I am noticing a lot of things people are posting and they are all turing out in arguments.Do you think we should have a debate forum?

No. There are plenty of other "bitch forums" out there. I would rather see this stay wholesome and about dogs and such...

No, I'm not interested in a debate forum. It's fine if debates come up as long as they are handly maturely but we don't need a place just for them where people will go looking to start arguments.

I left this site about 5-6 days ago... I felt it was not for me. NO, it's not a bad site, just not my "style." The only reason I have posted tonight is because I was personally e-mailed and wanted to answer, which I did. Then I got curious, and checked my "account" which I had 2 pm's..... which I would have never seen unless I signed back on. SOOOOO, started checking out threads... I have seen the debate forum too. I also agreeded with it....at first. The basic problem here is, all of us come from different backgrounds, with different ideas and morals. THIS IS NOT a ONE TYPE BREED, or training, or pet sitting, or etc.....so therefore, I believe a debate is a waste of time. Therefore, there is no real common ground to stand on. This is not a SPECIFIC forum, so there are many pet owners, breeders, newbies, training, etc... there is no way to find that common ground, just arguments from everyones point of view. What's the point, I doubt anything will really be solved. Just my two cents.

I wouldn't mind a debate forum, but all the mods seem to be against it... therefore, my opinion doesn't really matter! lol!

Nah...I was for the idea initially, the decided against it. It would probably end up being a very venomous forum and attract more trolls than we need. So either it would have to be merit-based membership type of place...but then we run into the problem of what gets a person in and what keeps a person out?

So, let's not. Let's just keep the debates in the Fire Hydrant civil and relevant.

Why would you say that?

Honestly, if you are all dog lovers...what's the debate. Instead of deabating and fighting, which is very common here, which you can tell because the debating and fighting issuses have more posts than others..(just look). Why don't we learn and live through each others experiences. It isn't until someone posts a negative or viotile thread is when everyone is "ON BOARD.".

This is to ask the opinions of members.... I personally feel if we had a separate forum for debates it would only stir up a bunch of worms. Why not keep them in the Fire Hydrant ?? I personally wouldn't want to be a mod there !

I agree... But I will also be the first one in line to have my say. I think there should be a more docile forum here, from what I have seen. Just look at the threads, it's all about fights.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good fight...or debate, it calms my nerves. But it's not really productive.. and I will be the first one to admit I am wrong about shooting off my mouth, but there are others who also thrive in it.

I DON'T want to thrive in it, I would rather see an educational purpose to this forum, and lesss debates or fights.

Again, so few of us are on the "same page," we all have different agendas and ideas, so to be honest, the "one in charge" here, will never have perfect harmony in this forum. In my pet sitting forum, we have about 99% perfect harmony and that is only because we are all common ground. This site is way too spread out to have that type of a percentage. If you will, have debate forum, it will be popular, prob. more pop. than most. That's human nature, but it will take away from the dog issues.

Animalbiz, you are quite new here and maybe don't have the same 'feel' for this forum as other people. We think of eachother as family and except for a few members are able to discuss sensitive matters quite reasonably.

There have been many, many members here who have been able to help other members. I think it's always been about that.

I don't think a debate forum would change that. I know it wouldn't change our members who are able to debate without making it personal, however, I am concerned about the type of members it will attract. I suppose that's the main reason that I'm against it.

I know where Animal is coming from...and Saje I agree with you. I feel this forum has changed since I first joined and there's a lot I just by pass today. I have areas of my interest and to mod...which are becoming very time consuming. I see no reason for a debate unless it's a dog issue....and these can be covered within it's own thread. As to which gum do you prefer.....stick it in the fire hydrant or somewhere else !
