One of my New Years resolutions is to train more. After seeing how non-reactive to dogs Tucker was at the vets office I'm going to see if the local pet store/training place will allow him into any classes, but I'm also going to do more training at home, too. The prospect of being able to work with him around other people is very motivating!

So I wanted to revive the What are you Working on? threads but the last one was already quite long and hasn't had a recent response. So here is a new one for this coming year.

So how about it, what behaviors are you working on with your dogs?

Right now Tucker and I are working on "Pick up your toys", so putting several toys into his toy box. He understands where he must put the toys but is having the hardest time going and getting them. When I first put the toys down he immediately grabs one and puts it in the box but then gets stuck on that toy. He drops it in then picks it back up and drops it back in or drops it on the floor and then picks it back up and puts it back in. If I wait him out he usually gives up and lies down. I don't want to keep going this route as he loses his enthusiasm for the game, plus it means I'm ignoring some really awesome putting of toys in the box (with accuracy and enthusiasm)-it's just the same toy over and over. If I cue him to go get a toy with a hand signal he does much better, so for right now I think I'm just going to do that. Eventually I'd like him to pick up all of the toys with a single cue though, so I'm hoping he'll figure out the pattern so I don't have to keep telling him to get each toy.

My goals right now for Cricket for 2016 is to finish her RN already and move up to the next class in rally. I would also like to try and go for a CD in Obedience. We've also been training to compete in agility (jumpers with weaves), but she's recovering from an injury right now so not sure when we will get the go ahead from the vet to continue training. I'm also going to work towards her championship points in WCRL for her RL1 as well as move her up to the Level 2 class.

Joey- might fart around with him in some rally this year and maybe obedience.

Bamm- he's living his glorified senior years now. I work on impulse control stuff with him sometimes and I might work with him on some tricks this year. Right now we are working on a backwards crawl. I really want actually start swimming him more this year as well.

Well 2015 kinda blew up in my face and everything I had *hoped* to work on did not come to fruition.

For 2016, I'm mostly just going to try to get back to what I wanted to do in 2015. There is a new disc club starting up in my area, it's about an hour away but the closest one to me. I'm going to stop by their first meeting and see what it's all about, if it's what I'm wanting then I'll likely join.

I'm hoping we can be back in structured classes by spring, I just moved and will be starting my first career position in a few weeks... So hopefully the dust settles soon and we can get back into a routine.

And that's were I'm leaving things for right now. If I start stacking on too many goals I get overwhelmed. Haha.

It's pretty much all agility here, and trying to find ways through Gusto's stress issues. It's hard to judge where we are at without trialing, but my plan is to sort of see where we are through early June (so that gives me four trials at four sites, two indoors and two outdoors) and sort of re-evaluate our plans from there. We've got fabulous instruction finally, and his skills are excellent, as long as he'll go in the ring and run. I'm moderately optimistic.

Outside of agility, I really would like to teach him to hold objects in his mouth. It's kind of my unofficial goal for winter indoor training. I've had zero success in the time I've worked on it over the years. We'll see. We don't need it for anything other than a new thing to build tricks off.

Meg has no rules and no goals and gets to do whatever her little heart desires, because she is Meg. She was horrible and wild and naughty and hysterical and jumped every single dog walk contact in the last 9 times I ran her in standard, so she's retired from that class and will do jumpers and snooker for as long as she wants.

Not much. For Sawyer just disc stuff since he'll be able to like, compete at a competitive level this summer (vs his participation in previous comps which were just look at this cute baby puppy chase a frisbee lol). Also would like to get a pretty, real heel from him. And a CGC which he could easily do if he toned down his excitement for meeting people.

Juno just gets to be Juno lol.

Kinda hoping Hank grows a brain this year. Probably won't do too much agility-trial-wise yet. Just need some work on the brain and getting us in sync. when he gets going at this point, I'm screwed because he's so flipping fast and also I have to work hard to keep him engaged. Last show and go we ended up just doing donuts because I couldn't let him go or he'd disengage but I also couldn't keep up to handle him...

If my work situation evens out I'll be starting puppy hunting probably at the end of the year.

Wilson is going to start trialing in agility in January so were gonna see where that goes. I have high hopes that his love for the game will trump the stress of being around strangers and hopefully this might even transfer over to real life situations and give him some more confidence. The last few practices we've had I feel like we've really been coming together and starting to connect and communicate as a team and I'm really excited about it.

Of course always continuing our work with stranger danger and confidence in new situations. I'm hoping to meet with a vet behaviorist to come up with a more structured plan soon.

We are also going for our trick dog titles, he's ready for novice and I think almost ready for intermediate. I'm hoping to get all the way to expert by the end of the year. Just gonna continue to work on shaping and having fun with random dumb tricks :)

Sam is pretty much retired from agility but I am hoping to get him into nosework and mayyyybe rally-o if I feel like it (it just seems kinda...boring to me compared to agility)

Also might go for his novice trick dog title and see how that goes. Sam doesn't learn by shaping very well but we'll see how far we can get with luring with him. Maybe it'll motivate me to work with him some more.

An agility title on Payton would be nice.
Any. Agility title.
Even a FAST title.
Sigh.

I don't know. I'd love to get her ARCH and RL3 but we have a lot of jump work to do in the meantime then. She has one Q for her BN so we should try to finish that. We will keep playing in Veterans no matter what!

Glitch will start agility and dock diving, as well as earn his CGC. By the end of the year he will have a walking handstand, be able to walk a ball across the room, and paint his name at an easel (what can I say, I dream big :rofl1:), as well as any other tricks I think up.

Gimmick: Will continue being a sock. He will work on some obedience, and perfect his cuddling skills.

Gambit: Will finally gain that 5 pounds so he will quit looking like I starve him. We will continue to work on not growling at the neighbors.

Continue to love and appreciate the time I spend with my dogs.

As for training goals, I'm not really setting any. Just keep having fun. Maybe I'll actually trial with Em this year

Too much, is the real answer :yikes:

For the whippet:
Try out barnhunt (not entirely committed and won't be broken hearted if she doesn't do well, but it'd be fun to try)
Start dock diving practice in April
Get her feet wet with racing - just bring her out a few times and put some foundations on her
Lay the foundations in agility as well, as many private lessons as I can afford
Get at least her novice trick dog title

For the Pei-face:
As always, work on his reactivity and resource guarding (will be a lifetime thing but we've seen such good progress over the past few months)
Get his intermediate and advanced trick dog titles
Teach him at least one "concept" training item - counting, do as I do, matching objects, etc. I think he'd be amazing at it, he's really blossomed into a lovely dog to work with and he puts things together amazingly well
