Zoe is from a byb and I will never do that again.

My next dog will probably be from a shelter. But I do want a puppy.

Someday if I ever get some land then I may go to a good breeder for a border collie or a breed that I could do agility and frisbee with.

shelter x 2 and rescue x 1. i'd definitely go either route again in the future.

i would consider buying a dog from a breeder in the future, but it wouldn't be an easy thing. i am extremely picky about breeders and what constitutes responsibility, so finding a breeder that i would be willing to give my money to would probably take a considerable amount of time and effort.

Wishbone was from the shelter. When we arrive to get one, this dog escaped from his place and wondering around the place. We saw him playing around the trees back and we see how lively and playful he is. He's just 3 months old then.

Django is from the shelter. I would definately go that route again, but I also would go through a beed rescue or a reputable breeder as well. I guess it all depends on what I am looking for when I get my next dog. I do want to do conformation eventually and if I go with one of my more uncommon breed choices, I would almost have to go the breeder route.

I guess what I am saying is that only only sources I am ruling out are BYBs and puppy mills.

Gonzo is from BC rescue. Fozzie is from an all-breed rescue. : D

I will definitely rescue again.... but, I'm hoping, my next puppy will be a Cardigan from a reputable breeder.

Dasher is from a breeder - Yes I would get another dog from this breeder. She does not breed often and her dogs are amazing.

Zip is a rescue from my local shelter and Yes I would go that route again.

Lille is from a BYB (almost 14years ago) - Nope would never do that again

Rah is from Dobe rescue in NH - would absolutely do that route again. I've had two dogs from them, and I hope to get my next rescue from them.

Tyler is from a town shelter on Long Island - I would absolutely do that again (as two of my dobes have been from that situation as well).

Berlin is from (what I consider) a reputable breeder (though the dog that were just bred do not have AKC CH titles), and I would absolutely go back to her for another dog.

Hey, Kim . . . Speaking of Berlin, we need photos of her. :) Please.

Dash and Dakota are from a breeder in northern Idaho. If I was ever looking for a dog from a show line/working line cross, I'd consider buying from her again. I think my parents will always go to her for their dogs.

Eve is from a breeder in North Carolina, and I absolutely plan on going back to her for another puppy someday.

Jake came from a local breeder when I lived in GA. Though the breeder took wonderful care of his dogs. Jake was my first Border Collie and I do plan on going back for another one in a couple of years. His breeder may want to stud him out to one of his females so I'll keep one of those puppies for sure. :]

Lyrik came from a breeder in MO. I don't think that I would go back to the breeder again because I kind of lost contact with her. She never replies back to any of my updates or calls on Lyrik. =/

Razzle also came froma breeder in MO (different one.) I wouldn't get another dog from them for the same reason as Lyrik's breeder. Both have proven to be outstanding Border Collies though! I love them to death!

Ziixek came from a breeder in AL. We had to drive two hours to get her. I will be going back to get a puppy from them for sure. They keep in great contact with me, support me with her, and so much more! They're my second favorite breeder (Jake's breeder is my first favorite breeder.) They are gonna use Jake as a stud dog and I may consider keeping one of his puppies. :]

Don't get me wrong, I have rescued from Craigslist and from shelters before too. I rescued Max to get him out of that Condo though and to rehome him. I would do that again because he found a wonderful home on a 40 acre farm.

As for my shelter dog, she was a Siberian Husky that had attacked Lyrik when Lyrik was a puppy. We tried for a whole month using a Dog Whisperer too. No results. We rehomed her to a friend of mine. I would give it another shot though if my Dad ever said yes.

Before my Border Collies I had a American Cocker Spanieal and a Golden Retriever when I was a kid. They came from BYBs though. So I wouldn't go back there for a dog! I've fallen in love with Border Collies anyway. :p

what breeders did all your BC's come from? what are the standards before your dogs are studded back to the breeders?

I'm under co-ownership with Berlin, and she will potentially be bred - but as the contract states, that is only after she attains titles (ideally on both ends), and all of her health clearances pass. Without that, she will be spayed.

RD - pictures, I will try to get on that now :)

what breeders did all your BC's come from? Have you worked, titled or shown your dogs (or done health testing) before you stud them out?

Jakob - Andrew Tuck
Lyrik - Caryn Jobe
Razzle - Melissa Long
Ziixek - Mike Easterwood

I'm under agreement when I got Ziixek from Mike Easterwood. I have to allow him to use Jake as a stud dog as of now.

The agreement was that since the puppy was $400 and since my Dad didn't have that kind of money at the time was that we could be $200 for the puppy. Then Jake's stud service would cover for half of that. Yet since I would keep a Jake puppy, his stud service will cover for half on that puppy and I will be $200 for it when we get it.

Jake's still in training in his agaility in herding. Yet I do plan on competeing with him in herding when he is fully trained to hopefully gain some titles. :]

Dober wants to know if the agreement to stud back a dog involves passing health tests or titling.. Not just you paid less so they could use him as a stud..

Everic, what about health testing? Have you had Jake's hips x-rayed, his eyes checked? Do you have OFA and CERF records to prove this? How old is he?

What qualities does Mike find so redeeming about Jake, that he's willing to breed one of his bitches to him?

I haven't had him tested out yet but I do plan to when he hits two years old in March if I have the money. If not I'll get a summer job and end up doing it in summer.

It's gonna be about a year or whatever from now before they ever want to use him as a stud anyway. He'll be two by then and if he passes all of the test with good scores, then they'll use him as a stud.

Well, I think it was awfully presumptuous of you to agree to stud out your dog before you even know if he'll pass his health tests. And awfully presumptuous of a supposedly responsible breeder to agree to take this kind of "payment" knowing full well that the dog hasn't even had something as elementary as hip x-rays done.
