Toys for Destructive Dog

I want to get my aunt and uncle's lab "puppy" (she's a year old) a toy or two for Christmas. I don't know too much about what she likes to play with but I do know one thing...she eats stuff. Lots of stuff. I swear every picture I've seen with her she has a shaved front leg because she had to go to the vet for consuming something dangerous (large amounts of dead crabs, bathing suits, kids toys, etc.). They've spent thousands at the vet. So I need something really hard to destroy. Any thoughts?

Abrams destroys most toys.

His all time FAVORITE is a large Cuz (with the feet cut off). He loves loves loves loves it. We also have another toy by JW that is a nylabone-esque toy surrounded by a squeaky ball with Cuz like material. It is also his baby. (Ah, here we are: http://www.chewy.com/dog/jw-pet-boney-squeaky-dog-ball-medium/dp/108871) He is able to shred/break/kill most other ball toys - these hang out forever.

We also have a Kong Huggz that he may have destroyed in his younger days, but LOVES now. The squeaker has not died and he abuses it. He doesn't try to shred the ears or paws, though, not sure how it would stand up to that. (http://www.chewy.com/dog/kong-huggz-koala-dog-toy-large/dp/112196)

West Paw Zogoflex toys. I haven't actually heard of any dogs eating these?

Venice's front incisors snipped a Zogoflex Bumi clean in half. She wasn't even chewing it, just tugging with me. IME the toy was extremely delicate.

Nylabones or black kongs? I know they're sort of 'boring' as far as toys go, but Venice has a fun time chucking her kong around and for a lab that mouths everything they'd probably do the trick.

Give elk antlers a try. It's the toughest chew I have ever seen and most dogs love them instantly.

Lancer doesn't like Kong toys for some reason, but is obsessed with the turnup... probably being green and looking like a tennis ball + super bouncy and unpredictable bouncing. It fits into the chuckit and they're super durable, despite Lancer's toy smashing abilities.

We use the JW bone in ball toys at work in day camp but the bone part actually comes out fairly easily (it's two separate pieces, half a bone on each side) and I know this dog would swallow it. I'm probably going to avoid plush toys except maybe tuffies, I'll have to read reviews.

I like the looks of the zogoflex toys. I bought Tucker a hurley when he was a puppy but he didn't like it. It looks like not all of their toys are made for chewing, only the Tux, Jive, and Hurley so maybe they are stronger than the bumi? I'll have to find out what she likes to play. If she just likes to chew then nylabones would work. I did buy them a Kong when they got her (a red one), not sure if she liked it or not though.

I wanted to get a jolly ball/Tuggo ball (we have a tuggo ball at work without the rope, it's fabulous) or something like that but that would have to be an outside toy and they have an invisible fence so I just see that going poorly with it rolling out of her boundaries.


I could give them an antler, though I do worry about breaking teeth. I'd hate her to hurt herself on something I gave her! That's why I'm being so cautious about what I buy.


Anyone use fire hose toys? Are they easy to rip apart?

Try Goughnuts. Those are about the only things I've ever tried for my dogs that they can't destroy quickly. And Nylabones Dura Chews in the largest sizes.

If he is super destructive, just a head's up - everything that's been mentioned so far in this thread has fallen prey to one or both of my dogs already. We've tried everything, lol. Hurley lasted 2 hours before it was an obstruction risk, Cuz's about 5 minutes. Elk antlers don't even last a day, and that's with me buying beams. Etc. My dogs are ruiners.
