the Teenage work thread got me thinking about all my past jobs... and I have had a lot of them in a lot of different fields lol.

So what is the oddest job you have ever had... like the kind of job that makes employers say "Really?" LOL

Mine is hands down... Singing Telegrams. I don't remember how long I had that job for... eventually she went out of business or just skipped town (we never really found out what happened she just left and we never heard from her again) or I would have kept that job forever lol.

Basically I went to restaurants or party halls or people's work places and performed my little skit for anniversaries, birthdays, whatever. I LOVED that job. I got paid $30 for each 7 minute skit lol. My character was Tacky Tina Trailer Trash and I was loud and obnoxious... and I sang "My guy" and "Hey good looking"... and Happy birthday if it was for a birthday and everyone was encouraged to join in.

My favourite was this big wig at this cookie company. It was his birthday and all the employees had planned to have me come in and do my thing. So they had staged a big meeting the day that I was supposed to come. I was in the waiting area and the receptionist says "I can't believe they are doing this... I hope we don't all get fired" and I thought... GREAT this guy is a hard ass. Well... I walk in the room and start doing my thing and this guy looks at me like "Who in the H#LL do you think you are" and I thought... Oh carp. BUT... I kept doing my thing. Eventually he caught on to what was happening... and from that moment on he was my BEST customer. He played a long and had a great time with it LOL.

I always had that on my resume and I think it gave me an advantage lol. employers saw that and always had a ton of questions for me about it :D

So.. what was your oddest job

I have had so many jobs, many odd, many normal, and a few were WTF was I thinking.

But I guess the weirdest is...

Probably selling knives door to door lmao. I don't even know how or why I took it. I seen how much you could make and thought I would be able to make so much money. lmao knives door to door, sounds like a serial killer movie.

I think jobs in vet clinics all constitute as 'odd'. At two of the clinics I've been at we've reached a consensus of 'you have to be weird to enjoy this job'.

Most memorable moment was two weeks after I started at my first clinic (tender, green feet). I walk out into the treatment area from kennels and the vet is sitting there with a cat she just euthanized. So I'm standing there, looking at the cat thinking 'poor thing' and the vet pulls out a machete and in one swift strike decapitates the corpse.

I just kind of froze with a 'WTF' look on my face I reckon because the vet looked at me, laughed, and goes 'you have to take the head off to send it in for rabies testing'.

But the best part was she heard another technician enter the building from the back door so she grabs the cat head, waits at the peak of the corner until she hears the tech getting closer then jumps out with the head in her hand.

Another moment was when another vet that I was shadowing in a different clinic was amputating a leg. I looked at my watch and went 'oh I have to go to lunch now so I can make class on time'. He just looks at the leg on the table and asked me if I wanted it To-Go or just heat it up there.

There's several other moments along those lines that I've encountered in the vet field so...vet tech would have to be the weirdest job I've ever had.

None weird really , I did go into a Travel place in San Antonio because I saw 2 guys with their feet up during lunch time and figured they needed someone to relieve them for lunch , It was a gut feeling and they hired me ! No experience ...." can you take dictation " , No but I can write fast . Of course this was before the internet . People would call for reservations ...I'd say I'd call them back and then call the airlines . Anyway , it was during Tom's Army stint and I basically handled eveything . They were playboys and rarely showed up. When I left , they set up a nice trip to Mexico for us at their cost . Yup ...that was weird !

I havent had really a "odd" job, but the worst was def. being a telemarketer... Ugggg some of those phone calls are still priceless. Its amazing how rude and horrid people can be when they are on the other end of a phone call.
