What dog sports do your dogs do?

I'm new here, thought this would be a good way to get to know many of you and what you do with your dogs! I've looked through a lot of the posts but this will be a way to have things more concise for me.

These are the things my dogs and I have dabbled in over the years:

Obedience (German Shepherds: Dawson and Trick, Chows: Kylee, Dora and Khana, and Australian Shepherd: Lady .. total of 17 titles so far)

Herding (Dawson, Trick, Lady and Kylee .. one actual title, others all certified on sheep)

Agility (Trick, Kylee, Dora and Tori .. total of eight titles so far)

Tracking (Dawson and Kylee .. AKC style tracking, but no titling as of yet)

Schutzhund (Trick and Kylee .. schutzhund BH on Kylee)

Rally (Trick and Khana .. one title so far)

Freestyle (Trick, Dora and Khana .. just for fun and demo)

Conformation (Khana primarily .. Dora is pointed too, but is spayed now)

Flyball (Trick and Khana .. just for fun)

I like variety, can you tell? *L* When I was young (high school) I was a charter member of the Peninsula Junior Sled Dog Association, we ran races in the winter and my dog pulled a flatbed trailer in the summer (parades and just for fun). But that's a LONG time in the past now.

By the way, Dawson and Lady have passed on, Kylee is retired and Dora is close to that, and Tori is just a "live at home" dog now. The list above covers some 17 years of training and playing. Trick and Khana are the two that do the most at this point. My heart is in obedience, rally and freestyle although the others were all fun too.

So what things do you do with your dogs?

nothing yet, buster is the dog i would do anything with and would love to put him thru agility and obediance but the town is too small and he has a fair bit of dog aggresion

I've seen some dogs come through agility training that have been aggressive and most of them turned that energy into focusing on the obstacles and it actually helped them work through much of their aggression problems.

Finding a good agility training class is the key, though. Everything needs to be done in a safe and positive manner, lots of reward for doing behaviors and controlling the situation so that everyone is safe.

Hopefully you can find something like that for you and Buster to join!

yeah, but the town is like 10, 000 people. the only 3 dog events i know of are the jack russel races on Australia Day, the dog jumping at the show. but buster doesnt liek the idea of scrabling up a wall so im not going to bother with that and dog obediance classes. which I might start when I turn 16 for the social factor (1 week left YAY)

wow..i tried obedience, agility & flyball.. thats it. my dogs nothing expert in any field, but it's just so much fun the time i spent with them during the training session..

The labs - goose hunting, duck hunting, dove hunting. Well, retrieving.

Shepherd - tracking, narc. detection, apprehension, personal protection.

I have my first performance dog, no titles yet as he is only a pup.
We're currently doing:
Basic agility training, I want his novice title by the end of the year
Tracking and scent discrimination, just for fun and mental stimulation
Proofing of basic obedience commands, as he has such a hard time keeping his feet planted in a stand-stay when there are people walking around him. He's too high energy for obedience right now, which is why we're focusing on agility.
Once we're good and started in agility, I will likely start training him in flyball and join a club. He had taken to it immediately when we gave it a whirl at a show, just for fun.

That's the biggest thing to me - spending time with my dogs that we both enjoy. Anything past that is just icing on the cake!

Labs are BIG up here, lots of duck hunting here. I live on a river and I swear my older shepherd is half lab - she will spend most of her time in the river when she can. She'll actually swim out and then turn upriver and just swim in place .. *L* .. and she's a retrieving fool, will retrieve sticks until she drops! But I think any duck she picked up would be pulverized .. NOT a soft mouthed dog.

I'd love to do narc detection .. I've trained scent discrimination and that's a lot of fun.

Sounds like you're having a lot of fun with him! I have a young one too, we're working in obedience and I'll put her in rally competition this summer just to see how she'll do - but regular obedience may take awhile yet! She's a squirmy thing .. *L*

Flyball was just for fun, our club started it a year ago and I put my (then) 6-month old chow in it. I figured I needed a challenge! She was the deliquent of the class (I can't tell you how many times she said "WHAT tennis ball??" and raced around the room instead). But she finally brought it together enough to look like she half-way knew what she was doing. Here she is coming down the flyball hurdles:

Agility-

I've trained my cockers, a NSDTR, a few border collies, some terrier mixes, and a belgian malinois in agility.

Right now I am competing in NADAC, UKC, and CPE agility with four dogs; Cocoa(my cocker), Dega(terrier mix), Tip(border collie) and Tusket(NSDTR)

Obedience-

I have been training in obedience with my cockers since I was eight. Cocoa now has both her CDs in UKC and AKC obedience. She will be trialing in Open in no time.

I've also trained a few other dogs in both novice obedience and just plain old basic obedience.

Jr showmanship-
been doing this for a while, but was never successful due to my cocker's poor conformation and hatred for showing. I now have a new adult male Pointer for Jrs.

I fond of agility and obedience. I've two border collies. One of them is too young, but second became a Champion of Russsia in obedience last weekend.
It was very hard, because in winter there is o lot of snow in our country. And often temperature is -30. We have too little for training.

I do agility with my Border Collie and Obedience with my German Shepherd. Hoping to get both into trialing stage..

I've dabbled in agility with my older boy, Tai. He really enjoyed it, and I think now that he's older he would be a lot more trustworthy off leash.

Kimi's recall (she is SUCH the typical Shiba), is bad enough that I'm not sure I would ever trust her in competition. I've trained her to do dog walks, teeters, tires, and hurdles all on leash- and she's fantastic. She's lightning quick, can turn on a dime (and give you a nickel in change), so maybe one of these days we'll actually go take a basic agility class.

I like agility and I just finished Beginning Obedience with Murphy. I've signed him up for the next class and signed Michaleen up for the Beginning class. Murphy is doing well enough (and enjoys obedience enough) that I'm thinking about competing with him. I'd like to try Rally Obedience with him, too.
Michaleen seems to like agility more (he's doing much better than Murphy in learning the weave poles and he's pretty fearless about trying the different obstacles.) The agility club I belong to offers lessons, from beginning to advanced levels, but I'm over an hour away and I just can't get home from work, grab the dogs and make it back to the city in time. Plus, I never know when I'm going to have to work overtime. It's frustrating. Oh well, I'll keep playing with the home equipment... (and plot to get more. Heh heh.)
I've also been playing around with teaching the boys to pull, with an eye towards scootering.
I used to do tracking (for fun) with my Rott mix, Emily (lost her last Nov.) I might try that with the boys as well. (Murphy already likes trying to steal my leather work gloves, he might as well track 'em down, too. Lol!)

Our main thing is dogsledding.

This summer we''ll be playing with conformation (altered classes) and obedience. In the future I hope to do agility with him and maybe flyball. Might be trying more Rally-O with him this summer too.

Chico just got his CD title two weeks ago, yeah!!! I am also doing agility, tracking and maybe a few more things when he's older. He is also training to be my mother's service dog.

-30 weather? Lucky you! I love the cold.

I do obedience with Zeus. Although he can't compete in actual competitions, I would like to train him to the level where he *could* get a CDX in theory. Right now, we're working on retreive and hurdles. I'm very proud of him. Especially since I was once told not to "waste my time" trying to do obedience with a hound.

With my last dog, Odin, I did weight pulling in the backyard. He was a rott/husky mix and absolutely lived for it. It gave him amazing muscle tone, too.
