I was hiking with Briz, Ru, and our foster chihuahua (who loved kids) when we were set upon by an entire herd of preschoolers. I could see their parents way down the trail and behind that there was a someone with an off leash Labrador running amuck (likely to cause a problem if it runs up to us). The kids saw my dogs and stamped over while shouting "Can I pet your dog!? Can I pet your dog?!"

I told them no, and the children had absolutely no idea what to do next. I guess nobody ever told them no before? A couple of them tried asking again and the other four asked "why?", but at least they all ground to a halt at a safe distance. Eventually the parents caught up and hauled them down the trail, and the guy behind them leashed his dog so I didn't have to deal with a dog fight in the middle of half a dozen four-year-olds.

It's raining, really actually raining, for the first time in nine months. The dogs are full of nope. I kind of hoped Uly might be less weather averse, but he took one look out the front door and retreated. I might have to dress them in rain slickers and drag them each around the block if I want them to pee, they won't go outside willingly. The sky is falling. Nope nope nope.

re: kid rushing dog, I'd probably put dog on my head? No idea. Feist can be a bit intimidated by the loud or rushy up kind of kid, so in general I say they can pet her if she comes over to them but otherwise leave her be. Or if we're at the park, I let them throw discs for her. :)

I gathered up a few Roxie-safe leftover scraps (just bits from plates since I was loading the dishwasher) to give to Roxie since she was behaving so well in her ex-pen today, and hadn't whined/barked for over an hour.

I go downstairs, and find her pen (it's two ex-pens combined) moved all over the place, her outside of it.

So much for that idea.

Simi has had very few interactions with kids, just because so many of her interactions with adults made me nervous. But she recently had some time with some younger boys and they threw a ball for her and she loved them.

Hehe. Fable wants to move down to California with you guys. We live in Portland, so I am always telling her she just has to get used to the rain. She is originally from SoCal, and she was transported up here by START for a local rescue. She despises the rain with all her heart, and I have to drag her outside to go for walks (although once we get going she doesn't mind as much).

So in a list of bad decisions made by me, right now I would put training Hank in the living room without putting on pants up there. My thoughts were 'I'm in boxers so I don't need pants' I of course wasn't going to wear my work slacks and I wasn't going anywhere tonight.

Yeah...

Bad idea.

I now have a 10" gash down my thigh from Hank kicking me with his back legs while jumping. Apparently jumping at me and kicking me is a thing. He's even done it to TWO of my friends without warning. Oh hi, how are you? WHABAM!!!! I'm gonna fly at your face and kick you. Only the first er... 5-6" were bleeding so that's good, right?

So I've been snagged by Tulsa teeth several times a week for the past several months.

Today marked a new day. She missed a toy and dragged her tooth down the space where my nail and skin meet. I now have a large flap. Oh cattle dog.

I'm sure it was a hilarious sight, because I instantly ran to get my husband holding my finger yelling for him to get me something to cover it so I wouldn't pass out. I wouldn't last long in a dire medical situation. Lol!

In other news, Story is visiting for the week! And I scored 2 free crates!! One of the new ones is PERFECTION for our impulse control class. :D

that is strange because every ACD I have known, ever loves the water ... any kind of water (except baths LOL) even the rain. Josefina will actually PLAY OUT in the rain, but she is a derp and isnt the norm LOL.

Yay cattledog war wounds! Brisbane left many marks when he was younger, he's mellowed out quite a bit...no actually it's just the Prozac. I don't do blood either, I have that fainting disorder where blood makes me keel over so I am racing the clock anytime I have to deal with an injury on anyone. When the cat took the tip off Ru's ear I ended up laying on the couch with my feet up and holding his ear against his head for three hours while my husband mopped the blood off the ceiling.

No sign of the missing Kong top yet, but the latest adventure in inadvertently trying to kill my dogs involves a chewed power cord and two days' worth of discussion on whether or not there was a burny smell in the living room. Something went pop on Sunday while I was at work, sending Ulysses and the retarded cat bolting. I just followed a faint crackling sound and found a fan cord with a bite mark and a nice black spot sizzling away. Jury's still out on who did it, Uly hasn't chewed anything but Kongs and the cat is known to gnaw...

Southern California dogs rarely get the opportunity to experience rain in their formative months, so it is often something scary and foreign. Rain tends to happen at night, and we mostly only get scattered showers. Today was the first day in nine months that it rained long enough that I had to make them go out and potty in it. We had three days in March with sustained rain, today, and may not get any more until January or even longer.

It's tough to convince them that water falling out of the sky is ok when it only happens four days out of the year.

Hank pooped in my floor for the first time ever.

What did I do? I was instantly happy because it was a normal poop! In 2 months of having him he's had terrible poops that are huge, yellow, and mushy. This was 100% normal.

So what worked? Purina. I've tried tons of 'premium foods' but purina is the only thing working. I'd noticed when I first got him he did better for the couple days he was on purina sport but we ran out.
