Most of you know that I just lost one of my babies, Buddy. (See the Rainbow Bridge Forum) Well, I just got a call from one of the local animal control facilities that I need to come and get 4-6 chi's or chi mixes...they are being surrendered and they have no room for them and they are euthanizing on Friday...I have no idea of their ages or conditions, but I have an appointment to pick them up tomorrow evening...the local humane society will help me with the adoptables if they have room, but any misfits will likely come home with me to live out their lives...It seems that everytime I lose a dog, the floodgates open and I'm sent 2 to replace it...I guess that is partly what keeps me going...I can't spend much time focusing on the loss because there is always another out there waiting to have it's prayers answered...or maybe it's me whose prayers are being answered ;) ...

Sorry for your loss.

I'm glad that you are able to help out more dogs though. Either they will be adopted and go wonderful homes or they will stay with you and live happily the rest of their lives. Post pics as soon as you can!

The plot thickens...seems that the lady that is surrendering them has been breeding them...I guess it is a puppy mill of sorts...They are out on a farm...The kicker is that it is the widow of the former city animal control officer...I have told her that I need to have all of the dogs, so I don't know what I am going to come home with, but I'm going tonight...better strike before she changes her mind!

Wow! You're such a great person to be taking all those sweet babies :)

I can't understand how some people can be so irresponsible with innocent little babies.. but at least there's people like you to make up for them :)

Oh my goodness... You are a saint! I am so impressed by animal rescuers and fosterers. I wouldn't have my Hudson otherwise...

It's truly brave to adopt senior pets or unhealthy pets since you know they'll only be with you a short time. In the long run, though, how beautiful that you will have touched the lives of so many animals, and that so many will have touched your life.

That is so WONDERFUL! :hail: I can see myself doing that whenever I can support myself and pets by myself. I am so happy for you. . .and the dogs who get to be rescued by caring people like you.

Update...

I was only able to get 4, well, 5 actually...1 female with a 1 week old puppy, another female and 2 males...they are all intact, as are her others...they are all together, fornicating at will...mothers to sons, etc.-I offered her $1000 to let me take the rest of them, but she refused...there are about 8-10 more...some seniors...there are also some outside dogs chained up...now, the dogs are all fed, but they are living in filth...they need their nails trimmed, they have matted hair and they are crawling with fleas...the ones I brought home are in good flesh, but they have no social skills...1 of them is so scared that he hides and tries to bite if approached...I will test for heartworms, but I'm sure they have never had any sort of preventative...the problem is, this is not illegal, so there is nothing I can do to force them to give the rest of animals up to me...I am just hoping that the thought of $1000 will begin to entice them...Sadly, I know they love the animals...the Mom was crying her eyes out as she put them in my arms...they just do not have the resources to take care of them and they don't have the capacity to understand why it is important to spay/neuter...ironic since they had an animal control officer in the family...they are selling the puppies for $50 a piece and supplementing their government income...they live in poverty...one little guy sat on my lap...he had a cherry eye and his nails were curled around his toes...he looked up at me and licked my nose...she wouldn't let me have him, but you can be sure that he is praying that I will be back for him, and so am I...I know that I will get these guys if it is right for me to have them and it certainly seems right!

Oh my god... what a tragic situation! It's so sad when people are just so uneducated, and innocent animals must pay the price. I think it's great you offered her the $1000. I hope she takes it.

That is so sad. I can't believe the ways that people will treat their pets. I fostered an abandoned chi puppy last year, who was dropped off at Petsmart when she was 6 weeks old. She was very very sick, and it took a while to nurse her back to health.
I wish I lived closer, I would definately help with these rescues :(
I hope that she takes the $1000 you offered. People like this do not deserve to have pets.
