Do you still want one?

I wanted a collie so so soooo bad as a younger kid. My parents only wanted small dogs so hence... shelties. :p

When I was junior high-ish through beginning of college, I really wanted an Ibizan hound. I thought they were the prettiest dogs in the world. I was sure that would be 'my breed' (hahahahaha)

Nowadays I realize I'd be a very bad fit for an Ibizan. I think I'd be ok with a collie but have no desire at all for one.

GSD. My family friend was a narcotics police officer and worked with a GSD officer. They went to work together, they came home together and he kept Kip when the dog had to retire. He was an amazing dig and I loved his looks. I also had a BCxLab as a kid that looked pretty lab-ish so I thought I wanted a Lab too.

Now... Lab = no. Just not right for me. GSD probably not. I have too many other wants, although I love the ones I've met.

Australian Shepherd. I saw them on an episode of That's my Baby and decided I wanted them. The dogs in the episode competed in agility which I thought was awesome but they described them as more goofy than border collies which I liked the sound of. Plus they were pretty.

Nowadays I do not want them. I'm not sure I could deal with a herder (I've had enough of reactive dogs), plus they have more hair than I really want. They likely wouldn't be the worst fit but I just don't have any interest in them anymore.

German Shepherds. I loved them. My dad, however, did not. I had a whole bunch of stuffed animal GSDs though and my favourite was a giant one I got for Christmas one year. I still like the idea of the breed a lot but I personally have only met three nice ones (not anxious, not extremely reactive or aggressive) in real life as an adult. They seem very hit and miss around here, plus they're larger than my ideal dog now and the potential for health problems scare me.

I also loved Dalmatians, and not because of the movie. We had one when I was a kid as well. She was wonderful. Sometimes i think I'd like another someday.

Aussies were also one of my favourites. But I wasn't allowed to have one so found Tollers instead. And obviously I still like them enough to own one haha.

I also went through a Border Collie stage. But I don't think I'd seek one out now. Too introverted or something and just not my type of dog anymore, although I do like individuals of the breed.

I don't think my breed preferences have changed that much over the years, oddly.

Collie strictly because of lassie!

But I also wanted a pet dolphin in my grandmas pool because of Flipper lol.

I told everyone I was getting a wolf,No hybrid for me.

I'm sure if I could find my writings from when I was little I could tell you a million breeds I wanted on any given day. I know it all said I will have a farm with Arabians. Cuz what other type of horse is there?! And now I have all stock breeds ;)

And no collie or wolf for me. I am for the most part all doberman. I can see me getting a LGD and maybe something like a frenchie or a schnauzer. Who knows!

I wanted a Cocker Spaniel and I wanted to name her Lady (wonder where I got that idea??? LOL). I also wanted a Husky/Malamute and have actually seriously looked in to those in the past.

I don't think I'd do badly with any of those breeds, but between Finkies and Buhunds I could be set for life.

I think the first actual breed I really wanted was a Bedlington Terrier (around 12yo?). Then after that it was a Border Collie (around 15yo). Then ACDs (16yo). And then Malinois (17-18yo).

Aussies and Border Collies were my big two. I still enjoy both breeds and will likely own both, but my interests have shifted away a bit.

As soon as I knew what a pit bull was, I wanted one. I came home from a hike a couple years ago and dad went "a guy I used to work with is in the hospital, his pit bull has been in a crate for a year - want a foster project?". Obviously the answer was yes, and she's a trainwreck so nobody wanted her. The intent really was to place her, she isn't a great fit for our household - but we love her, so we make it work. Not like we had too many other options.

I have/had wanted border collies for forever! In the end, I found that the ones I met were too timid, and the culture surrounding them really turned me off. After that I was a GSD person (by that time at 15/16 I had Mammoth)

I wanted an Australian Shepherd for a while --- mostly because of looks though. I also really wanted a Dalmatian, again because of the movie lol.

I got my German Shepherd that I had wanted too at 10 years old.

I used to watch Balto all the time as a kid so I wanted a wolf hybrid for probably 6-7 years. Of course, I never got one and can't imagine owning one now.

The 2nd breed I wanted was a GSD because I wanted a big wolfy dog and I had never heard of huskies or Malamutes. :rofl1:

I never focused on breeds, more on individual dogs that I would imagine. Same with horses, I typically dreamed of a tall bay horse with a white star and white socks. Breed was less important lol.

Rottie, Dobe, Boxer, dogs like that. I've always liked strong dogs. I still do want a Dobe and Boxer, but perhaps not a Rottie- I mean, I still like the breed, but I don't want one for now. Maybe someday. I met one when camping at Jelly Stone once, and thought he was the coolest dog (my parents were those parents, telling me to stay away from the dog, but I asked the owner if he was friendly and if I could pet him, and we [the owner and I] had the longest conversation ever, lol).

I've also always liked JRTs ever since my cousin got her JRT, Patch (or Jack, as I usually call him- my grandparents renamed him when they had him for a bit), even though my dad has HATED them for some reason. Sighthounds, too- I don't remember when I first saw or wanted a Whippet or Greyhound, but I know I've wanted one ever since.

I think Buddy fixed my want for hounds. I wanted a Beagle after reading Shiloh, but I definately do not want one at all anymore. Cool dogs, cute, but not my type.

First it was a beagle, then an Aussie, then a border collie. My tastes have definitely changed since then. :p

My dad had a dog breed book that had a ton if dog breeds, colored pictures, and info on them. When my brother and I were little, we always wanted a Chinese Crested. So we could have a naked dog. LOL

As I got older, I always thought I wanted a Bulldog or Neapolitan Mastiff. Any if the mastiff breeds, really.

As I hit older teens, I pretty much decided to stick with Retrievers. Maybe a Rottie at some point, maybe a mastiff type down the road, but always a retriever.
