Hi!

Tomorrow I'll start teaching Nina her first trick, which will be to learn how to sit.

Here is the procedure I'll use to teach her to sit

Wish me luck :)

You are invited to train your dog along with me as well !

There are better methods them luring. If you intend to teach more then the basics, I'd research more. You mentioned you were using a book. Might want to look into shaping behaviour instead.

How did it go? We love pics and vids over here at Chaz!

Shaping is a great way to train, and it sort of teaches your dog how to learn and is useful for training things where luring isn't possible. Shaping is/was difficult for me to get a hang of because it's hard for me to be diligent about what my criteria is.

Hi MafiaPrincess!

Many thanks for the suggestion. I'm really not familiar at all with shaping behaviour. In fact, it's the first time I hear about it. Sorry, but I'm a total rookie on pet training. My intent is just to have some fun with my dog trying to train her to do some tricks. Also, want to help some other regular dog owners (non pet specialists) like me to also have some fun with their dogs training them too! I'll check your suggestion out as soon as I can and see where I can go from there. For now, want to keep on the path I already started to see what happens. ;)

thanks again, please keep helping me learn! I'm really happy with your advice and would be even more happy if you can continue helping me :)

We have gone through the second day of training today.
I need to tell you that it is not easy. She is not yet sitting on command.
But she keeps going crazy for the treat :) See this video

http://youtu.be/FJGXXogVFzw
(not sure how I embed it here if you prefer. Tried the following code but didn't work: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/FJGXXogVFzw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The posts I mention on that video are these:
http://www.myfunpetlife.com/how-to-train-a-dog-to-sit
http://www.myfunpetlife.com/how-to-train-a-dog-to-do-tricks

During training, sometimes I can get her to think and I see she's somehow confused and trying to figure it out what I want from her and why I don't just go ahead and give her the treat. But she hasn't yet associated with the fact she needs to sit. She did sit once byherself yesterday and that was it. But it's only the second day and I'm doing 10min session/day, so for a total of 20min training guess I should not be expecting much. I'll continue with training this week and will do a new post on my site during the weekend about this week's results.

thanks a lot for your message! Hope you like the vídeo.
