what can you do in case of poisoning

Hello all!

Hope all is well!

Well i've been wondering if someone knows of something quick you can do if you see that your dog was poisoned, something you can do right away before you take the dog to the vet.

Anyone knows of something?

I'm so afraid that my neighbor may try something.
He's sick...my dog doesn't bark at night(11pm-9am) nor during the hours from 1pm -5pm. She barks only when she sees something the other hours.

The house is mine and i don't live on an appartment so as to bug someone.
Well yesterday he had a fight with my father for something really stupid.
he seriously thinks that he's a king or something to the neighborhood.

There are 3 more dogs in the neighborhood that bark all the time,yet this guy is bugged by mine... :mad:

I'm scared.I really want to know if there's something i can do in case something bad happens to my dog.

Well. I don't KNOW what you should do. But I would rush the dog to the vet and if I had to wait a bit I would try and get as much water in him/her as I could. But I don't know if there are better things to do.

I hope that doesn't happen!

When will people get it through their heads that dogs bark. They just need to calm down and go have an ice cream sandwich or something. People these days are so uptight.

Wow that sounds just like my neighbor. I also have the exact same fears.

I told the guy that if anything happens to either of my dogs, that I would come after him with a bat and I mean it. I guess I scared him cuz he hasn't made a peep yet though I have heard him yell at my grandma and I just started screaming at him.

If anyone hurt my dogs, may god watch over them though its not gonna help cuz ill be beating the living hell out of them and than calling the cops. I seriously do not think I would care if I went to jail or not. I love my dogs too much that if anyone did something bad to them, I'd snap.

Have you tried talking to the guy? Some people are reasonable. Others are just plain idiots and they need to get over their own problems instead of lashing out at others.
 
The best thing to do is get to the vet immediately! There are so many different ways to poison a dog, and what may help in one case can make things infinitely worse in others.

You took the words out of my mouth Renee! It is important to try and find out what he gave your dog though because it will help the vet give them an antidote as quickly as possible!! I would also keep the poisons helpline close at hand!
 
The best thing is prevention...and only thing you can do is to really supervise your dog and walk around your property every moring and a few times during the day, each time you let your dog out.....and inspect it for anything suspicious. Watch your dog to see if he is interested in something....sniffing, as in food.

That is despicable...the thought that your neighbor would do something like that. But I know....it does happen. :mad:

I would teach your dog to "drop it" or "leave it" so if you see him grab something, he'll obey, although hard to do if it's in some ground beef or something. But you might beef up that training. (pardon the pun)

You might also ask your vet about anything you can do before bringing your dog in to see him, if you suspect poisoning.

Antifreeze is usually the poison of choice here, and there's very little you can do about it. There is a new treatment that is about 50% (or less) effective if given within a few hours, but you rarely know a dog has been fed antifreeze that quickly. It's also well over $1,000 - which is awful, considering how many dogs get poisoned by antifreeze. It should be something inexpensive enough to have on hand or at least at your local vet's.

Call your Vet ASAP as well.
 
Those numbers will only work if you know what your dog has been poisoned with. AND, keep in mind that a lot of symptoms from poisoning don't show up immediatley and a lot of times by the time the dog acts ill it is too late. I agree that prevention and never letting your dog out unattended is key here. I go out with my dogs each and every time. I want to make sure their bowel movements are normal and that they don't try to eat anything that they shouldn't. If this is your concern, then never take your eyes off your dog when it is outside.
 
thanks guys for all the suggestions.I always check around the environment for suspicious things,but sometimes i'm not home for few hours...everything can happen in few hours.

The guy doesn't listen, i guess his a madman...the thing that really upsets me is that all the dogs in the neighborhood bark,even at midnite but he gets bugged by mine...eventhough my dog doesn't bark at night grrrrrrrrrrr....

I guess i'll have to pray for not to happen something bad...or else the guy will get a really bad enemy.

never heard of antifreeze poisoning here renee.Here they do things with mice poison or broken glasses and stuff like that... :(

My previous dog got killed by broken glasses...really sick the person who did that :(

Elinhunter...that is an adorable picture of Eli's first birthday. Is that you? Very, very cute. Eli is really studying how one blows out a candle. LOL.

I take it inside only during 12pm to 5pm and 8pm to 11pm,my second brother doesn't like dogs in the house so if my brother is home,my dog has to be outside.
