I've been feeding 4health Grain-Free Duck and Potato for almost 2 yearish now. Outlaw does amazing on it, he has a very sensitive stomach and will puke on most other foods. I have tried other flavors of 4health and tried Victor and Abound as well. But he coat lost it's shine and became almost brittle. He puked a lot on those foods and was miserable on them.
Diego has been eating mostly 4 health GF canned food during his MMM troubles. $1.19 for a large can. He eats it well, digests it well, and I can't argue with the price. I have even been using their cat cans for my cats. Because again, I can't argue with the price.

Yuck the only way I would feed pro plan or anything from purina, is if it was the zombie apocalypse and I was breaking in to steal food for my dog and it was the only thing on the shelf.
For what reason? Because there is corn and other "horrible" grains instead of rice, peas and potatoes? Because it is a "big food" company, and thus actually runs feeding trials on their foods to scientifically prove their nutritional content and the claims they make about it? Because they use by products (which my "prey model raw" fed barn cats consume every day)? Or is it because your dogs do poorly on thie food and/or you have seen numerous dogs with evidence of poor nutrition because of it?

My dogs do amazing on this food and I am 100% comfortable with my choice to feed it. I even *gasp* recommend it to other people. Now, I don't recommend ALL foods by Purina (Beneful or Alpo, for example....blech - and funnily enough, those foods aren't feeding trial tested...imagine that), but Pro Plan I have no issue standing behind.

I wouldn't feed proplan just because I don't want to feed my dog a lot of rice and corn. However this looks a lot better than when I last looked at it.
https://www.proplan.com/dogs/produc...818-formula/#ingredientsandguaranteedanalysis

Chicken, Brewer's rice, Poultry by-product meal (natural source of glucosamine), Corn gluten meal, Whole grain wheat, Animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), Whole grain corn, Corn germ meal, Brewer's dried yeast, Fish meal (natural source of glucosamine), Animal digest, Fish oil, Dried egg product, Wheat bran, Calcium phosphate, Salt, Potassium chloride, Vitamin E supplement, Choline chloride, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of Vitamin C), Zinc sulfate, Ferrous sulfate, L-Lysine monohydrochloride, Manganese sulfate, Niacin, Calcium carbonate, Vitamin A supplement, Calcium pantothenate, Thiamine mononitrate, Copper sulfate, Riboflavin supplement, Vitamin B-12 supplement, Pyridoxine hydrochloride, Garlic oil, Folic acid, Vitamin D-3 supplement, Calcium iodate, Biotin, Menadione sodium bisulfite complex (source of Vitamin K activity), and Sodium selenite

Actual decent protein levels (28%). Too much grain and would cause Dekka to puke all over the place so even if I was ok with that much grain I couldn't do it.

This is the ingredients of what she is getting now:

FRESH REGIONAL INGREDIENTS

Angus beef (ground with bone)*, wild boar (ground with bone) *, lamb (ground with bone) *, whole herring*, bison (ground with bone) *, beef liver*, spinach greens*, pea fiber, lamb liver*, pork*, pork liver*, beef heart*, lamb heart*, beef tripe*, whole salmon*, sunflower seeds, pumpkin*, Butternut squash*, Imperator carrots*, cranberries*, blackberries*, blueberries*, Red Delicious apples*, Bartlett pears*, Red Heart plums*, Tilton apricots*, brown kelp*, mixed tocopherols, chicory root, dandelion root, summer savory, peppermint leaf*, ginger root*.

* FRESH AND PRESERVATIVE-FREE

Dry its 36% natural sourced protein. Reconstituted its about 15% which is on par with raw.

They have a mix of Pacifica, Grasslands, Go Venison, Go Chicken, Go Lamb, Now Adult Small Breed, and Now Adult regular bite (all the petcurean is free samples from nationals lol had about 25lbs of it)

On top of that they get raw bones and chicken necks etc.

ETA: Also got a free bag of Orijen Freeze Dried.

FWIW (not that I have a whole lot of faith left in your ability to learn), I saw no change moving Skill from Pro Plan 30/20 to Acana Pacifica. Which a couple years ago, I would have thought they were super opposite ends of the spectrum food wise. I thought his poops would get smaller and less smelly (they didn't), I thought his coat would get shinier or softer (it didn't), I thought he would have more energy (he doesn't). Literally nothing has changed. If I quit C&D, he will be going back onto Pro Plan and I won't lose a second of sleep over it.

It amazes me that so many dogs do well on proplan, because that's the one food every dog I've owned has done poorly on. Even the dogs that came eating beneful/pedigree looked and smelled nasty on proplan. Weird.

The little men are currently raw fed, though Gimmick spends a significant part of his day scheming to get to his lover Science Diet. He's like an addict

Raw... and the almighty evil Pro Plan. I too see no difference in my dogs when I switch between raw and PP. They all do fantastic on both. *shrug*

I've heard great things about pro plan. I wouldn't feed ot because our awesome local pet store doesn't carry it and I like supporting them. But if I had to buy at a place that carried it I'd totally consider feeding it.

Cajun does great on pro plan. All the thyroid testing I did on her because her skin/coat was crap.... yeah not a problem since being on pro plan.

I think I'll always feel weird buying it, but meh, not gonna deny what works. Blue Buffalo is also a dirty phrase but my dogs do just fine on it so... :)

Hank does better on purina (though it was usually sport or beyond) than most foods. But I'm finding he does absolute best with at least 50% NRG or THK type stuff + Merrick. I'm hoping Merrick's formula doesn't change since they got bought.

But now poor Mia is getting fat on this. Not sure what my plan is with her since she can't really exercise.

Baby Payton came to me eating ProPlan and his skin was flakey and his coat was weird, almost dry but also greasy? Not sure how to explain it, it just felt weird. A week on TOTW and a good bath changed the coat, took a little bit longer for the skin to stop being flakey. I have looked at their sport mixes but I don't think I really want to try putting him on it again. Most grain inclusive foods are simply too low protein for what my boys need. But then again, probably 85% of foods in general are too low protein for what I want, so...

Right now they are on Earthborn Holistics and I love them on it. It doesn't seem to have made a difference for Georgie but Payton and Auggie have both gotten more dense muscle, which for Auggie is saying something as he is retired and works even less than G. Payton looks fantastic on it. I think it's too high protein for the Dagger Baby so we may have two foods for a while, haven't decided yet and still have a bit to make up my mind.

I didn't dislike TOTW but I was looking for a bit of an upgrade. The Earthborn primitive naturals variety is 38% protein and only $5 more per bag. Done and done.

Currently he's on Diamond Extreme Athlete and has been for a while but after this bag I think we're going to try switching to NutriSource Super Performance and give that a go. Extreme Athlete meets his needs better than the other foods I've tried so far, by far, but he has occasional diarrhea (which he doesn't seem overly bothered by... several times it's been a distraction on the field during training though and that's getting old) and his coat isn't quite where I'd like it to be. I've heard good things re: NutriSource for both of those issues. It's not too steep a price increase for me to handle right now so we'll see.

Both of my two are on Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream and doing great on it. We've discussed changing it up now and then, but haven't thus far. Thankfully both of the boys have sturdy stomachs. Well, except for the time that Mo got into a roast pig skin and BF bought them smoked bones from the grocery store. That was awful...

Riff and Stitch were eating Pro Plan for a bit and the only complaint I have with it is that they both needed to eat more on it than on other foods. Coats/energy/etc were just fine. My mom's dog has been on Pro Plan for a while and does great on it.

I'm thinking about switching everyone onto 4Health. I fed it briefly a while back and liked it, but I have to drive quite a ways to get it. Still, even factoring in gas money, it'd be a bit cheaper than TOTW, and money is a factor right now. We'll see!

My dogs flat out will not eat a low end food, and I had nothing but skin and digestive problems back when I fed purina.

I've been feeding TOTW. Just started on Earthborne. Thinking of going raw but still in research mode.
EB is a good food but its expensive down here, I am on pro pac now but I dont like how my dog's coat looks on it and how dry his skin is. So after this is done (the only bad thing about having dogs who dont eat a lot is I have to wait so long to switch hahaha).

Next up for is is going to be holistic select, I think, than, if something goes off with that, Victor.

Can't even remember if I responded to this lol

I feed wellness core to everyone but I would like to find a cheaper option with three dogs now.

I stopped feeding the diamond naturals when my iron stomach dog was having issues and am just scared to do it again. Not sure where to go next really? I am doing chewies automatic order now which saves a little.

Couldn't hurt to try 4health.
