That really hits home....
My husband is a Corporal for a Local Sheriff Dept.
And our dog Rocket is his K9 partner.
I worry about both of them alot, but they both are doing what they
love, neither of them would change a thing..........
Keep them all in your prayers....

I for sure will always pray for your husband and his partner Rocket. My uncle was part of the Perth Ontario Canada Provincial K-9 detachment and his partner was Yukon[my dogs grandfather] and in a freak accident my uncle was killed and Yukon died 3 weeks later of unknown causes. Broken heart maybe! I have the only existing male that is not neutered yet of Yukon. That is why he was named that after his grandpa and to honour his name, I hope. That is also why so many police officers have asked me actually begged me to breed. Oh well it is so sad and I feel for all of the officers and their families every day. Julie I will pray for you promise every night.

I really want to do something about this. How much does each vest cost? I'm only 13 but I really want to help those dogs.

skyhigh,
You really seem grown up at 13 to even think of a vest.
Rocket does not have one yet, so I am not sure of the cost.
It sounds like a great idea brewing in your head, though.

Rocket just started patrol about 3 months ago, she is a well rounded great dog and she is only 15 months old now. And she is certified in tracking, apprehension, and narcotic detection (when she was 12 months old). So she is doing great, and has already taken a good quantity of drugs off the street.

And she has the best personality ever.....

Best Wishes,
Julie.

Cool. I really want to help them. Because it is OUR lives they're saving. I havn't really heard of vests here in Australia. Is it like a kind of bullet-proof vest? I might e-mail a police canine unit in my area. See what they think. I originally wanted to become a canine officer when I'm older. Thats great Julie. Rocket must be a great dog. Is Rocket in your siggy? Which one?

Rocket is the German Shepherd on the one picture. Well two images but they are the same dog.

The labs are our hunting/companion dogs.

Although they ALL are our "companion dogs" tooo.

Try living in a house with 3 dogs, 3 kids, and a husband...... LOL

Try living in a house with two dogs, a bird, three brothers and two parents. LOL. hehe. Are you getting a vest for Rocket? Do you need some moeny? Because I just went on a site and they said they need another dog to raise money to get a vest for. If that makes sense. LOL

Well, I wish you the best of luck.
They just hired the first female deputy at my husbands department (ever).

And a woman that my husband went to the academy with graduated at the top of the class!!!

You will have great opportunity to excel as a woman in the law enforcement field.

The thing is, the pay stinks. Risk your life and try to help society, and you get a little bit of squat.

But it can lead to better things, if you have the ambition.

I just read through a nice looong list of things i need to have and be able to do. Most of it is fine but the pay is only $40,000. I think thats right. Thats after you've been there for a year. I wouldn't mind becoming a vet either. hmmm. lol

Someone posted a site to start your own branch or something to collect money for K-9 Cops
If you posted this, could you please post the link again?
Thanks

I still remember when Fred House was shot and killed. It was during a standoff with the Swapp clan here in Utah They were this fundamentalist group who didnt think they needed to obey the law. Anyhow they had the house surrounded and the standoff went on for days (this group was responsible for bombing a LDS church in Marion Utah) Fred House and his K9 were going in and he was shot. There is a academy named after him for his heroic efforts and duties.
