If you dog could choose your Nextdog, what would it be?

Zoe only tolerates Rook, so I can't really list a vote from her. She hates bouncy and fast, especially spaniels and a particular BC, but there's no breed that she thinks is a-okay overall.

Rook LOVES Chihuahuas. I'm not sure if she feels the same about all tiny dogs, but the Chihuahuas she has met she has been obsessed with. With most dogs, she is either intimidated or she just ignores them. Dogs her size that try to initiate play get ignored. I'm not sure what her deal is there. Most dogs ignore her because she can't do normal body language, but I'm in classes with a Cocker and a MAS and both love Rook, but she doesn't really care. But Chis? OMG, must say hi, must sniff, must be reminded to be gentle because they are tiny.

My guess is her disability makes her unsure of herself. She spent the first 8 months of her life around 50-60 other dogs, so it's not like she wasn't socialized to a variety of sizes and ages and temperaments (though they're inbred, so the variety wasn't huge.) She has scars from at least three bad bites, so maybe ignoring is just her coping mechanism to fly under the radar of other dogs.

Probably Rough Collies and Picards, however the circumstances under which we run into them means he has never gotten to play with an individual of either breed and probably never will. They get the strongest "OMGGGGGG" reaction from him though. I think it's the hair that excites him.

He plays best so far with molossers, hounds and terriers.

Standard Poodles. Mostly because his best friend forever is one. She loves to be chased and he loves to chase, and off they go forever and ever. So now whenever he meets other standard poodles, he thinks they want to be chased too! (and most do luckily, but he has perturbed a few :lol-sign:)

Otherwise, he mostly prefers dogs like him, so herder brains. He's definitely made the best friends the fastest with other acd mixes specifically, which is interesting.

But, he really is more of an ageist rather than a breedist. Dogs his age are played with enthusiastically and immediately, whereas the game takes a bit longer to warm up with dogs that are significantly older or younger than him.

Hank has a major major infatuation with Golden Retrievers. He will leave any other dog for a golden retriever.

It really doesn't even have to be a purebred golden but really any long haired gold colored dog will do. There was a dog that looked like a border collie in build but was solid yellow and feathered and that totally worked for Hank too.

One of his BFFs is a golden but he also has equal BFFs of other breeds and yet he doesn't adore those breeds as a whole like he does goldens.

Meg: A stuffed dog. She still wishes she were an only child most of the time. I could probably bring home just about any puppy and she'd wind up fine with it (she did a great job raising Gusto), but barring some sort of horrible thing happening to Gusto, I've pretty much promised Meg that I won't make her raise another puppy. If I tried to bring home an adult, it would have to be an intact male, and definitely not a lab or GSD. But I wouldn't do that to her.

Gusto: Any dog. He's really the most equal opportunity friend ever. He loves retrievers, he loves herding dogs, he loves little dogs. Really, really rough players (some labs and terriers) can get him a little overwhelmed and worried sometimes, but he just gets himself clear of the play (onto my shoulders usually) until things settle a bit.

Abrams really doesn't have a breed preference. So far, his good doggy friends (or dogs he isn't an asshole towards) have all been medium-large females who are politely indifferent to him and have a gentle (chasing/gentle nipping/light wrestling) playstyle and who also aren't loudly vocal. BUT, I know he doesn't hate male dogs, because he also hit it off with an indifferent male ACD and a timidly playful male Aussie/Husky mix on two seperate occasions, as well as accepting a male Boston into our house for a day or two (who was indifferent to him).

He tends to ignore small dogs, so long as they ignore him.

He does not like ANY dog that barks/lunges/screams/blusters at him. He'll politely ignore dogs that politely ignore him, but if they act out towards him he takes that as a deadly offense and turns into a nut job right back at them. (He especially hates Pugs that snortscream at him.) I've also come to discover that puppies confuse the heck out of him and he does not appreciate the fact that they know no physical boundaries and don't understand what "gothe****away" means.

Ru would be happiest if the only other dogs in the world were chihuahuas. With anything else he is always right on the line between playing and fighting when he actually interacts. At the off-leash beach he won't even greet any other breeds, but with other chis he is Mr. Personality. It's like they're another species entirely.

Brisbane loves other cattledogs and mixes, and also standard poodles. All his favorite play buddies have been standard poodles. He loves chasing and biting, and hates pushy bulldozer dogs.

Sisci also loves other cattledogs and herders and hates dogs that want to body slam or wrestle. Her siblings are all very labby and she can't stand them.

For Rara, always Aussies... only Aussies... I don't know if it's an all breed thing to adore other dogs of the same breed, but Rara has only ever been totally in love with other Aussies, complete strangers. She acts like every random Aussie is her long lost sister.

Jackson usually gets along really well with most toy dogs and other small terriers. He is also fine with larger more mellow dogs but he never really 'plays' with bigger dogs like he does with dogs similar to his size or smaller. He tends to really like most herders we've been around.

He definitely would be miserable with most exuberant larger breeds. He's not a fan of bully breeds, bulldogs, frenchies, etc, he just... doesn't understand their body language or snorting noises lol.

It totally is. Dogs that never ever play at daycare will play like puppies with a dog of the same breed. I've seen this with ridgebacks, PWDs, wheatens, westies, pointers, pyrenees, berners...

Exceptions: Dalmatians snub other dalmatians. Boxers and bulldogs **** off other dogs of their own breed to the point where we can only have one of each per playgroup. Labs and goldens will play with aaaaaaaaanybody.

Wilson LOVES little dogs (under 30 pounds), any little dog. They usually don't love him back because his play style is very bouncy and puppy-ish and probably too much for most little dogs. The exception to that are terriers, especially rat terriers. They seem to keep up with him just fine. His bff is a goldendoodle named Bella who is about the same size as him that's in our agility class, and she also loves him so they get to play sometimes.

Sam seems to really hit it off with havanese at work, and with beagles and ACDs everywhere else.

Rowan loves female cattle dogs. He loves female herding dogs in general but cattle dogs are A+ in his book. He also looooves little dogs, male or female.

Riff is pretty much equal opportunity on who he annoys, although he is especially fond of smaller dogs.

Stitch also seems like he likes everyone equally. He's my only dog that actually consistently plays well with strange dogs and I'm still getting used to it. He seems to really like goldens, which is appropriate since he is a weird golden retriever himself. :p

Hugo will play with most any dog that doesn't try to body slam him but he especially loves dogs that will play chase. He gets the most excited over greyhounds because he has two greyhound friends that can (obviously) easily outrun him. Both greyhounds do this thing where they slow down until he's ALMOST caught up with them then SPEED off. They'll do it over and over and he's addicted to it. When he starts slowing down, the grey's will flip and chase him : p.

Gael, despite being a spayed female and a serious sort of dog, loves any entire males and loses her mind and goes all ears back and flirty.

Scout likes big solid dogs. Black or black and tan is a preference. Scout would like me to get a Rottweiler.

An entire male Rottweiler would therefore be perfect for both girls.

Kep loves all puppies and Goldies. Goldie puppies blow his mind.

Camo is a puppy herself, but she would like another Kep, so she always had one to play with when the other one was otherwise occupied.

Ryker likes all dogs, but he loves other scent hounds. I think he enjoys the yelling matches.

Panzer likes small dogs and dogs who aren't too rambunctious, unless it is Ryker.

Gypsy would like it if Ryker and Panzer both dropped dead.

Oh and papillons hate all other dogs. It's kind of universal that they seem to only like papillons. Though mine will sometimes buddy up to certain dogs they deem worthy. Usually really big mellow dogs or small dogs like poms, cavs, chis, etc. Anything gentle that basically ignores them.

AKA: NOT Hank. :p

Hank does well with herders, retrievers, that kind of thing. He does not do well with male terrier types that are as assertive as he is. Nope. Hank wants playmates that play rough as he wants then back off when he says back off. He's kind of a jerk. No more dog park for Hank.

Doom would choose to be an only dog.
Bridget would choose another golden. She worship's Percy.
Percy would choose another Bridget, I guess. He loves her as much as she loves him.
Piglet would probably choose a boxer. She loved the one I used to board in El Paso.
