Staying at a friend's house. Dogs are crated in car overnight about 20 yards from my room, with a patio door leading out onto the deck next to my car.

Laying in bed starting to fall asleep, and Patton starts firing off. I get up, walk to the door and look out. See a weird blinking light. Think it's his ecollar at first, but I haven't hit any buttons. Starts moving around my car. Someone with a flashlight! At midnight!

I went to grab my keys (to hit buttons on the fob) and his ecollar remote, because the remote controls the lights on his collar and I wanted to light the car up and scare whoever it was. Walked back to the door and they were running through the neighbor's yard.

Ugh. Terrifying. Now I can't sleep.

Omg!!! That's terrifying! I hope everything is okay this morning

I brought Ru to Brisbane's CAT and nearly everyone we've encountered has commented on his tininess and how they can't wait to see him run. I keep explaining that he's just along for the ride and doesn't course. A lady with a Briard nodded sagely and added "Ah yes, he's ornamental."

Yes. Yes he is.

I'm almost afraid to put this in writing lest I curse myself, but I think Toast has finally had some kind of developmental brain breakthrough along the lines of "heyyyyy, I CAN think before reacting when I'm excited and even though I'm excited to see you I don't have to spazz around jumping and clacking."

I need a minute to brag on Gambit.
It was that time of year again. The dreaded annual. Gambit hates it, and his coyote seems to always come out.

This year, he did great! He is 33lbs, up from a skeletal 30.2 just a few months ago. This is officially the heaviest he's ever been. I would like to see him hit 35, but I'm happy with where he is at.

His teeth look great, no need for a dental.

Best of all, the blood draw was drama-free! Last year it took 10 sticks and 4 techs to get enough blood. Not blaming techs, he has terrible veins and tenses up so badly that he is very hard to draw from. This time it took two sticks (would have been one but he jerked suddenly) and it was over.

On a related note, we have two new people working in the kennel. Any change is very hard for Gambit, especially when it involves strangers. Two at once is devastating.

In the past, it has taken up to two weeks of glaring, barking and running away for him to accept a new person, not to mention the occasional gape and hiss.

He accepted both new people on their very first day. They were each able to pet him and scratch his chest. He wasn't 100% sure, but he tried so very hard.

Everyone keeps telling me that Gambit will eventually plateau and be unable to move forward behaviorally. That his coyote genes and feral start to life will eventually catch up to him. I"m not saying that it won't happen, but he's blown so far past what anyone led me to believe he would be capable of. He will never be normal, but most days he's almost like a regular dog.

God I love that Coy Boy.

Go Gambit!

Something is wrong with Harlow. She typically spends every waking second doting on DH. The past week she has been all over snuggling with me any chance she gets. Sooo not like her.

Also Tulsa is in heat and being so dramatic.

Person who complains about the late start time to anyone who will stand still long enough? Check.

Person with more than three dogs of the same unusual breed? Check.

Person shouting repeated worthless commands at an oblivious dog named Bella? Check.

Person with mini poodles? Check.

Person with absolutely stunning purebred dogs that epically fail at something they were bred to do? Bingo!

I want to take Glitch tubing next week, so I bought him a life jacket. Because of his odd little proportions, he fits best in an Outward Hound medium tightened all the way down. It's tight enough to be safe, but holy crap does he look funny.

I feel like a mean mother, but every time I see him walk by in it, I just keep imagining the little kid from A Christmas Story. "I can't put down my arms! I can't put down my arms!"

Playing tug with Toast and he got a little exuberant. And by that I mean that he launched so hard that he overshot enough to collide with me and grab a bit of nipple along with the tug.

So yea, that screaming you all heard a little while ago and wondered where it came from? That was me. No matter where you live, that was me.

Anybody want a teenage malinois?

Have you ever gone tubing with him before?

I went tubing with Leo last year. I had one of those double tubes, where there are two separate circles, and figured I would be in one while he was in the other.

Nope.

He felt pretty insecure about the whole thing and insisted on being on my lap the entire time. He absolutely refused to stay in "his side". It was ok, but three hours of having a 40 pound dog in your lap scratching up your legs isn't the greatest.

He's never going tubing again :rofl1: Hopefully your trip goes better

Spent the weekend with my husband's aunt so we could go to a CAT 5+ hours away. Love the aunt's elderly westie and young pit bull, but I feel really bad for her. Her daughter is a major pit bull advocate of the "pit bulls are perfect for everyone! Everyone should adopt a pit bull!" variety. They visited half a dozen shelters and picked the smallest, calmest pit bull type dog, who is also somewhat noise sensitive and a bit reactive and at the age of 18 months beginning to develop dog aggression.

She's a really lovely wonderful dog, but just too much dog for them. They're trying hard, have taken her to multiple trainers, but they're feeling overwhelmed by the intensity. They thought they were getting a normal dog that wouldn't be much different from their westie and the spaniel mix and border collie mix they had previously.

Said daughter's two year old pit bull has also developed major dog aggression, and she is discovering that it's not all in how you raise them. She wanted a go anywhere, do anything, sidewalk cafe, dog park kind of dog so she adopted a pit bull puppy. She was also a huge Dog Whisperer fan. Watching her transform into an advocate for positive training and develop a more realistic understanding of her favorite breed has been very interesting. I still feel bad for her mom though.

One of my foster puppies got adopted on Saturday by Amy Roloff on Little People Big World. Never watched the show before, and I was informed of who she was by an excited volunteer. But as long as she gives my baby a good home, I don't care who she is.

His sister got adopted too, but it wasn't as exciting.

I'll miss the little freaks, but am glad they got homes.

That's cool!! I was excited when one of mine went to a local tv anchor! My cousin who went out to the meet and greet kept saying they need a nicer dog! They loved it, and that's all I cared!

She put a picture of him on her fanpage. Probably will eventually see them on their show, as they've always been very into their dogs. :)

Awww... Poor little dude. It is stressful when they are hurt or ill. Just remember it will pass. You will have a normal happy little dog again when he is healed.

How long does the vet think before he is healed enough to not need a cast?
He does get around good for having a big ol' cast taking up his thin little leg, but just no fun not being able to do as much with him. He still tries to play like usual though, just have to keep him in check. :p

The vet thinks at least 8 weeks still. On his last x-ray, it was just starting to try to reconnect and heal - so it'll be a ways still.

That's pretty cool! I'll probably get to see him grow, which hasn't happened for many of my puppies. And I was so happy that someone who seemed to care about her dogs so much and know a fair amount about them adopted him. He's going to have a good life.
