Has anybody ever heard of this? When a dog pees on the floor you're suppose to put vanilla extract on the spot that they had gone to the bathroom on. I've never heard of anything like that before in my life.

Other than making the spot smell really good, I don't know that it would do anything...stick with Nature's Miracle.

Yeah, I have never heard of the vanilla thing either, and think it would become a spot of attention to the dog more than a deterant.

The best thing to help with housebreaking accidents is to not let them happen to begin with. Each one is a serious setback and only makes the process more drawn out.

As for cleaning up when it happened already - enzymatic cleaners do a great job, but you can also use a mix of regular soap and vinegar in warm water. The vinegar neutralizes the ammonia in the urine.

someone told me that it lifts the smell from that area. But I think that the person doesn't really know how to housebreak a new puppy.

Yeah, I don't think that person really knew what they were talking about. I'd stay away from it.

I would think that would just encourage the puppy to do that even more often since it would be a motivation. And then the housebreaking process is made harder.
