It's going to sound weird, but it's hard to train Tips, because Boris wants to be with us all the time. Tips is in his play pen in the room with me, and everytime i take him out Boris wants to come, too. So I leave him in the room with the gate up and then he whines :( He just wants to be with people all the time. If I let him come he won't leave Tips alone and it's impossible to teach him anything, nor to praise him as I should when he pees outside (which he did last night, yay).

Sometimes I let Boris out of the room, put the gate up, and let Tips walk in the room, but Boris wants to come play too.

I usually train him a bit when outside (he has come/sit perfectly and working on down). I'm thinking I'm just going to end up going in the play pen with him to train him. Any other idea?

I don't know either when I should start leaving them together in the room. Boris doesn't mind the gate being up actually as long as I'm here with Tips. It will be 2 months before he's done with his shots, but mostly i want them to get used to being together without spending their time playing, and Boris won't leave him alone.

Boris is not jealous though, nor protective of his things at all. He let Tips play with his toys (which are way too big for him, lol) and doesn't mind, Tips and one of the cats even went to eat in his bowl and he doesn't care. When we play with Tips he just tries to steal the treats but that's it. I still make sure Boris gets treats when Tips does (he has to sit for it though ;) ).

Anyway, any advice would be really appreciated :)

What a lovely problem to have! It can get exasperating, but it's a big plus that Boris wants to be around Tips and his people and isn't jealous.

You might try scheduling Tips' main training session for the time when you feed Boris to keep Boris occupied. After that you can let Boris join in for a short session and show Tips how things are done ;)

Yes I actually like having Boris outside too, Tips peed twice outside when he was there. It's just that with the mud and rain and Boris playing and sliming Tips and making him roll on his back... I'm really going to have to wash him when it stops raining.

Yesterday I took Tips out at the same time that Boris was barking at the neighbors... I put Tips down, and asked Boris to come and sit... And both came and sat, lol. Now they keep trying to grab each other's toys through the pen gates

It's just hard to do much with Tips when Boris starts getting all over him. It's been a bit better today though, it seems Boris is getting more used to it and actually leaves him alone a bit when outside now... especially if he hasn't seen me for a bit (either I came back home from errands or woke up), he's happy to see me and more focused on me than him.

My pitbull mix is the SAME way! If I take Hannah out of her crate to work on obedience or anything he's crying and whining and making it impossible to work with her. If I let him out of his crate my Hannah won't leave him alone and then I really can't work with her. If she does leave him alone he keeps pushing himself in between me and Hannah trying to demand treats that I am using for her as a reward. He is SO jealous of Hannah (just jealous in general if I pay attention to any of the other dogs). Hannah does sit really well and she also does down pretty good. She's used to getting a treat after she rolls over so immediately after she lays she wants to roll over and get her treat. I'm working on stay and she will stay for about .5 seconds and then she gets up agian. Mack's at the vet's getting fixed today so I've been trying to get her to work with me on obedience. She seems a little depressed though so she doesn't want to do much of anything.

She's probably bored :)

Boris doesn't care for me much when I train Tips, he just wants to play with Tips and get the treats  So I don't think it's jealousy more than wanting to be a part of EVERYTHING that happens in the house. He's always been the same way when I put the gate up, even before I got Tips.

I leave Tips in his pen so he has his space, but he wants to go out and play with Boris a lot. He whines when Boris leaves the room too, it's pretty cute. I expected that Boris would make things difficult when I decided to get Tips though, it makes things more annoying but it's still sooo less stressful than when I got Boris... And Boris seems much less bored now :)

The fact that Tips is not half as crazy as Boris helps though. He's starting to move and run around a bit more, I guess he's getting used to his new home.

I've got to admit to being perfectly willing to let my older dogs train the young pups, lol! If it weren't for Bimmer, Shiva would have no manners whatsoever. He taught both of them what "where are your manners?" means - something he came up with on his own when he was just a li'l feller. He was rambunctious and I got frustrated with being nipped at and pinched on the butt and turned around on him and asked him sharply, "Where are your manners?" He sat down and has done so ever since! He taught it to Buffy and now he's taught Shiva and Kharma both. He's also taught them "Stay" and "Go to work" and pretty much how to listen and do whatever I ask. I feel incredibly privileged to have such an expert trainer living with me, lol!

Maybe Boris will teach Tips to do the same.

That's what I'm worried about because of the jumping and nipping... Although I hope that Tips is smart enough to realize that I don't like that. He never jumps and I totally ignore him when he's mouthing on me, but it really doesn't happen much... yet.

But I guess that seeing Boris pee and poop outside payed off, as he's actually been holding to do outside. No accident in the house yesterday and he's in his pen all the time so he could do it, but he hasn't. Crossing my fingers that he really got it, I know there will be accidents but I'm so proud of him already.
