My Wally (Greyhound).

Though all of my aunts, growing up, had GSDs. So that was really the first breed I was heavily exposed to.

First dog, Cleo (middle), standard poodle. We got her when I was 13. First dog that was completely my responsibility, Daisy (left), basset. I got her when I was... 20? I think?

First 2 family dogs were Aussies.

My first dog that I really bonded to was a GSD, who I had to rehome. Quinn has been the first "my dog" since.

Milou was this cute little mutt we got from the shelter. I loved that dog, when he passed it took me a while to get over it.

The first family dog was a Springer Spaniel named Bandit, he liked to escape and get into dog fights. One time he came home after being in a really bad fight and since mum just divorced dad money was tight, so she had to clean him up and sew him up herself with an upholstery needle while grandma sat on him to hold him down. He also would chase frisbees and would often run into poles if they were in the line of frisbee travel.

As you all know, Izzie is my first personal dog.

The first family dog was a Labrador named Sam - best dog EVER. I don't have any pictures on my computer, but I'll have to try and scan them in.

My first dog is Harleigh. :)

My first family dog was a red miniature poodle named Oliver that my parents bought for my brother a few years before I was born. The first dog that was "mine" was a little poodley dog, supposedly purebred but we suspected poodle/cocker spaniel, named Lucky. We bought him when I was 5, so my parents were his main caretakers for years, but he was definitely MY dog, not a family pet.

Rowan, my Brittany, is the first dog I've picked out myself and been fully responsible for.

I've been thinking about it "MY" first dog after this thread was bumped ;)
I even made a little post about it in my blog hehe.

Maddie is, technically "MY" first dog. She's the first dog I have solely cared for, bought(paid) things for, raised from a puppy, trained etc etc.

But Buffy immediately came to mind. Buffy was, of course, technically my Mom's dog. She had this dog when I was born... but Buffy took to me, and was by my side constantly. I don't remember remember Buffy specifically, but I remember her presence - does that make sense? I remember her always being around. She never needed a leash or anything like that. I have pictures of her laying under my crib, swing, etc and playing outside with me in the summer, winter, and fall...
So, of course, I've seen tons of pictures of her, always by me, in my baby book and such. After seeing this thread on Chaz I decided to look through the old photo albums to see what I could find.
The pictures of Buffy I found gave me chills

I think she looks A LOT like Maddie... especially in the face. And I mean A LOT . I did a double take, lol, it gave me chills when I was looking at her pictures in my baby book.
In this (full) picture, my Grandma is holding me and I am probably around 6mos old...
and from what my Mom tells me, Maddie is very much like Buffy in temperament. Of course, Maddie has had a lot more training and knows a lot of tricks and stuff like that, but Buffy was really well behaved... She didn't need to know commands or what not to understand what they wanted. And in some ways, Maddie is a lot like that, too. It's like she understands english, lol

In my childhood we also had a shar pei, GSD fosters, bealges, but another one stuck out to me... because we were so close, and I litterally feel like I grew up with this dog. And I practically did, we got Nikki when I was around 4ish (after Buffy passed) and I was 17, going into my senior year of high school when we had to help her cross the bridge :(

Nikki ♥

My first family dog was a rescue GSD Mix named Midnight. She had the perfect shepherd temperament. Loyal and very protective but bullet proof with children. She went everywhere with us and I remember feeling so safe having her around. She always checked on each of us kids before she went to sleep at night

The first dog that was mine was Beau the GIGANTIC collie. He really made me fall head over heals for the breed. He was such a sweetheart, so laid back and loving.

He was obsessed with rolling in the leaves from the willow trees after being groomed

My first dog was an English Springer Spaniel named Buddy that my parents had before I was born. He was my dad's hunting dog, but quickly became my best friend whether he liked it or not (mostly not, as you can see from this pic lol) He was such a good dog and put up with alot from me. I am an only child so he was a great friend. I was -around 8 yrs old when we had to put him down.

Well I have not gotten my OWN dog yet, but our first family dog was Max.
Max was a Shar-Pei mix, maybe with great dane, lab, or pit bull. He rocked.

ETA: Didn't realize this was old and I'd already posted in it...twice lol. But the other pics disappeared, so yay pics!!

No matter how much I wanted a dog--and I did, right from earliest childhood--I always lived with people who did NOT. After getting divorced, I finally got a beautiful, brilliant, totally lovable Sheltie girl. Shiloh deserved an owner 10x better than I was, but dumb as I was about dog care, she could never have been more loved. We loved each other for 15 years. Letting her go was one of the hardest things I've ever done.

I'm glad this thread got bumped up!

Shelties are such special dogs. <3 I miss my guys so much. I miss having a sensible dog around. My shelties had such a soft wisdom about them that the papillons totally lack. :rofl1:

Nikki was really 'MY' first dog:

1 year

12.5 years

Summer is the first dog I was totally responsible for.

I love my little blonde girl.

We never had dogs while I was growing up. So Tiffany is my first dog.

My grandma had a Westie though, and I loved playing with her whenever I was at her house.

As a kid the first dog that was "mine" was a Sheltie/Corgi cross. We had dogs before her but she was mine. My mom got her from one of her coworkers who wanted to get rid of her. Little did we know she was already pregnant with 5 puppies (black lab). We found homes for the puppies and had her spayed ASAP! She was my 4-H dog and I won a lot of ribbons with that smart little dog.

My first dog as an adult was a merle Dane named Willow. She was a rehome too. A lady in a trailer park found out they had implemented a weight restriction. She was 3 months old at the time. She got me hooked on the Danes and we have 4 in our house right now  One should be going to his new adoptive home today.

My first dog by myself is technically Nia. I must say I'm proud of my research skills LOL because she's just absolutely perfect for my needs. Can't think of a better breed.

Our first family dog is Truffles. She's such a sweetie and really made me fall in love with Cavs too. However, I've always been obsessed with dogs so I don't think either of them is the reason why I love dogs.
