The girls, after an evening of jogging and swimming. Well, I jogged. They basically sprinted in circles around me for my six miles. It's rather humbling, honestly.

Happy Kimmy does my heart good :)

Their last swimming session after returning to the trailhead

Reality Check: In which Kim suddenly comes to the horrifying realization that she is standing in a river.

Also, in case you've ever wondered just how much coat can alter a dog's appearance...these pictures were taken five days apart:
Wet

Dry (though a bit wavy)

Anyway, another good night at the river :)

One time the dam by our house broke, and our road flooded. This was before we had Duncan, but we took Cameron out as we surveyed the scene. Normally there is a brook that runs under the road, it's about 7 feet down, so for the roads to be flooded there was an insane amount of water. I wasn't paying any attention, and out of the corner of my eye I see Cameron step off the edge of the road and go right under the water.

Pulled her up, she looked like a drowned rat. She shook her coat and suddenly went back to normal. She gave me a heart attack, but she looked hilarious for that split second.

I like the wet look, he looks more muscular, ;)

Mira is GORGEOUS! And Kim is beautiful as always. Mira and Enzo share the same goofy expression in most of their pictures :p

Mira's coat is looking really beautiful recently! I love how Flattie coats are long enough to look gorgeous but aren't excessive like some other retrievers bred for the show ring.

Also your dogs are in awesome shape! She looks so fit!

Two lovely girls! I love the last two, they look like post cards or the dog on the dog food bag. :)

Gorgeous dogs!!!!!
I WISHWISHWISH I had somewhere safe to take my dogs swimming, but our river (which is SOOO awesomely close to my house) is waaaayyyy toooooo dangerous to swim in.

You are so awesome to jog 6 miles with your dogs and to take them swimming. :D

Thanks, guys :)
I love Mira's adult coat...last year she would easily pick up 80+ burs every time we hit the woods...it was awful. Now that she has her true adult coat she only picks up a few around the ears and neck, where she's more cottony. Such an improvement.
There are Flatcoat, particular those who focus on the breed ring and start getting their priorities mixed up, that are starting to carry a LOT more coat...not a good trend at all. Mira is a bit on the naked side still but she's young, and the females tend to carry less coat in general.

And yes we are very lucky to have the river :) When we move we won't be able to come ~4x/week like we are now, but we'll still make a weekly trek. I love the moodiness of a river relative to a lake...every day is different :)

Chewbecca -- Sorry your river is so dangerous. Is it the Kankakee, by chance (just moved from IL)?

The running thing...I like to run. I'm glad my dogs like to run with me. I adore that after an hour of swimming in the river (in intervals) plus sprinting around me while I run, Mira is still bounding and leaping with enthusiasm, and out-sprints dogs who just arrived at the park. Kim is still merry at that point, but content to watch for the most part lol.

In other news, Mira's OFA results just came back so she is officially a "Good" Dog lol...and has normal elbows :)

Mira is gorgeous, seriously. Congrats on the OFA (or whomever) scores. :D

Are you planning on breeding her in the future?

Undetermined. Mira is co-owned with one of her three breeders and both of us have veto rights on breeding (ie. I cannot by contract breed Mira without running it by Co-owner, which I wouldn't anyway since she has incredible knowledge of lines, health, etc., and she cannot one day decree that The Princess Cheeseface shall be bred whether I like it or not). So it just depends...she is from late-maturing lines and I don't really see the point in having a dog evaluated in conformation before they are mature anyway so haven't stepped in the breed ring just yet. Not to mention getting an objective certification of field aptitude, which is far more important. Already know she's athletic and biddable, and temperamentally very much so a working Flat-Coat.

Getting the OFA X-rays done really had little to do with anything on the "will she be bred" score (not saying that's what you meant, but just to clarify). She would have been done even if she were spayed, for my knowledge and to give her breeders information on the dogs they are breeding. Case in point: both Kim and Webster, spayed/castrated dogs of indeterminate origins, have also had their hips and elbows X-rayed and graded by OFA. In addition to dog sports we are just very active in general and the info was important for me to know in terms of risk management.

Ahh. I completely understand the OFA stuff. I would like to have Enzo and Ozzy done for hips and elbows, and I would like to have Ozzy's knees checked, because he's more upright in the knee that I'd like, and he does some hard hitting disc dog and retrieving stuff, as well as Schutzhund intermittently.

I think Mira is the best looking Flat coat I've seen :p Though, I haven't seen many, so I may be somewhat biased, and I keep saying I don't want another retriever until Enzo passes (thirty years from now :p) And I feel like an airhead around keeps the more serious dogs from taking themselves entirely too serious. :p
