So, it takes Roxie about 3 or 4 hours to go into a claustrophobic panic in her crate.

But before that, she's chill with (eager to, even) hanging in her crate during bad weather. She's a very interesting dog when it comes to confinement.

Thank the gods for ex-pens and tie-outs, lol.

Ok, it has to be something I'm saying. My search for tinydog for 2016 is still fruitless. Out of all the breeders I've reached out to, only two got back to me, essentially saying their dogs would not be a good fit.

So I reached out to Chi rescue - they told me to go get a JRT instead. Asdfghuewdyugvirfw.

How come the small/active/sociable combo is so impossible to find in Chi? I have been really set on the breed but am wondering if I'm going to have to start looking at something else since the universe does not seem to want me to have a Chihuahua.

Crazy! I fostered that dog two years ago. Five pounds, very nicely put together, would have been super at agility, loved people in general and kids in particular. Went to a family that takes her running every day and hiking every weekend. I've met a few agility chihuahuas too! Maybe reach out to the teacup agility community?

Yeah, and my friend has the exact chihuahua I'm looking for as well! I know they're out there.

That's what I think I'll need to do. I don't even know where to start though. I'm part of a flyball team and have put out feelers, but most little dogs at flyball tournies are rescues or sport mixes that might be a little more dog than I want. I guess just going to agility trials or other local dog shows/events and asking around. I'll see if there are any FB groups for local dog sport folk.

So, I enjoy having a small dog way more than I thought I would.

Soooo easy. I mean, there are things I'm not used to that you don't really get with the bigger dogs but, seriously, adding this puppy has been a breeze and I really am enjoying his size way more than I thought I would.

Straw, I hope you find your Chi! I was kidding earlier :p

Seriously, I don't know why you aren't able to find one. I've seen so many that would fit. But, I will say when I was looking into Crested's it amazed me how many owners do nothing with their dogs, including many breeders. Because of that, they don't know what their dogs are capable of.

Pooooor Cajun. She got her jaw caught in the car window yesterday when I was rolling it up. Which resulted in this -

Thank God I work where I do so I can just text a couple people and say heeeyyyy my dog is having a tooth extracted tomorrow, make sure to not schedule any appointments :p So that resulted in the loss of this -

She was totally fine after the incident and didn't seem painful at all (although I have to imagine there was pain), but my mom was like WHERE CAN I GO RIGHT NOW ON A SUNDAY TO HAVE THIS REMOVED. I just wanna make sure she's all set for her first disc comp this weekend lol.

She is the saddest, whiniest dog after anesthesia. She also got into a bag of Fruit Loops last night with Juno, and has shamrock green diarrhea in addition to the mouth stuff.

Yeesh. I just realized your problem, you live in Canada. Down here in the desert it doesn't get cold enough in the winter to kill off the tiny things like fleas, mosquitoes, and chihuahuas. Our shelters are all busting at the seams with chihuahuas. They often outnumber the pit bulls. They literally make up half the population at many Los Angeles municipal shelters.

Exporting chihuahuas has become part of the rescue effort. Every year one of my local rescues packs 50+ of them into an RV and drives them to Montana where they all get adopted in less than a week. I used to work with a rescue in New York, they would pick out the dogs via Pet Harbor, I would go down and pull them, vet them, crate train them, and put them on a plane in a week or two. People out there apparently had a tough time finding them in shelters and would happily pay $300+ to cover shelter and airline fees for their rescued chihuahuas.

YIKES poor Cajun. :( Good thing you have quick access to a surgeon at work. Hope she's all healed up and ready to chomp discs again soon!

Thanks Linds, I'm sure I will find something, even if it takes another 5739 years.

Ugh, Leo has been an angel completely loose in the house for an entire year.

Today, he pulled a bag of groceries that didn't get put away from the table and shredded and ate an entire box of graham crackers and bag of Hawaiian bread.

At least, if he is going to overindulge on human food, he grabbed pretty safe stuff.

He is now moping in his crate because I scolded him.

Someone came up to me today and asked if Fable was a fox.

I *kind of* get it when people ask if she's a dingo. But a fox? Really?

Cuz all the boy dogs think she's such a foxy lady? Lol.
Lol could be. Although she would definitely tell the boy dogs to **** off if they seemed to interested in her.

This guy was totally intrigued by her tail. He thought it was very "fox-like". It was actually pretty funny.

So I scheduled Wilson's neuter for July 15th. I didn't want to deal with any sort of potential DA or anything like that popping up and he will be almost 13 months old at that point and he hasn't grown in a while so I thought it'd be fine.

Except now I'm second guessing my decision. He's really fine with other dogs, in fact better than Sam who was neutered at six months old. He listens well. I've never had him around an in-heat female so I don't know how he'd behave but obviously that's just a matter of controlling the situation. My biggest reason for wanting to get him neutered is because he licks pee and chatters his teeth and it drives me nuts. But he's been getting so much better with his anxiety issues and I'm worried that neutering him will set us back and make him super nervy again. I really just want to get him neutered for convenience but I could handle an intact male dog without any issues I'm pretty sure.

How likely is it that neutering him is going to make his anxiety issues get worse again? He still has a bit of that stranger danger thing going on but not to the point where I see a problem. He doesn't live in terror of everything anymore it's more just him being wary of everything.

Fwiw, Recon had finally come into himself and had tons of drive and confidence right before I nuetered him. Put him right back at square one where he's never advanced from. I wish I could have kept him intact, but it was in the purchase contract to neuter.

I would have to get my books out again to be sure but I believe hormonal development is still going on until the 15-18 month range at least, though of course individual dogs will vary. Payton went through his teenage jerkface stage at a year and a half so it makes sense from my experiences that hormones are still at play quite strongly on behaviour at that point.
Personally I would wait. The chattering is annoying but it stops after a moment in time. Once the testicles and hormones associated with them are gone, they are gone forever.
