The abscess on Misha's face is now going down (sighs of relief all round!), but the vet has been warning us it will probably lead to an extraction of the tooth - i think it will be a top molar. Has anyone got experience of a tooth extraction on a dog? Are they likely to put her under a general anesthetic - does it cause problems with other teeth in the mouth? What's the recovery period like?

They will probably put her under for the extraction, I'd think. Can you imagine pulling an Airedale's tooth when awake  Poor Misha! Toothaches hurt! I don't know how it will affect her other teeth, but I wouldn't think a dog's teeth would move around as significantly as ours will.

Thanks both!! That's good to know. She seems young to have a teeth out - I'm going through mild paranoia about everything she eats - but I can't work out what would have caused the abscess.

We pulled many teeth at the vet clinic I used to work for. Generally a simple procedure and oh man...they have to be under!! There should not be problems afterward and it will not affect the other teeth. :)
