See I dunno about that. Kody is all black and tan, but he has a small patch of white on his chest. True, its more white than that dog has brown, but I was told Kody was still considered black and tan....

Black-factored tri in border collies doesn't necessarily mean the tan is blackened. I've been blackened tan points in white-factored AND black-factored BCs; the black/white factor is mostly discerned by looking at the hind legs. If the inside of the legs are white, the dog is white-factored; Tan, the dog is black-factored. Finn is black-factored but has strong tan points with very little black dilution.
We have a thing called minimal tricolor too but the page with the pictures I usually reference is down. Typically though I think those are just lacking in complete tan markings but this guy seems to have weird tan undertones above his eyes.
