Sooo Josh got finally got into the union that he moved away from me for, the one his parents said he'd get in "right away".....a year and a half later....
Work was great! ...For like 4 weeks....

Now it's been 2 or 3 solid weeks that he's been calling everyone he can think of for work, and nothing. EI said it *should* kick in around halfway through August, and until then he's got to find cash jobs.
He's got an apartment, car (payments, insurance, gas), phone bill, internet bill, and food to worry about and he's got nothing. ***And the car was purchased for him by his parents basically with "hey we bought you this car, now you owe is money" no say in anything.

He brought it up to his parents and they basically dismissed him saying "well, you grew up with it, you should have known"

I used to really like his parents. But after all this crap....I really want nothing to do with them. I'm not even sure how much longer we're going to keep this up.

I'm at such a freakin loss with everything lately.

Ugh that's the worst, Oz. Can he get rid of the Internet to cut down on costs, or is he in a contract? Same with phone. I don't even have a phone right now because I'm unemployed, so can't afford it.

My vent is that starting a business is hard. Especially in a new place.

He needs the phone for work - when there's work they will call him sometimes.
And I think he might just go insane without the internet, and netflix unfortunately. :(

Sorry to hear that starting up where you are now is giving you difficulty. I'm not too too far away, let me know if there's anything I can do to help!

Over the past few days something really strange has been going one with one of my coworkers who is also my best work friends. She arrived at the zoo as usual on Saturday but during the morning routine all of us at the pony ride station noticed she wasn't herself. Her speech slurred occasionally, she was stumbling, was plain not herself and acting very strange, akin to someone on a substance. I know smoking is one of her habits but this was completely unlike her. She's been edgy, defensive, and mentally not there since.

Immediately it reminded me of my own experiences with someone close to me who once struggled with substances, and by the time in the morning my other coworkers shared their concerns with me too and I definitely judged it was severe, I casually asked if she was okay, and when she said it was fine but stumbled while doing a ride with a child and couldn't lock the gate properly, I radio'd my bosses to convey my concern so there would be no confrontation.

Long story short she was sent home that day and told to rest up, under the same suspension the rest of us had knowing their had been a previous night of drinking with some other coworker friends. Speed to Sunday and she comes back and not only do we immediately notice, but one of my bosses comes down to our station, shares the concern with me, and we all agreed to keep her off ponies for safety, and to discreetly evaluate her because by now she was being very guarded around the bosses and even more defensive as well as strangely possessive of things like the radio and keys they entrusted to me. She was sent home again.

It's just all so weird. None of us know what to think because all of this is not her at all and our suspicions are the worst. And in whatever weird state she's in, she's been talking about me without confronting me which she would almost always do just as a very close work friend - saying I'm lazy, never help her clean the barn, etc, stingy with my position. And I'm a god honest worker. I have been holding a supervisor-like position since our old supervisor left because I then became the most experienced person at this station and they entrust me with a lot of those responsibilities. I never skimp on helping out, cleaning, mucking, etc. And if she suddenly felt some way like that about me she would've said so directly to me - she's always been very honest.

It's just so weird and we're all very worried. Plus friends who have called to check on her say she hasn't improved from this state, and she keeps trying to come into work even though it's definitely not safe and would pretty much be child endangerment because of the nature of our work.

I want to reach out to her because she's really been a good close friend but I've been the shoulder so many times I don't even want to be involved in any way now but I'm still worried.

It could be a substance but it could also be a medical issue. I'm kinda surprised they didn't make her go to the hospital? I dunno what the usual procedure is though.

My SIL's little brother is in high school and he's being airlifted to a hospital right now. He's having a lot of very bad symptoms (lethargy, coughing, vomiting, etc) and supposedly his heart is 2x enlarged. He had an ECG run and that was bad so they decided to air lift him. He's a healthy guy and an athlete. Is the high school quarterback, etc. So this is out of left field and I am REALLY worried for him. He's been in PICU for a bit but I'm just getting more and more worried that there is something very wrong. Feel pretty helpless at the moment because we're all just waiting...

For months and months I have done overtime. Had an imbalanced work/life schedule. I missed out on things, rescheduled things because I felt like my job was really important. There were people out there counting on me to be timely and fair. Shifted positions at work because management asked me to. Hated it. Been told I would get my old position back when the new person was trained. Has been months now and now they are hiring more additional people for my old position. That makes about six new people since I got transitioned. I think I'm being strung along. I really loved my old position, always had good reviews and I am so miserable in this other position. I am bored out of my mind. Non-productive. Burnt out. I just want to do what I am good at. Or at least tell me it will never happen.

I took two summer classes this summer. NEVER. AGAIN.

One of them is going just fine.

The other one is a freakin' nightmare. And I have no idea how the hell I'm going to finish/pass it. For both of them, the professors take days (if not longer than a week) to email you back/answer questions. The syllabus has no dates on it. The explanations for what to do on assignments are so incredibly vague, and I've done horribly on every single thing I've handed in with the comments "did you read the full description of the assignment?". Uh, yes, DID YOU? Because it says nothing relevant. She also keeps taking off points because apparently my margins are the wrong size, but on my document it says they're the size she's saying they should be. I don't even care about my grade anymore as long as it's good enough to transfer credit.

A mouse has gotten into my house. I suspect I know how, but my dad doesn't agree. (He also doesn't know how it could have climbed up on my bookshelf - one pooped ON my blinds hanging in my window, so let's just write off what he knows and doesn't know about mice.) I filled the hole then put up a trap. The trap is still empty and when I came home for lunch I found mouse poop ON the board I placed on the top of Payton's crate to use as a nightstand while I'm still getting furniture. The mouse was bloody ON TOP of Payton's crate.

It is possible the foolish mouse then fell into his crate or into Auggie's and has since perished. But I have no evidence that happened.

It might be cruel to some people, but it is one of many things my dog was bred for... so I took Auggie around the house with me and pulled everything away from the wall, emptied out all the closets, and shined a flashlight everywhere, hoping to ferret it out and into Auggie's waiting mouth. Kota killed the one and only mouse that ever got into my parent's house, but Kota has long since left this world and I can only hope he taught Auggie well. Auggie who has caught and killed rabbits, squirrels, and birds. I'm pretty sure he can do the job.
But we were unsuccessful, and I don't know where it could be hiding. I really want to find it before it gets into the kitchen and starts causing actual trouble. I may need to pick up a few more traps. I did find two other possible entry points while prowling, so I'll fix those too.

We'll try again tonight. I'm determined to put that mouse either in the trap or in Auggie's mouth.

I've heard that once you see enough evidence to notice it, you likely have significantly more than one mouse on the premises.

We called in a pest control guy and he placed poison stations around to fix our problem.

I hate mice and rats (wild ones in my house, not pet ones), when I heae them in my attic at the ranch house, out comes the poison, I dont play around.

Glue traps where the dogs can't get to them. Or leave out with them in the kennel. Put them right along the wall. They get in the craziest tiniest holes.

Yeah, people always say that if you see one you have more than one, but I only ever had one before I moved into the house (back when half my laundry floor was ripped open to the crawl space; Auggie told me where it was, but we killed it in a trap) and there was only ever the one at my parent's house that Kota killed. My experience is people say stuff and it's not always true LOL. Sometimes it really is just one. But they can breed fast so you need to hope it's not a pregnant one...

The problem with poison is a) better pray it doesn't die somewhere you can't dispose of the body because decaying mouse stinks and b) god forbid the dogs found the dead (poisoned) body before me.

My dad thinks it came in when he had the door open bringing in trim board but I don't think so. The cable guy left a hole open to the crawl and was supposed to bring me the hardware to plug the hole and never did. I am 99% sure it got in there. I even told my dad almost two weeks ago I was concerned about a mouse getting in through that hole. If my dad let it in, that means it went PAST all the food in the kitchen and went into the furthest possible away bedroom... I don't think so.

I have to go shopping tonight anyway so I'm buying more traps. It will not last long.

I thought about asking to borrow a friend's cat but I am extremely allergic so we'll file that under the KILL IT WITH FIRE fix...

Yea, I won't do poison either. We had a few - filling in a few possible acces points, sealing up food stuffs, cleaning up trails well, and using snap and spinning traps (plus a Snipe) seemed to do the trick. I think we caught 4 total.

Well, I think the problem has sort of resolved itself, though not how I wanted.

I bought traps while shopping, came home. Made dinner and was washing all my dishes. Then I heard something - I wasn't sure what it was. I thought somebody was outside with metal trash cans or something. Thumping on metal.

Then I realized it was underneath my feet.

EIGHT MONTHS AGO I bought vent covers. THREE WEEKS AGO I asked my dad to help me finish putting them on all the vents. The vents are floor vents and the registers I pulled out were from the 1950's, so in order to put the new registers on, we have to cut down the duct work. He has the tool, I don't. He helped me with one and then didn't bother with the others. So besides one in the laundry room that he did back when I bought the vent covers, the bathroom which has an entirely different type because we moved the vent when we remodeled, and the one he helped me with (in the office) - all the other vents are completely wide open holes on the floor.

I am almost positive the mouse fell into one of these. Running along the wall and plop, straight down into an open duct. And it could not get out. I have video of it thumping around in the vent. Then I recorded it squeaking with terror directly under the furnace. Now I hear nothing. My dad couldn't come up with any way to get it out. We have baited two of the snap traps I bought, tied a string to the end, and lowered them down into the vents as far as we could, hoping it will try to take the bait and get snapped and we can then fish it out.

It's going to die in my duct work and I won't be able to get it out, and my house will reek of rotting dead mouse.

On the upside it will only stink for a short period of time and your mouse is dead now.
I mean PROBLEM SOLVED but ughhhhhhh
I feel bad - yes I was going to kill it, but I was planning on baiting the traps carefully so it would be a fast death, and when Kota killed the mouse it was VERY quick, he crunched it and broke it's spine and it twitched twice and died, so I figured Auggie would provide a rather quick death as well... instead it's going to starve to death, or since I can't hear anything anymore, it already died of terror. =< Poor guy. I tried to reason with it. I was shouting GO SOMEWHERE I CAN GET YOU OUT. THEN TELL ME WHERE YOU ARE. That was when it was squeaking. But I couldn't get it out there! It rumbled around a little bit more after my dad got here to help me, but all has been quiet for a couple hours now. Poor dead mouse.
