "Knock it off" and they stop, or they resolve it on their own within a few seconds anyway. Although, I will say Chloe is meaner than Angel and has frequently chomped on Angels beard/muzzle (nothing to do any damage though). Angel never puts teeth on Chloe (but she will snap right by her and roll her/stand on top of her if Chloe hurts her), even though she would be what I would consider the "dominant" one. As in, if Angel REALLY wants something she gets it/keeps it. But most of the time she gives in and allows Chloe to take things from her.

Yes. Ma'ii and Charlotte have fought, though nothing ever serious has happened side from minor cuts and scratches. It's almost always Ma'ii who starts it. He can be a bit of a bully at times, though Charlotte can be a real bitch over toys as well.
They've always been easy to split up though. All I have to do is yell "KNOCK IT OFF!!" and they imediately stop and go to sulk in seperate corners lol

Just 'yelling' around here really.

Mia yells at pretty much everyone every day. Mostly Hank.

Summer actually pinned Mia up to the fence a while before I got Hank. I think Mia had grabbed her tail one too many times lol. Summer was just laying into her.

Trey and Nikki are the only two dogs we've had that have had a knock down drag out fight involving blood and having to pull dogs off each other.

Aiden and Carm have maybe gotten into one minor scuffle, which was just noise. Carm has gotten into a few minor scuffles with the bf's spayed female. No big drama though, and no vet trips.

Yes, Rowan and Riff have fought multiple times. Rowan hates Riff and Riff is a jerk bully instigator. No vet trips, but we've had a couple of incidents that ended in punctures.

We've had quite a few minor scuffles round here. Usually nothing serious that can't be redirected. Fudge/Scamp Taz/Scamp and Fudge/Taz have all at one point argued with each other but they are trusted 100% together now that they have actually grown up a little bit.

Tika and Scamp used to hate each other and would make a deliberate effort to attack the other at any opportunity. That's been over for a good 3-4 years now and though they are very rarely left alone together they could be.

Diesel/ Fudge and Diesel/Taz have fought before. Diesel deliberately waits until my back is turned/ I'm not nearby before he starts. Never more than minor scuffles because they have handed his @ss to him within the first 10 seconds. They are trusted together in the house, under supervision but never outside and never without someone supervising them at all times.

Diesel has fought with Scamp on 2 occasions. Both of those times Scamp needed stitches and Diesel had to be pulled/beaten off. They are never ever together. The size difference is too much and Diesel knows when he is out of reach and would take any opportunity. It's not worth the risk. The only reason they were even allowed together after the first time was because it was 100% my fault. The big dogs had bones in the yard, someone arrived at the house, I threw Scamp in the yard and they got over aroused in too small a space with high value items to resource guard. The second time had none of those factors however and so they will remain separated forever.

Jackson and Lilly my dads JRT mix have fought... I would say they do it at least 3-4x a year where we have to separate them. Never punctures or blood though. But Lilly is a total b*tch and hates everyone. She growls at us too when she's tired or laying down or sleeping or in a mood. So usually what happens is she will give Jackson a look if he gets too close and then he doesn't like the look and he won't put up with it, so he defends himself.

Usually she starts it but the last one he invaded her space too much... she is a VERY slow eater so the other dogs always wait a good distance away waiting to lick her plate when she's done. And she doesn't even LIKE most food anyway so half the time she leaves a lot of her food. She had walked away and Jackson rushed over to go finish the plate but I guess in her mind she wasn't done so she went after him, he fought back... etc. She's just got an aura about her plus the terrier plus the bitchness and then Jackson has that bit of terrierness about him too where he won't put up with it... so anywho, not the best combo. 95% of the time they're fine though and either ignore each other or whatever.
