It seems like something I should have figured out by now but I don't really know what color Tucker is considered. I didn't think much of it until I started bringing him to the new vet and when setting up a new client profile for him they asked what color he was. I was like uhhhhhh....tan, I guess. His adoption paper work listed him as buff and his previous vet paper work listed him as tan. I'm not sure either of those are quite right though. I've considered gold because he's somewhat similar to a golden retriever but he's darker/more red. What would you call him?

Do you have a puppy picture?

He looks fawn/sable here. With urajiro and a snow nose. I'd link but I'm on phone.

He does have a snow nose, we joke that he got it from pressing his nose against the window while barking at dogs.

Never heard of urajiro, I'll have to look that up.

Here are puppy pics. He was born with the black stripe and lost it around 4 months of age everywhere except his tail. You can still see some black hairs interspersed throughout his back, especially on his shoulders.

Around 6-7 months old

If he was a cat he would be orange. I'd still call him orange and call it a day lol!

For purposes of vet records, just call him red, fawn, or gold. They're probably not gonna have stuff like urajiro in their system.

Haha, no I didn't plan on telling them all of his official patterns but it is interesting to know. I didn't know he was considered sable either.

He's a clear sable (called fawn in some breeds), not ee-yellow like a golden retriever. The giveaway is the black hair on his tail -- an ee-yellow dog has all black masked by the yellow (barring somatic mutation or something crazy like that, which is normally patchy).

Basically he's the same color as my Kim :)

Summer is also clear sable. I can't remember what her vet records say. I think sable and white or red and white.

I'd call him cute :D

That is interesting with the sable. JRT people never pay that much attention. I guess Dekka is actual a clear sable and white? She has a lot more black tips to her brown when she was younger.

Yeah anything tan with black tips/hairs will be sable. A true red and white dog will never have any black in their coat. They'll typically be lighter as puppies and darken as they age. Sables will start darker then end up lighter typically.
