My boss just lost his baby of 12 years, We had a terrible week last week. and we had major ice storms and Loud thunder. And she panicked (she was scared of thuinder/loud bangs) and ran under his truck well they were herding the cows in. He is totally lost. He misses her as a friend but now cant seem to get the cows to listen. I promised him I would post online since he has never used a PC let alone the internet b4. He is set in his traditions and wants a border collie from working lines. (to him this is the only dog its the breed he has had for all 47 years of being a dairy farmer) But I told him it might now be wise to get them from a BYB but rather from a qualified breeder or Adopt.

RIP LADY! she was amazing to watch as she herded the cows in. Not at all aggressive. It was like watching a dance.

SO if anyone one knows any Working border collies that need homes please let me know.

It would help if we knew where your friend was located. There is a stockdog website that lists made dogs for sale http://www.stockdog.com Dont know what your friend was looking to pay for a made dog. I know of a few good reputable working dog breeders here on the east coast but dont know if that you benefit you at all

If I was to get a started BC, I would go to them. Even if they are far away, I know of a few other herding breeders on the east coast, if you PM me, I will send you links and or website links.

I believe someone else posted the link, but stockdog is a good place to go to look for breeders. If he wants results now, he might want to get a dog already started on cattle.

Here is a list of stockdog breeders in the Mo area off the stockdog list. I know nothing of these breeders, their rep or quality/price of dog but it is a place to start. Also Fieldstone has an EXCELLENT reputation as breeder, trainer and handler of some very nice dogs. If I were in the market for a sale pup vs. rescue I'd be there in a heartbeat. Also another place to look is the USBCHA website

Most puppies from good, working parents WILL work stock, but it's a gamble on how with such a young pup. Is he willing to raise and work with a puppy or would he prefer an older dog with some training?

Rescue is a good option, I'm sure he could find a dog that'd work cattle from a rescue, but it's a matter of a rescue being willing to place a dog with him. I've found that it's harder to get approved for a rescue dog vs. a breeder dog, because breeders tend to make exceptions where rescues won't budge (simply for time purposes - they don't have the time to get to know you that well if you don't pass their initial criteria - it doesn't make one unfit to own a Border Collie, mind you.)

Good luck! I too think Fieldstone produces top notch dogs, bred only to the working standard.

Border collie

Why not go to a Border Collie Rescue? there are so many beautiful border collies given up to rescues. Just google border collie rescues in the state where you live.
