Tomorrow I go to get all the staples taken out.. I'm a little nervous because some of the skin has grown over the edge of some of the staples which might be a bit painful to get out. I'm hoping they will put some steri strips in place once they take the staples out because I still feel like my incision is going to burst open everytime I stand up or if my bladder is full. I am so ready for this pain to stop. I can't get comfortable at all. The absolute worst part for me still... is getting into my bed at night. There is no easy way to do it and I wind up crying everytime I try and do it gracefully. I can't even enjoy the fact that I'm no longer bleeding because I am so overwhelmed with the pain I have. This is the first time in at least 15 years I have not bled. It seems wild to not have to wear a pad anymore.

It will take a while . I remember right before I was off to College my Mom bled like that ....at one point she thought she was pregnant . After I left she finally went to a doctor in Montreal ( She hadn't been to a gyno ever ! ) They found a benign tumor the size of a grapefruit and removed everything . I felt terrible not being there ! As my Dad wasn't much of a caregiver ... she was in a recovery area for 2 weeks .... took a while , but she was fine . Good luck tomorrow !!!! I hope they aren't removing too soon !!! Let us know !

I got my staples removed today. Only a few of them pinched when he was taking them out.. so, overall it wasn't too bad. I definately over did it today.... and I really didn't do much of anything. I got up and took a shower and barely made it out of there when I started to get light headed and faint. I had to crawl into my bed soaking wet or I was going to be doing a face plant on the floor when I passed out. I had my doctors appointment and had to wait 2 hours in the waiting room... ugghh. Then my friend that took me to the doctors talked me into stopping for a quick lunch. I went home and took a nap and then went to our work christmas party.

I was okay for about the first half hour of being there and then the pain and exhaustion set in. Before I knew it I was about in tears with pain. I feel like I'm walking and moving around like an elderly person with a load of crap in their pants! I can't even stand up straight. I move at a snails pace. I know this will get better... but geez.. .it's been a week now since I've had my surgery and I still feel horrible.

Oh, I forgot to tell you the highlight of my doctor's appointment...lol. After he took the staples out he rubbed benzoin all over the incision and then put steri strips in place where the staples had been. For those of you who know what benzoin is... then you must know how sticky it is and how awful it smells..ewww. So, he's all done and as I'm walking out of the office he tells me to be careful because the benzoin would try and stick to my clothing. Well, I no sooner heard those words come out of his mouth when I realized my underware were now glued to my incision. It wasn't too much trouble getting it apart... but the benzoin ruined my brand new undies I paid a lot for...grrrr. I suppose I can't complain too much if that's the worst thing that happened at my doctor's appointment. I'm on the mend.. but it's slow going.

hehe you wore your expensive undies to a Dr's appt... I don't know why that is funny but it makes me giggle a little. I'm sorry ... I'm such an insensitive clod.

I really hope you get to feeling better soon... once the pain is gone you won't even remember it and you will forever remember living the rest of your life without having to worry if you are going to bleed or not. It may not seem worth it now... but it really is.

Okay... so this tuesday I will be 4 weeks post op. It's been a rough few weeks. I couldn't hardly do anything myself. It hurt like heck all the time and when I'd sneeze... I thought my insides were going to burst out of me. I've had a very slow recovery.. partly because I've been in this depression and haven't done much of anything to help me heal quicker.. like getting up and walking and moving around like I should have. So, I got very sore and stiff and had great difficulty moving around.

I couldn't even make it through a shower without nearly passing out. TJ has had to help me with EVERYTHING... and I mean EVERYTHING you can imagine. He's been so sweet.. I don't know what I would have done without him.

Well, today... I took a whole shower by myself and even managed to do a quick shave and even bent over to pick up the razor when I dropped it. Granted.. it was a quick shower, but I did it all myself. I got dressed and even put my own socks on. I loaded the dishwasher and washed down the counters. And I went out shopping today with Arielle and went to dinner. I did get really tired and had to walk slow as a snail and hunched over a little bit because it hurts to stand up straight because the incision pulls... but I did a whole lot today.

I know it doesn't sound like much.. but if you could see how dependant I was on TJ .. you'd understand why this is such a big deal to me. I'm finally feeling like I'm on the mend with my healing. It's still pretty sore and I'm having a little problem area on the incision that doesn't want to completely close up.. but overall... I am feeling a whole lot better these last few days. I have a doctors appointment on friday to make sure everything is okay.

I have taken care of so many post op patients over the years and now I can honestly tell them I know how they feel. And this is all new to me because I didn't now what to expect once I got home. I am used to the initial recovery phase while the patients are still in the hospital. I had no idea what I was about to have to endure when I got home.. not something I ever want to go through again.

Oh... and I can actually sleep on my belly again without too much discomfort. I'm a die hard belly sleeper.. even if I try to fall asleep on my back or side.. I ALWAYS wake up on my belly. And I was having to prop pillows all around me to try and deter me from rolling over because it was so incredibly painful not to mention it was causing my incision to bust open from the pressure of laying on my belly. So.... yippeee.... I can roll over and not cry in pain... woo hoo!!

And the best part... is that I don't have to wear a pad anymore. It's so odd to not be bleeding. I keep thinking I'm gonna bleed again, but I will never bleed from that part of my body anymore... and I'm thrilled beyond belief about that. I didn't realize just how much of an inconvenience all that bleeding was until I didn't have to deal with it.

it sounds like your well on the way to recovery, its a tough one, a hysterectomy is realy tough to recover from in those first few weeks...

but now you can enjoy no more bleeding and make sure to moisturives your tummy like crazy itll help keep the skin supple and once the insicion is fully healed moisturizing that will help the scar fade :D i had a partial done very young and you cant even see the scar anymore (im a moisturizing feind!)

That's all good, Nancy . . . NOW . . . . you get busy keeping that incision area gradually stretched. You don't want to end up with adhesions that have to be cut!
oh gosh... I don't want to even think about that :yikes: I hope I haven't already set myself up for problems with that because it's really hard to stand straight up... it's soooo tight. And the scar tissue that is forming feels like a long thick bumpy sausage behind the incision.. it's gross!

Nancy, You are a very lucky woman! The pain your body experienced will continue to fade, but your mind will not have to worry about the bleeding... and if you are dying. You have a chance at a normal life!
I would be so content, and thankful.
I hope you try to concentrate on how lucky you and your family are.

If you still feel in the dumps, I hope you see a Dr. that may help you with any depression you may be having.

I would also like to say I am thankful you have finally received the medical attention you deserved. :)

Best wishes, I have thought about you often... even though I have been too busy to get updated on chaz that much.

Best Wishes,
Julie.
