Just curious why you consider a Terrier a working breed?
i wouldnt say tht all terriers were officially a working dog but most were bred for a purpose,

e.g: border terriers were bred with a gait capable of following a horse so tht they could follow a horse on hunting trips, then they were trained to go down the hole and retrieve the prey, which could be a rabbit or a fox. There not a working breed in the sense of a border collie or a beagle but most were bred for a purpose, many dogs from working lines (like my harley) still have a very high prey dive and no fear of holes.
thats just an example of a terrier working but in the case of mach1girl i dont no how a pit bull terrier is a working breed but i no some terriers are lol

American Pitbull Terriers were bred to work, although in todays society, THAT type of "work" is out of the question. (Thank GOD) However, working the APBT is still the dogs main purpose, whether it be catch dogs, or common PPT (Which is mostly AB, but does apply to the APBT as well) to weight pull. They are a working dog,, and besides "show" they possess a tremendous amount of drive and endurance, determination, etc...............all traits of the working background from which they come from.

BESIDES~~~This thread is not about ME, it is about this chick and her puppies, and I'd appreciate it if it stayed on topic!

None of the above. Alaskan Huskies are a type of sled dog. They are not a registered breed of dog.

Well I haven't read all and this as far as I can see has gone way off topic, a dog that isn't registered is recognized as a cross! I should know I bred JRTs, here they are thought of as crosses elsewhere they are registered

I have only whelped one litter ever, that being my first and last! However, after being there from beginning to end, I would never whelp a litter outside for any reason~Ok, maybe if my house burned down. It is a long, nasty, wet process, that can get even nastier if mixed with dirt/mud/mulch/leaves/fleas, etc..
My puppy yard was concrete and shaded, with 4 foot walls on each side in addition to the chain link. Outdoor sanitation isn't that hard if you have the right setup. I raised foster litters and my mentors' litters outside and never lost one.

Well, I have lost one puppy, but not from being outside. He was limp from seizuring shortly after receiving his first vaccine, and Cornell euthanized him.

On the topic, I have his brother - Archie. Do any of you know whether or not vaccine reactions are linked to anything genetically or is it just random?

Well, if you look at it that way EVERY dog breed is a working dog. All were created for a purpose.

Where are JRT's not a breed?
Pretty much everywhere. The AKC recognizes the Parsons Russel Terrier, but not the Jack Russel Terrier, because of how varied the dogs can be. Smooth coat, broken coat, short legged, long legged...so it's still a breed, but it's not recognized. I'm still not 100% clear on the difference between the PRT and the JRT, but oh well.

Congrats on the puppies!!

OK, got some good news and bad news. First the bad news, Thursday morning one of the pups died. It was the little white one. She wasnt right from the beginning. She didnt know how to nurse, so we had to syringe feed her every 2 hours. She did go to the vet Wed, and she was dehydrated, but said her heart and lungs sounded fine. Wed. afternoon she was better. More active, was hardly dehydrated, and was looking like she would make it. Then the nite, she became lifeless again, and cold. When I went down to check on them at 7 am, she was very cold, and somewhat blue. I was able to give her about a tablespoon of forumula, and warm her up, but it wasnt enough. I also tried CPR, but again, didn't work. She died at 9:45 in my hands. The past 3 days have been quite sad and quite horrible. But in the end, it was probably for the better. "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die". Ecc. 3:1-2.

Now, the good news- I have the pictures!

I would like to add, that all other pups are doing great! They now all weigh in between 1.5-2 lbs. What should be the "normal" weight for 5 dy. old pups who will probably be about 45-50 lbs as adults? (Well, that can vary greatly, Snowy is 32 lbs, Ranger is 55, Ranger's "uncle" is over 60.)
Snowy is doing great. I am feeding her about 2.5 cups of food a day, (well, I put 3 cups in her bowl and she never eats it all, normally is fed 1 cup a day), plus 1/4 cup of broth and 1 egg, and she is actually gaining weight off of it.
Thanks again for all the help!

Hello everyone! Update on the puppies. They're now 12 days old. Thier eyes and ears are pretty much open. Like all pups, they are blue now, but I am betting that most of them will turn out brown. Blue eyes do run in thier families, so its possible some remain blue. They all weigh about 2-2.5 pounds now. Thier coats are getting longer and thicker. I'm also betting that they will probably turn out long haired and fluffy like thier dad. Some will probably have short hair though too. They are starting to learn how to stand and walk. They can get up on all 4's, and when they try and take a step, the just fall over. They kinda crawl along with thier front legs up and push off with the back legs. When they need something, they are very good at telling you! These guys will probably be loud mouths! (Then again, which huskies arent?)
Tuesday they get dewormed for the first time.
