Kharma would steal Shiva's hat and hide it.
Bimmer would look very agrieved at me for compromising his masculine dignity.
I'm going to get a nice knuckle bone for our neighbor Herbie's 8 month old Lab pup, Chester. And a bag of good treats. He's the sweetest pup; he adores Bimmer and follows him everywhere, plays with Shiva and Kharma, which takes a lot of bravery considering he's not half their size, and if he's home always runs out to the side of the driveway to greet me when I come home. The poor baby got into the electric fence the other day and is afraid to come any closer than the front pasture right now.
We've also got to get something for Herbie. Shiva has been, well . . . Shiva this summer. I just found out the other day that she'd gotten up in his boat and stolen all his life preservers, and some of you have read the story of Shiva and Herbie's chicken dinner, Shiva and Kharma and Stanley (the previous Lab puppy that someone took when Herbie took him to Indiana with him) and the ransacking of the mobile home. Herbie laughs until he's got tears running down his face when he tells anyone about it, but I think he deserves at least a nice big bottle of good bourbon.

Yesterday I made my annual home-made dog biscuits for my 2 dogs as well as my stepson's puppy.
Renee, I love the stories of your 2 girls. We thought of getting a fila but kept getting steered away from the breed so we got our anatolian. After reading all your posts, we'd love to have a fila one day. Are they as wonderful a dog as they sound?

Barb, I love these dogs. I never want to be without a German Shepherd, but now I never want to be without a Fila either.
That said, Shiva is very atypical. I tell everyone who meets her and gets smitten that she may very well be the friendliest Fila ever to walk the face of the earth. We don't know if she has the typical breed aversion to strangers - she's yet to meet a stranger. Her philosophy is "there are no strangers here, only people who haven't had a chance to fondle me."
If you can handle an Anatolian, a Fila shouldn't be too much for you. There is a thread in the Breed forum where I was asked about their aggression that will give you a good first-hand idea of what to expect from a typical Fila. I'll also warn you that these dogs are mule-headed (with apologies to mules everywhere). They are obsessive - and Shiva's also compulsive; what a combination! They are, well, they're just Filas: over-the-top, excessive, obsessive and addicting. I love putting my hand out, no matter where I am at home - in the pasture, walking down the drive, it doesn't matter, and having a big head immediately insinuate itself under my hand and a big snout snuffle at my side. And those big eyes so eloquently expressing, "I'm here with you."

I should add, Barb, that many of the dogs with show lines, particularly imports from Brazil, are having their temperaments bred down. That's what happened to Shiva. Her mother was totally unprepossessing (truthfully, I would never have bred her) but her father was an imported show dog. Shiva's ended up being a gorgeous physical creature, clever and intelligent with some truly spectacular qualities, but her temperament is very soft - which is, on one hand, very endearing but not breed representative. I've been advised that by breeding her to an extremely hard male I should come out with some pups that have very good Fila temperament without being crazy-hard. Her litter will also probably be the one my parents get a pup from.
Kharma is mainly from working lines, and although she behaves beautifully and I can trust her implicitly when I take her out, she is definitely harder edged than Shiva.
Their typical non-aggression toward other dogs is a big plus. They actually tend to work together (i.e. one will go investigate and the other will guard the door).
