The dog musing/vent thread

I ate an atypical snack because I am going out and eating dinner very late today.
Leo however believes that I have just eaten dinner and that it is therefore time for me to feed him dinner, based on our usual routine. He will NOT leave me alone, but I am stubborn and don't want to feed him over an hour early just because he is confused. So we are locked in a battle of wills.
Please tell me I am not crazy for fighting with my dog :rofl1:

Nope. Ever since it started getting darker, Roxie's been trying to trick me into feeding her earlier. She gets fed supper at 7pm, sometimes a little later but never earlier.
She comes up to me, gives me a nose-poke, and those wannabe Beagle eyes. Once I look at her and that tail starts up its not long till the grumblies start, lol.
And I'm just like, "oh, it's 7 already?!"
*looks at clock*
Darn dog. Then I ask her what she wants and instead of anything else, she does the food dance. So I have to say sorry, it's not 7 yet. You still have a few hours left.

I keep Fable on her toes by feeding her at different times every day. She eats breakfast anywhere between 6 and 9 and dinner anywhere between 5 and 7. She eats whenever I feel like feeding her, and that is what she is used to. She never knows when she is going to eat, so there is no use in begging for her food. I have finally outsmarted my dog!

I feed mine whenever I feel like it, usually in the afternoon or evening, and they get all different foods in all different ways so they can never anticipate dinnertime. Will it be kibbles in food toys? Frozen kongs in crates? Freeze dried something-or-other? Was that training session dinner? How about that bone?
Brisbane does get needy in the late evening if he hasn't been fed, but that's mostly just requesting petting and maybe ringing the potty bells if he really hasn't had anything all day, so I figure it's actual hunger rather than anticipation.

Sherman has adapted to his food routine pretty quickly. He knows sometime in the morning he gets his breakfast, sometime in the afternoon he gets is dinner, and right before bed he gets his peanut butter filled marrow bone.
I'm not really sure what times he thinks are the appropriate times, but when he starts running to his crate whenever I walk into a certain area of the house I just go with it and feed him. LOL

Is 4 smallish dogs too many dogs? I keep really considering adding another 20ish lb dog in 2016/2017... It just sounds like a lot. Like that would be crazy dog lady territory. But I think I'll want another active/agility dog by then. GAH. Decisions.
Of course assuming my current 3 are still around. Mia and Summer will be REALLY low key by then more than likely. 4 would not be permanent, just for the interim where Mia and Summer are old(er).

You know, my dog(s, although we all know who I'm mostly talking about here) can be attention-seeking a-holes, but this morning I really, really needed to concentrate on getting some work done and after a single stern "go lay down" they all went off to lay down and have been quiet ever since. I don't know if I should be grateful or terrified that they can apparently tell the difference between me goofing off on the internet vs. doing srs work on the laptop, but I'll take it.
