I could see myself naming a male dog Kanye just so I could have it neutered....

Gusto took forever to name; there was never a different name. Meg only got her name because she wasn't going to stay and I didn't want to use up a name I really liked on a foster dog. I had already wasted Sasha (which I loved as a name) on a foster dog who didn't end up staying. If she hadn't come so soon after Sasha left, and if I'd known she was going to stay, I might have re-used the name.

Hmmm, let's see.

When we got Blackie, the choice was between Blackie and Shadow. (Oh, how original children are when naming their black Labrador.) LOL

Brownie's original name was Shelby.

Rose was always a Rose.

Before we knew our neighbor's Malamute (who essentially lived at our house) was named Loupie, we called her Licky, because she gave us kisses constantly. (Again, children. LOL)

Chloe was supposed to be a Raina. Then my mom wanted to call her Phoebe.

Cynder was originally Ginger. Michael also thought about the name Eymber.

Abrams was always an Abrams.

Well. Just look at my signature. I was 7. :rofl1:

Embyr I wanted to be Echo. My mom thought it was too close to Shadow. I also wanted her to be Juice, but it got veto'd.

We got our cat when I was in first grade. I voted we name him Tannie, since he was tan. Apparently that's how kids name their pets!

I got outvoted, and we named him Rocky, but Tannie was his middle name ;)

We had a brown tabby cat hop in our car one time when I was five, we kept him for a couple of weeks while we searched for (and then found!) his owner... I named him Mud.

Fable was originally Annabelle at the rescue (my username is so original...), but I really don't like the idea of people names for dogs. I cycled through SO many names in the first week, and actually ended up calling her Fala (it means something in Native American) for a couple days. I eventually decided that Fala doesn't roll off the tongue right, and settled on Fable.

I've always liked the name MAX, it can be used for a male (Maximillion), or a female (Maxine).
My Golden Retriever is officially named Cassiopeia, she's called "Cassie" most of the time and during trials, she's called Cass (Short and sharp).

I totally laugh that you have a Shadow and an Embyr when those were name contenders for ours. Lol

I am so bad with names. I was coming here to complain though that my mom and husband are now referring to Truman my Dobe as "Not Byron" or "New Byron" and I almost give up  My grandparents apparently had schipperkes and they were all named Mitzee when my mom was little so I'm fighting a loosing battle.

I like Augustus (not even sure how to spell) and call Gus for short.

Abe was named Aberdeen before we got him. I hated that and settled for Abe which I now think suits him perfectly!
Fig was Emma and I wanted to name her after my favorite Disney character Figment and it was shortened over time to fig.

I probably would have named Abe something weird given the chance

Hugo was Prince when we adopted him. My SO really loved the name Hugo even before we met him. I almost kept it as Prince because I was being dorky- my childhood dog who was my absolute best friend was named Princess- so it felt like fate : )

Crossbone was Scooter, Gator and Cody in former lives...and Pox was Victor Frankenstein (we ALMOST kept his name as Frankenstein)

Cricket was Poppy before I decided on Cricket.

Joey used to be Rodger. I wanted to make him something more creative than Joey, but Joey just fits him too well.

Itztli was going to be pirate, but so many people told me they hated that name and I kept going back to itztli.

Bamm is the only dog that I have not changed the name. His original name was Gideon, but his foster mom renamed him Bamm. I liked it and kept it.

Well, I just got my dog as a pup, so I had the opportunity to name it myself. My dog's name is Love Shack. I'm aiming for "Soda Jerk" to be my next pup's name. Yes, I am for real. I can even post up the reg. papers of my dog's name, aha. I like weird and strange names that no one else has.

No other name crossed my mind for Milo. Except Apollo but I decided to save that for a kid.

When I briefly considered keeping my foster dog Edna, I considered renaming her Zuri, Willow, or Jay. Zuri was because my last foster was renamed Cudi, and Kid Cudi's niece is mentioned in the song Up Up and Away which was just really positive and a connection to my first/previous foster, and I love the name but Id probably not use an African name for a kid.

Willow was because her tail reminded me of the whomping willow.

Jay, I don't know where it came from. I think Bluejay because we saw some in the park when I got her.

Harlow was Harlow. Until I almost changed it to Nub or Smudge. But stayed Harlow.

Rider was Gunner in his foster home. Didn't fit at all. I wanted to call him Preacher or LeDoux, decided to save LeDoux for a later more manly dog. DH vetoed Preacher.

Tulsa was Tulsa from the start, even though I had planned on Teller for a short bit.

Chessie came as Iggy. Try as we might to find something else, Iggy stuck. So IggyBear it is- hopefully merging towards Bear in the future.

Buzz was a toss up between Buzz and Domino. I can't imagine him ever being anything else.

Bailey's name was picked out before she was even born. I really hated having two "B" names for a long time so I wanted to change Bailey's but nothing else ever fit her either.

Gabby I just added a "b" so her name made sense.
