So basically my husband wants to bring his car up to chicago, Illinois. His car is in the tricities (wa) right now so we are going to drop the dogs off in Seattle, he's going to meet me there and we are going to drive his car to Chicago. Then we are going to stay in Chicago for a few days before I fly back to Seattle, get the dogs and my car and drive home. It's going to be mid June, so right in the middle of summer. I really kind of wish I could bring the dogs, but it would just stress Artimis out and Talon is a bit large to easily find accomadation and he doesn't really like being in the car for long periods of time.

So, I know it's a pretty wide area, but thought I'd ask to see if chazzers had any recomendations on some good sight seeing spots along the route? We haven't narrowed down the exact route yet, but he'll have at least 10 days off, possibly more, and I'll have 15 or so. So we figure if it takes about 34 hrs to drive straight through (google maps), we could spend a max of 6 days on the drive sight seeing/camping etc, and still have at least 4 days for him to show me around Chicago. That is also at the absolute minimum, he may be getting more days off, so up to 15 (my work days off) is the number of days we have. We plan on doing some driving at night and switching off drivers for at least one day, which would give us more time to do things.

We were thinking of taking a day to see yellowstone, but I think that's really the only thing we could really find right now. If there's nothing too interesting we may just book it to chicago and spend more time there.

But any suggestions on trip advice or places that we should check out (nature, atttractions, parks, food, anything really), or things we should bring or make sure of would be very welcomed :)

I live in Montana.. you will see basically mountains and trees everywhere. But it's definitely not boring. You can come to Butte and go to the Berkley Pit to check it out and you'll learn stuff about it.

You also can ride the trolley through town and their is a tour guide on the trolley that will tell you all around the town. I haven't been on the trolley since I was in high school but I found it pretty interesting! A trolley is basically like a train.. if you don't know what it is but it has seats and no windows lol.

Of course other towns have more to offer in the historical sense.. Yellowstone Park is in Bozeman and it's pretty neat. Bozeman is roughly 1 and a half hour - 2 hours from Butte depending which way you go.. it's a really nice town in my opinion. My good friend lives there. So if you're going to look at things to do in different towns around Montana here is a website with a wealth of information. http://www.visitmt.com

Idaho is really beautiful! Especially in the Spring/Summer. Couer d' Lane is my favorite part.. just so beautiful. http://www.visitidaho.org/things-to-do/

Hello!

Whatever you do: STAY OUT OF NEBRASKA!
It is like purgatory.
One of the widest states to drive across and contains precisely nothing.
Just wanted to give you a heads up!

I believe this only counts for westerners. (which is this case).

If you're from the east coast, you go plains, plains, plains. Sure its not much to look at, but thats the point. You're out of the trees, out of the cornfields. Then you get to Sidney and you realize you're higher than anyplace on the east coast.
