The DH and I have been looking for a house for about 3 months now and we finally found one. We will be closing Oct 24th. Unfortunately I don't have any pics to share because my camera died about a month ago.

Now I have to decide what kind of fencing I want to put up. I am planning on splitting the yard in 2 and putting something in the part of the yard that is closest to the house that will keep the dogs from dragging in mud. The part of the yard that is closest to the house is higher than the rest of the yard, it is the top of a rock wall, that that is where I am planning on put the the fence to split. It's big enough for a small fenced in area that the dogs can do their business in when the weather is nasty.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a fence type? I am thinking as low maintenance as possible and would prefer a privacy fence of some sort around the perimeter with chain link separating the 2 areas.

Also does anyone have any suggestions for a flooring/ground covering that will allow draining but not flood in the spring. This is for the small area near the house.

The only bad part about the fence is I won't be able to have it put up until spring. I hate that the ground has to freeze every winter.

Thanks!!

ps. Mods if this is in the wrong spot please feel free to move.

Congrats on the house! We have a deck off the back living room (light colored carpeting) and the dogs were constantly bringing in dirt. I do put down towels on the carpeting to help some. We decided to buy patio blocks and make another patio below the steps to the deck which helps clean more of the dirt off before they get into the house.

You could do a chain link privacy fence by buying the one that comes with colored inserts in it.

Thanks!! How well do you think the patio blocks drain?

I have also thought about the chain link with the inserts idea. Jack's breeder uses those.

Congrats on the house! I don't really have any suggestions for you, I just have a long runner in the laundry that I have them wipe their feet on, LOL

I have already put down about 40 of them (16" x 16"). I put them down at a slight angle away from the house so water won't sit on top. Our ground here is hard like cement so I didn't use a base underneath. Some people will dig out dirt, put a base of stones, then sand & then lay the patio blocks on top so water can drain underneath.
