Saji... you already have it out for me....regarless, I respect your views,,,,Kinda. I have seen many "members" attack people for their polls and etc...

So, then have your "debate" issue. You know, you have seen responses, some are not productive to what you "people" are striving for. Well, I hope at least not. Nothing against you, but maybe we are just "different breed."

Again, I thought this was a dog forum.... to learn and strive to be the best.. not fights and debates. Debates are going to happen anyway.... but I wouldn't promote it.

I do not "have it out for you." Just because I try and explain something to you doesn't mean I "have it out for you."

I'm saying that I don't think we shouldn't have a debate forum. Where is the disagreement?

Let's see, registrations are up, traffic is up, user activity is steady, post and thread numbers are steady... we are still one of the fastest growing dog forums on the internet so we must be doing something right. It's all viral as we don't pay for advertising being a personal homepage.

A debate forum would just take away the debates from the other dog related forums. I rarely read the posts in the Fire Hydrant myself unless I am summoned to break up a fight...

I vote no. Whats a forum without debate? And besides, who would intentionally go to a section of a forum looking for an arguement?

Chaz... stick to your guns !! This is a dog forum and with your fire hydrant you've provided an area for any other topics. I too, rarely go there unless I see something that hits me. This is your forum . Why have a new area to draw out debates unrelated to what you have created., A Dog forum . Why not just put this thread to rest ....It's your call.

I actually find it amusing how much people get offended on this forum. No offense, but this is one of the tamest and most politically correct forums I've EVER been on. You should go visit a few other forums, i.e. a ski forum I'm on and a car forum, then come back here and you'll see how mellow you all are. ;) Then maybe you'd all realize how chill you have it and chill out a bit. :)
Cheers!

When I first joined a forum that had a debate thread I thought it would be great. After being a member there and here for a while I never go there anymore and I am still here. I think a debate forum is unnecessary and I would never go to a debate thread at all.

I totally agree. Besides, from what I've noticed a lot of the "debates" stem from a thread that isn't started as a "debate", they just evolve. At least the way this board's set up, if it's a debate about Dog Health, it stays in Dog Health. So debates more or less stay in their relevant forum.

I think a debate forum would be good because lately there have been a ton of debates and it's really annoying to see them all in the Fire Hydrant.

+1

Most of the Goalie and "War Game Freak" forums I am on get WAY more nasty than this.

If I may offer my $.02 (US) as to WHY people get so offended, so easily here is because...

1.) There are a lot of younger people here.

2.) The membership here has a higher % of females. (Read to the end of this post BEFORE you fire the +1 flamethrower of death at me.)

3.) We are DOG people.

Detail

1.) Younger people have a tendancy to get upset easily. I bet this is due to hormones in teenagers and just lack of real life experience in the even younger crowd.

2.) My wife says all the time "There is no fight like a cat fight." Women can be MEAN to each other sometimes. Often, men fight... but at the end shake hands and go to the bar for a beer. :)

3.) Dog people are generally very nice. How can we not be when no matter what, there will be at least ONE happy, wagging tail when we get home? Thus, when some toolbox (points at self) comes here and says things "out of the mainstream" for this board... Well, you can figure it out.

These are my opinions. If you disagree, please feel free to discuss.

I was insulted in one of the debates...one of the rudest insults I have gotten in my life.

Yes, girls fighting can be bad....believe me, I know. Girls just don't stop. We pick and we hold grudges, and we're just plain mean, LOL!

I like the debates where they are. (As long as they're civil.) I love a good debate as well but I don't see the need for an entire debate forum anymore - they're fine in the Fire Hydrant. If people don't want to read a debate, they can ignore the thread.

:D

There is one particular group here at work, the trainers**, who are all women. The soap opera that is that group is never ending. Of course, I go over now and then to stir the pot. (So, perhaps I am a hypocrite because I DO sometimes say things to simply stir the pot, but not here. LOL) It is almost like having a fish tank, only with people. LOL

**(I am the network nerd for the PA State Medicade system. The trainers train on the applications that let providers submit claims. )

Well, let's see....The Fire Hydrant is for non doggie related chit chat but gets filled with debatable topics. It seems inevitable. So why not put up a debate forum and that way, people who don't want to see it, respond to it etc don't have to deal with that clutter at all when going through this forum? They can just skip it altogether. Or not. I dunno...it's debatable. :D

Lol. I think no matter what is done, there will always be a debate in a heated topic. Its just the nature of the forum.

Regardless.... debates will bring a lot of people on (including me, so I have no excuse either....) Just human..... Just look what this post alone brought!? Any debate is going to bring in lots of people.... This is just the forum for it, not that it's bad, but you have a wide selection of people here. It's very broad,,,,,all across the board. Have one or not, you have people here that will start one, one way or another. Good luck, you have a lot on your hands. I mean this to be sincere.... you really have a wide range of people here, with so many different views.
