Good Morning,

We have a 8 month old (on the 28th of this month) long haired miniature dachshund. He currently is eating pedigree puppy food. EVO weighs about 7.5lbs. He is a little guy and we aren't sure when to switch him over to regular food. Pedigree has a small dog formula and didn't know if that is way to go?

Thank you.

Usually between 6-9 months people switch over to adult food. I would just do it slowly over a week or 2 adding less of the old food and more of the new food each day. It's easier on their system to change to a new food slowly.

Puppy is considered to be puppy till 9 months. After that it is considered to be adult. You should change your food type between his 8 months and 10 months of age. The change should be slow, not all at once.

This usually happens around 9 to 12 months for small breeds, around 12 months for medium breeds and around 12 to 24 months for large breeds.

Its usually recommended to feed puppy chow until about 6-8 months.. Large breeds would mature by 2 years

Wow, interested in the variation. My vet says you feed puppy food for 1 year. All dogs are puppies until 1 year of age. There is special nutrition and calories that are needed for the puppies until that age.
