Thinning Shears

Grooming a Silky Coton de Tulear

I have a silky coton dog. Does any know how I can take the bulkiness out of his coat without clipping him down. I used a furminator but that doesn't work on him. Would thinning shears work?

I wouldn't use thinning shears. Yes you'll be taking a little bulk from the coat but then those shorter hairs start growing again and make it even more bulky as they push up other parts of the coat. Thing will be very uneven and just won't look nice. I suggest taking the dog to a professional groomer getting them properly bathed, dried and brushed out makes a huge difference in how their coat lays.
