The water bottle thread got me thinking - someone was using empty water bottles as treat dispensers, which is a great idea! What other clever recycling ideas has anyone come up with?

There's the old standby, tie a knot in an old sock for instant chew rope. Any others?

I like value village shopping for cheap stuffed toys. Not exactly recycling, but very thrifty. 1.99-2.99 for toys the size of my dogs.. 1.99 for bags of 4-5 small stuffed toys my dogs prefer these days.

Finn loves empty bottles for the noise they make. I'll happily give him msot of my just-finished bottles for him to gnaw on happily until they're squished. :p Double recycling!

Yard sales, thrift store, etc are great places to find stuffed toys (haven't hit them up yet for Caleb, tho- there's still plenty of toys hanging around that I got for Mick from them. LOL). Sometimes someone at work will put something in the staff lounge that I'll bring home for Caleb mainly toddler toys, but last week I brought home a big red fuzzy pillow.

Ice cubes are great fun! :) kenya loves those, especially when they are in big chunks from being in coolers

umm empty jars of peanut butter!! those are a BIG hit here, its link a cheap kong. it has just enough peanut butter on the sides/bottom that she spends forever trying to lick it off

Stuffed toys from the dollar store. I tried giving her things like empty boxes or paper rolls but she's just not interested. She loves stuffed toys though. When she was a puppy I made a rope for her from some leftover nylon, she loved that, maybe I'll make her a new one.

I have found pricey dog toys in the bargain bin at the thrift store quite often. We have such good thrift stores around here but i have heard from people that it isn't the case where they live so i guess i am lucky.

I saw a toy at petsmart that it's like a sleeve... and you put empty water bottles inside.
Yeah! They were on clearance at a local smaller pet shop so I got one for Finn - it has a fluffy tail with a squeaker attached to it. I put the bottles in there and he LOVES it.

we have a "Might Dollar"
its a store where every single thing is only a buck.

They always have toys from petco that sell for 10-14 dollars there for a dollar. the other day we got some planet dog orbee tuff balls, and planet dog squeeky fleece blocks.

For Tokie, she finds her own toys....mainly sticks, some very large. And no, I don't worry about splinters or choking. She chews on them and spits the little pieces out. But mostly she likes to play fetch and keep away with me. They're free and in abundance around here. And she likes tennis balls... snow balls when the snow comes thrown from the Chuckit also is a big hit. Tennis balls, she usually finds around the property from when my niece use to come here all the time and bring her tennis ball obsessed dog. So, I've never had to buy a tennis ball. Or she'll find them other places out in the woods where other dogs may have been.

All the dogs like Nyla bones. Those are expensive. Stuffies just don't work around here. All three dogs are powerful chewers and just rip them to shreds in seconds.

I like the empty peanut butter jar idea.
