they are giving away a pregnant dog?!

What if the people who take her mean well but have no idea how to whelp a litter?

The puggle is a biter. No
The first shepherd x is a livestock chaser. (I already have some of those.) No
The Goldie, possibly spayed but too scared. No
The JRT x....is a terrier. Hell No
The yellow Lab x.....already neutered. Possibly a good choice.
The cattle dog x. Could be a good choice for those who like the breed!
The first black lab mix....sounds like a good dog. My guess is she doesn't like being caged at all.
The shepherd/chow mix....is part chow. No and Hell no.
The black shepherd x. Might need some extra care at first, but could be a good dog.
Any of the lab mix pups...probably not neutered. Plenty of potential.
The two newfie mixes look so huggable. Would need plenty of space.
The aussie is probably hyper. Could be good for an aussie fan.
The hound has a skin condition. No
The second cattle dog x. Ya gotta love the breed.
The next black lab x looks good!
The b/w lab mix is very pretty.
The next yellow lab mix is not especially friendly. No.
The next shepherd x has aggressiveness. No
The Catahoula sounds like a good possibility.
The Black Lab female....a definite good possibility
The pitbull might be a daddy. Sounds friendly. Use caution.
The pregnant choc lab (mix?). Well, she's very pregnant. The daddy is probably a pitbull. The combination could be good, easy to find homes for the pups. Yes, this girl needs an experienced midwife.

Not only that, but a lot of the comments about these dogs are just plain @ssy.

Rejecting the chow mix because it's part chow? How very breedist of you. Same with the terrier.

Rejecting the hound because of a skin condition? How very superficial of you.

And of COURSE one would have to "use caution" with the pitbull :rolleyes:

I've had a baaaaaaaad experience with a rescued chow. Never again. Terriers chew up the furniture, shoes, rip up the carpets and can basically destroy the house. Okay, then.....how about rejecting the hound because it is a hound. I like hounds but wouldn't want to keep one because I am not a hound person.
Use caution? Because although it is likely a very sweet dog, one is not sure of it's genetic or environmental causes of possible aggression issues.

I'm adopting the pregnant Lab. Today. She needs a good home where she can have those puppies.

I've had a bad experience with several breeds of dogs. That doesn't mean I write off the whole breed, but eh, I know some do and that's your perogative.

HOWEVER, you are *really* making a very broad-sweeping statement with your terrier judgement. Did you know that any and all breeds are capable of doing the things you've condemned terriers for? It's called training, containment and supervision my friend. If that's all it takes for you to write a breed, a whole family of breeds even, off....then all I can say is WOW, I'm suprised you share your life with any living creature.


And again, the last sentence quoted there.....um, that can be applied to ANY and EVERY dog, regardless of breed.

Please don't generalize because of a handful of experiences. There are plenty of people here than can testify to the wonderful attributes of terriers. And I bet they even still have houses that aren't destroyed. ;)

But, anyways, good on you for pulling the lab. I looked at the pics though and honestly, (unless I looked at the wrong pics..) I really think she has some pit bull TERRIER in her. For reals. :yikes:

I guess I assumed someone who is involved in rescue would know better than to make such sweeping generalizations about an entire breed.

Or an entire GROUP of breeds. In your case.

About chows. I've had one and I've known two other people who had one. One was okay as far as I know. One family got theirs from a pet store, when it got older it attacked one of the kids. The one I rescued from a shelter was very unpredictable and attacked people twice before being euthanized.

One should try not to make sweeping generalizations from their limited experience.

About GSD...

I have met many and most that I have met in person have come from bad breeders. They have been bought through petstores or adopted through shelters (so also a badly bred dog) They are nasty dogs... they are skittish shy and all seem to want to skulk up behind you and bite your legs and run away.

I was nearly attacked as a child by a GSD

I guess by your reasoning they are all bad dogs.. cause its more like 25/39 for my experiences.

I've had VERY similar GSD experiences, and I think my ratio is about the same as Dekka's if not worse.

Even then (as I'm sure Dekka would agree) I don't judge the breed as a whole, give every dog it's fresh start, and realise that the experiences I had are not, generally, a rule to hold each individual dog to.

Again, I'm not trying to sway your opinions, because you obviously feel they're valid. But...just keep in mind, you're condemning a breed based on a dog that came from a pet store, and one that came from a shelter and had Godknowswhat behind it as far as genetics/training. And then one that you had. That makes THREE. Out of an entire breed.

Good grief, I've dated far more men that turned out to be jerks than 3, and I haven't written off the entire male population yet. :p
