I am going to get a new crate for my mixed breed dog (50 lbs). We don't use a crate in the car right now, but I can't decide if I should get a travel crate or just get one for use at home - what do you use your dog crate for most often? Which type do you prefer? Thanks!

I have the metal wire type but it is only used at night for Lola to sleep in. Being your dog is 50 pounds you may want to get a wire crate for using at home and a seat belt attachment for your car that the dog will be secured in. If you were to get a travel crate for using in the car and that was not secured somehow in the back then the crate could become a fast moving projectile if an accident were to occur. If the dog is seat belted in or secured somehow other than a loose crate the dog will not become a projectile. Even if you were to get a travel crate and secure that in the back the dog could be slammed around inside of the crate if an accident were to happen.

Also the wire crate the dog can see all around where as a travel crate they would only be able to look out the front or back.
