The driver of the pickup died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

To me I would have been surprised if he did make it, he seemed like a walking zombie when I helped him, and to me it was a decent way to go, his mind was dead on impact, he had no idea who he was or why paint was on him, He didn't know if he had a family or anything. He wasn't feeling any pain.

It's really sad tho, because he did not look much older than me, he could not have been older than 30 at the most.

This has been a stressful day for me, bringing up the past and repeating it pretty much.

That really sucks. Take heart that some of his last moments were spent with a caring and compassionate person. Since you say he had no idea of his family or friends, you were his friend today.

Oh that is so very upsetting...such a young man to have this happen to. I'm so sorry you had such a disturbing day. It had to have a huge impact on you. But like Eddie says, you played a very important role today for that guy....being there for him during his last small time left. That care and your presence had to comfort him on his journey.

For the life of me, I can't understand why there isn't a stop sign or at least a yield...something. That should be looked into. Maybe it would prevent a repeat of that tragedy today.

My condolences go out to his family and all who knew him. And to you too for your part in this and for the loss of your friend which this unfortunate accident brought back up.

I wonder if you do end up finding out if he had family (if it appears in the paper) if you might want to let the family know that he wasn't in any pain and didn't suffer?

REALLY tough call... I don't know if I could bring myself to do it. But when I think about it the other way around...would I want to know if it were my family member, I think I would. I think I'd want to know that someone was there for him, comforting him, that he wasn't scared or in agony... Might bring them some peace...and you're really the only person who can tell them what happened with their loved one between accident and death (basically).

But, again, majorly tough call and I myself would probably not be able to do it.

There is a stop sign there, it's just on the west side, so it had no play in this at all, there is no 4 way or 2 way stop, because it's a gravel road. As for contacting the family, No I haven't yet, but I might. Not sure yet.

I just looked at the pics, I couldn't understand how till I read he had no seatbelt on because the truck doesn't look badly mauled..........

I don't care for the arguements for NOT wearing one.

Having been in several crashes including one where the car was towing a caravan and the car rolled down an embankment and ended up on its side there is no WAY on this earth you'd get me not wearing one.

I hope people learn from this tragedy.

Poor man.... poor family. To think one click and it could have been different :(

Really saddens me.

Beside a seatbelt, another thing that could have helped was an airbag. Turns out the comany shop have removed the airbag for some reason and it was listed as still having one.

I Don't know how i missed this. WOw Scob. You did the right thing and i am glad you were there for him. GLad too that he was not in pain. Prayers for his family. I know it would be a comfort to me to know someone i loved was not in pain before they died. I hope you let the family know that.
