Don't stress :) stress has been proven to lead to weight gain.

First off, I am a HUGE proponent of first finding the lifestyle changes that fit YOU. These are different for everyone. If you have eating disorder tendencies...will you benefit more or less from counting calories or a weight watchers-type program??? It may help to use a program like that to make sure you aren;t under-eating...but assess yourself & decide from there. Like someone mentioned, undereating is just gonna slow your metabolism down & make your body store everything like crazy.

What kind of exercise do you like? Do you have comcast or cable on-demand? If so, exercise tv is practically the most amazing thing ever invented...tons of good workouts that you can do in your living room (if you like harder-core workouts, I'll tell ya which ones I do!)

someone mentioned spark people...its an awesome free website. Has free calorie counters & a forum.

As for healthy meals...veggies & chicken are a great way to go. When you use sauces, make sure you are looking at the calories!!! Same goes for dressings - however, you should be getting 20-30% of fat from your diet, so I like using healthy oils as dressings.

Do you eat breakfast? If you eat cereal - examine the sugar content...if its more than 5g, I say ditch it. High protein, high fiber is best. Just make sure you look at serving size, cause granola is like a freakin teaspoon and 300 cals (ok, exaggerating...) My usual breakfast is plain yogurt w/some jam (to control the sugar) & fruit & cereal to top it off.

I could go on for like hours, so yahh, i'll stop now...but you will be just fine :) You say your tummy is still flat, so dont try to lose that much in a month...you'll only set yourself up for future failure. Seriously girl, you're gorgeous...everything will be just fine :)

Fran, all I can say is that from the pic I saw in the Halloween thread any guy would be singing praises and and dancing on things that shouldn't be danced on to get a date with you.

And as a guy, if you ever come to CO to visit Zoom... if I can steal you for an evening there may be terrible dancing and singing. If you're lucky, it won't be where you can see/hear it ;)

Well first off 26 pounds in one month isn't realistic at all. It's generally about 2 pounds per week, so 8 pounds a month and thus 3 months at the least.

That said, humans also put on 'winter-weight' and also if you have been figure skating and what not, then you've put on muscle and If I recall correctly muscle weighs 1.6x more than fat.
Muscle does weigh significantly more than fat. How do your clothes fit? Check your measurements. That's the best way to keep tabs.

While you're home, take some long walks with Kenya. :)
Muscle does NOT weigh more than fat. Muscle is denser than fat, so a pound of muscle is SMALLER than a pound of fat.

Human's DO NOT put on Winter Weight...lol If you're eating more than the cals you're putting out (exercise), you're going to gain no matter what season.

Check out Nutrition, Health & Fitness, Weight Loss, Diet - Weight Loss Forum & Another Diet Blog – Healthy Weight Loss and Maintenance Read the stickies they're full of VALUABLE straight to the point info on Healthy ways to lose weight.

This is me: I look better with 3 pounds more muscle...it's only 3 pounds, fat's not going to change your body that much, muscle will. ;)

Check out this thread too, if you'd like:

120 lbs C.L.U.B. - Page 3 - Weight Loss Forum

I also like to use thedailyplate & fitday to check cals & my macronutrients.

I started running back in March of this year, running has really helped me. I've lost 42 pounds & have been maintaining since this past Summer, it is Winter here & the only WEIGHT I've gained is water weight due to *binges*. It always goes down after a few days. I was only chubby for 3-4 years of my life, I fought that battle & WON IT! I am sure you can too!!! :)

Also try not to compare yourself too harshly with other's your size. People need to remember to take into account not only their Height, but their muscle mass (big boned, small boned), sex, Frame, ect....;)

Try to get into classes at your college. I find the only way i actually stick to things and do my best is when i'm in a group setting. I'm kinda competitive though and i compare myself to everyone and make myself work harder to be above everyone else.

I recommend something like Spin class, it's fun and is a great work out however it does have a tendency to bulk up the thighs so i like to pair it with a good power yoga class and a good core yoga class. I used to do Power yoga, then spin, then core yoga (one right after the other) 3-5 times a week when i was training hard for skating and i loved it and never felt better in my life, the studio i was at closed down though :(

Oh, something else...

From everything I have learned (I am a movement science major) I really believe that VARIETY is absolutely key...maybe this is just cause I suck at sticking to a set amount of cals a day tho, lol. I really do need to see if there are actual studies done on this (i've never looked, embarrassingly enough!!)

Your body is AWESOME at adapting...once it adapts, the calories it takes to do something is decreased...it becomes very efficient. So I personally never let my body adapt. Some days I am sure I am eating 2000 cals, while other days I prob eat 1100 (this is usually days I am not working out)...basically, I am physically incapable of undereating (i'll like pass out), so I'm never worried about that.

My workouts switch a ton too. I've been doing Jillian Michael's Boost Metabolism for like a year now...if I start getting too good at it, I just quit it for a bit, then throw it in every now & then...so that way my body can't ever get too efficient at any one workout (obvs this is not ideal if you have an athletic goal you are working twds...my only goal is staying healthy!)

I didn't read the whole thread but the first page had some good points, also, keep in mind:

You were A KID when you weight 117. It might not be a totally realistic goal. High school isn't real life...most people don't get to keep their high-school-size when they move on. I'd shoot for a little but above 117 (like 125 or something) and see how that goes.

Given equal proportions, the same amount of muscle weighs more than the same amount of fat. It's just easier to type it out the other way.

Not true. If your body burns more fuel to keep warm it's going to request more fuel to burn. If you intake more than you burn, you put on winter-weight, which is additionally good because it acts as insulation. It's the same method as what happens in other animals, though they do have greater instincts driving them to eat more.

GO, yes and yes. the muscle weighs more than fat line is used because it is easier to say than to explain it all out. If you're fitting into certain pants, and those pants become a tad bit looser and the scale says you're weighing a bit more, and you've been working out, it's just easy to say that.

and when the weather does turn cold your body does make changes after a few weeks and it does tend to curve more towards energy conservation, meaning more is stored. Not to the degree as when people hit starvation mode and everything they eat gets stored, but some. Couple that with less activity, and holiday eating season, people gain weight.

Perzactly! You can be "bigger" at 130 lbs than you are at 180 . . . if that 180 is hard, muscle and the 130 was the normal, female fat to lean ratio. You'll also have better shape and things won't be nearly as susceptible to gravity -- that's a good future investment!

This happen to me as well! When I went to Texas for a year, I barely exercise at all and the food there was just delicious. I also brought a snack ever single day. Add all that for a year and I went from 115 to 145!! I didn't even notice it until my family members began pointing it out. Like you have gotten bigger, just like that. One of them couldn't even recognize me. I was utterly humiliated, like seriously.

Then, when we got a dog, couple with my love of dancing to music for a good hour or so, the weight just fell off. I haven't weighed myself in awhile but the last time I saw what I weighed it was a 120.

Easy or not, it is INCORRECT. & for ppl that are first starting out, it gives wrongful ideals.

It is not hard to type out the line that I did, furthermore, it is NOT difficult to explain...

When I work out, my body tells me I need to eat more, but I don't. When you're training for a race (running) you can't lose weight & get distance & speed in without eating to compensate for all of the Extra Energy you're burning up. You can only choose one. Either lose weight, or Train. We're not talking about animals here, we're talking about people. ;)

Our bodies are ALWAYS Adapting to weather, exercise, pollution, ect, it is OUR job to maintain whether we should be eating more or eating less. No one (unless dealing with a disorder, ect) gains weight due to the Weather changing, Just Like That! You don't *snap* gain 10 lbs because it gets colder outside, YOU do however gain those 10 lbs if you EAT more, my first point.

My apologies to you, OP, for taking your thread off topic.
